Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Complete Book 1 Collector's Edition

$26.99 @ Amazon

Pre-order, ships on June 22nd. Eligible for Free Super Saver Shipping.

Pretty nice discount of 52% off the list price. It's actually cheaper than the non-Collector's Edition of Book 1.

Seem like a nice collector's version of Avatar Book 1, although I really know nothing about the series myself.

Update: As of 7/23, Amazon has now dropped the price by $7 to $20.

Fantastic series. I absolutely loved it. For adults, the humor is deep enough to surprise. For children, the values taught are solid and it even impresses upon the need to use reason over emotion. Sokka and Kitara are both role models that children can relate to. I'm buying a set for my soon-to-be-born daughter to watch when she's old enough :p

I can't decide whether to pick this up now, or maybe hold out in the hopes that they will release a Blu-ray version sometime down the road. This is one series I'd love if they re-released in widescreen HD on blu.

I've been catching up on this amazing series (currently on Book 3) and would love to pick this up. But seeing as I've been watching all of episodes recently, I'm wondering if it would be better to wait for a Blu-ray version to release in the future. Possibly by the time "The Last Airbender" movie releases on DVD and BD?

This show was never animated in HD, making a Blu-ray release completely pointless. It would have to be entirely remastered, which isn't going to happen.

Well if the movie(s) do well there might be a remastering done anyway. I'm not sure if I can wait for that though.

In case anyone wonders the whole series is up on Netflix Instant right now.

There are plenty of other, more popular animated shows that haven't been remastered in HD (Has *any* American animated series ever been remastered in HD, for that matter?), so there is absolutely *zero* reason to think that this one will be. It's not going to happen because it's not worth Nickelodeon's time or money to do so, regardless of how awesome Avatar is.

This is great, Avatar is one of my favorite animated shows, and as an casual anime fan I have to admit its a lot more entertaining than most of the anime out there. I've been waiting for a good time and price to finally collect the whole series. I think this is a great time to start. I was actually holding out for a Blu-Ray release but considering what the others have said I think I'll just bite on the CE DVD. Thanks OP.

Edit: Here's a better picture of the dvd set

Hmmm, I wanna get an opinion from the members here. I've been wanting to catch up on this show for the past few months, but just never have. I want to get the DVDs for the show. This set seems nice, but the thing is, I've already seen all of Book 1, I haven't seen any of 2 or 3 though. But if I get the series on DVD, I want to start from the beginning again. So should I wait it out for this set, or just get the current set that's out?

Just FYI because I think I remember someone looking for book 1 cheap, I saw it at walmart for 25. About the same as this collectors edition after tax, but for those that cant wait...

Ah, that would make sense.

Well, maybe I'll wait until after the first movie comes out for any particular deals for this CE. I'm currently enjoying the fact that Book 3 on Netflix is free anyways.

Also, was anyone bothered that they changed the voice actor for Uncle Iroh in Book 3? Loved that they had Mako voice his character in the previous Books, but this Greg Baldwin guy just doesn't pull it off as well. Other than that, it's still a fantastic series.

man i remember getting Season 1 on a price mistake thx to a BBy ad..PM'd to Circuit City (RIP) and got it for $3.50. Took me an entire year to watch it since I just love cheap dvds..but when I did finally sit down HOLY CRAP it was amazing...finished it in 2 sittings. Bought every release at full price after that. Don't regret it one bit. This show is absolutely phenomenal and I highly recommend it to any/everyone. This is NOT some lame attempt to clone anime..i promise it is a worthwhile series that should not be missed.

Ironically enough I'm re-watching it with my best friend. And LOL at the Beach episode...most awesome filler episode EVER! (save for the Outlaw Star Hot Springs Episode)

Is it still 25 at walmart?
Sadly, they didn't really have a choice, as Mako died during production.
Oh wow, I didn't even recall him passing away. He was truly THE Uncle Iroh.

Already ordered this in April: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=258359

Avatar is so awesome, and any age group can enjoy it. I also purchased the "Avatar: The Last Airbender (The Art of the Animated Series)" and received it a week ago: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1595825045/ ($23). The book is bigger then other art books I've purchased (by bigger I'm talking about widthxheight, and for comparison it's a bit bigger than a Capcom art book or a Marvel Ominubs), it's hardcover, and loaded with artwork and notes spanning the entire series. I've shown it to everyone in my family (since they all love Avatar too) and they also enjoyed it. I highly recommend it for fans of the series.

they even dedicated the "Stories of Basing-Say (Sp?)" episode to him

This.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Amazing series, that collector's book 1 is making it very hard not to spend money. Oh Amazon, you always do this to me.

EDIT: Nevermind, preordered. :p

I picked up the complete book 1 set a few years ago for about $7 new. Best Buy had the wrong price in their ad and I got Circuit City to price match it. Still haven't watched it yet.

