Okay, so the main reason I want a PS3 now is to watch MLB on it. I want to get one cheap, so a broken one should do. My question, though, is what level of "broken-ness" will still allow me to access the online watching? If a PS3 can't read discs, will that work for my purposes?

So, I would appreciate answers in this thread to my question, and also please PM (or post) if you have a broken PS3.

Thanks.

If it gets the YLOD, it won't start up and then you're stuck with a brick until you fix it or send it out to get fixed. If the blu-ray disc drive just doesn't read discs, then your system will still power on properly.

Okay, thanks. Sorry to be dumb about this, but if it powers up properly, then I can use it to go to the PSN store and watch MLB.TV (provided I pay MLB and link the sub)?

I had a PS3 that wouldn't spool up any discs that were put in the drive, but everything else was fine. Could log onto PSN and play downloadable games/demos. The MLB.TV App should work even if the drive doesn't.

I would try craigslist if I were you. Make your own ad and look at others... I see plenty of broken ps3's and 360's on there for cheap. Won't hav to pay for shipping either :D