Loved everything but the ending (which I'm sure if I elaborated on would take this thread way off the rails in spoiler tags), think I'll have to bite on this despite having just ordered some anime the other day. At least my wallet should have a fair amount of time before the next collector's set right?

I guess my response to this might be a spoiler as well. I don't know if you disliked the ending for the same reason that I did, but I though the end was where being on Nickelodeon and being safe for kids hurt the show the most.

This is where my $20 giftcard from RDR is going then. A truly great series and possibly the best things Nickelodeon has ever aired (aside from Invader Zim).

I just got my copy from amazon today. Is anybody else a little disappointed with the way they've handled the CE? It's basically the same old set housed in a simple cardboard box shaped like a book - it's pretty underwhelming. Also the book they advertised is really just a booklet preview of the hardcover artbook they're selling separately. I haven't viewed the bonus disc so I hope that's good. Otherwise it's definitely not worth double dipping if you already have the original sets (since they're essentially selling the same exact thing again). Unless this CE is really limited XD

I felt the same way. The little booklet it comes with is just an excerpt from the larger Avatar art book which I already own (the full art book is awesome... if you're a fan of the series you should look into getting it). The bonus dvd comes in a crappy paper sleeve. I haven't watched it yet, but I doubt it was worth double dipping. The casing for the set is pretty cool, but it just houses the same season 1 box set inside.

If you don't have season 1 on dvd, get the ce set.
If you already have season 1, skip the ce.

yeah the packaging looks nice but was kinda disappointed for it to have the old version packed inside. The one good thing tho... I didn't own any of the seasons yet so I'm not upset but would have liked it to have better packaging for a collector's edition.

wondering if they're going to do the same for the other seasons tho.

any talk of the the other sets getting the "special edition" treatment. Would look real nice on the dvd shelf that way

I believe video game credits have to be used on video games

Just finished watching all of it I really enjoyed it since I didn't buy the seasons when they first came out I plan to get the art book looks nice and not sure haven't watched the bonus disc yet.

Saw this at Costco - $24.99

also had regular B2 & B3 for same

As a hearing impaired person, I enjoy watching everything with closed captioning turned on. It disappoints me that the regular single-disc DVDs and the collector's set do not offer closed captions. The regular edition complete sets do but nothing else.

if you're talking about the CE that was just released... it's the same set as the regular edition complete set. they just took a book shaped outer box and slapped a small booklet... a bonus disc in a sleeve... and the old box set still in the old box into it.

It's one of the most disappointing cash ins i've ever seen. I fell in love with this series after the Best Buy glitch scored me season 1 for 8 bucks (thanks CAG!).

I would gladly double dip for a high quality CE but literally repackaging the original is just crap.
So you guys are saying the Collector's Edition simply has a nice outside box, but when you open it, the regular edition box is inside?
Your hearing problem doesn't explain the lack of reading comprehension.

Sooo...that's a yes? :whistle2:s

Lol, that was pretty good. Thank you soooo much for the clarification. I'm not sure if I'll get the Collector's Edition or not. At the moment, it's about the same cost as the regular edition on Amazon.

I just plowed through the season in preparation for the movie, which will most likely suck balls compared to.

So any word on the CE for Book 2? Or are we going to have to wait for the second movies release?

Yeah the movie has been getting bad reviews, which is a shame since the series had so much potential to be a epic trilogy.

I'm sure they'll release a CE book 2, I just hope it doesn't take too long as when and if they release the airbender sequel.

*thread revival powers activate*

(saw this posted at SD) This set is currently at $20 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Avatar-Last-Airbender-Complete-Collectors/dp/B003DT1950/

To summarize what's been posted in this thread:
-If you already own Avatar TLA S1, don't waste money on this ce set as it is simply a boxing of the old S1 set with an added bts dvd.
-If you don't already own Avatar TLA S1, this is the set to get as it is well priced.

20 bucks for this set sounds like a sweet deal, although I wonder if Nickelodeon will do the same for the other two "Books". It would stick out if I buy one season which is a collector's edition while the rest are just regular.
It would stick out if I buy one season which is a collector's edition while the rest are just regular.
Don't worry about that... this ce set literally has the regular edition box inside.

So what do I do with the collector's box itself? Isn't it kind of a collector's "sin" to discard it? It IS kind of a waste to have it made if it only holds the slipcase for the bonus disc (which I could just put inside the dvd set) and an artbook sampler, which BTW I might throw out if the full book is good enough for a purchase.

If you want to buy the rest of the seasons but they don't release ce's for them (I haven't heard any news) then you can always ditch the ce box. The ce box looks kinda cool (it resembles a book) but it merely houses the standard box, mini art book and bonus disc sleeve.

I have the full art book and it is worth getting. I have no use for the tiny sample included in the ce set.

Guess I might have to jump the gun in this purchase (although I wonder if it was a good idea in hindsight to sell my old season set due to this edition). I also might have to wait a while of any news on later collector's editions, and if not, oh well.
