Steam - Numen: Contest of Heroes $2

Hmmm always up for a Diablo style game and $2 is a sweet spot for something like this. Just wish there were reviews to give SOME indication of quality. Regardless for $2 I will probably bite.

At $2 I'm going to pick it up but you could always try the demo if you wanted to check it out before purchase.

Checked the steam forums and the general consesus seems to be around 7/10. People seemed to feel that the game had some good concepts, it just did not always implement them as well as it could. The game also has a few bugs to it including one that if it does show up can stop you from progressing in the game(it relates to a main quest). Sadly too the developer has commented that while they will try and fix bugs, they do not intend to support the game further then that since it has not been profitable.

Regardless I think I will bite. A few people said they bought it at $7.50 and were pleased, so for $2 what the hell.

Numen is a great game. Have played it long time ago and was looking at it again during the Summer sale but could not justify it then with all backlog I had at the time. Now, for only $2 this is a complete no-brainer. If you have any passion for hack-and-slash RPGs in the vein of Diablo, Dungeon Siege or Torchlight, this game would fit right in.

Speaking of which, when would Steam finally release Dungeon Siege I and II with all the expansions?

hmmm well I was going to say that MS owns DS, but I guess Square Enix now owns the rights to the series. No clue if they own the first two games or not, could be complicated licensing rights which delays/makes it never happen.

I almost bit on this at $7.50 during the Summer Sale, but between not finding credible reviews and being on a tight budget, I had to pass. Glad I did.

...ok, the budget wasn't that tight since I spent nearly $300 on the summer sale, but I wanted to get things I knew were good, and, uh...

Ok to update for those on the fence I played for an hour or two yesterday and for $2 I say give it a shot. I have not encountered any bugs yet, but I can see some of the minor annoying issues spoke of. For instance there is no mini map I can find immediately, the tutorials are very thin, bringing up your inventory does not also bring up your character equipment doll and it is not always obvious where you are getting quests from or where to go for them. As I said lots of small stuff immediatly noticable, but none of it so bad that for $2 you are not still getting a very good bargain.

And to EastX - Yes the combat style is more MMO then Diablo 2(which is another negative, but not enough to make you stop playing). You click an enemy and your character starts auto attacking it, to move around you use aswd or num keys, to use special attacks you click the top number/hot buttons.

Thank you for the impressions.

I'm tempted by the price, but held back by the backlog of similar games already on my PC (Sacred 2, Torchlight, Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity, Titan Quest, Titan Quest expansion, Dungeon Siege II, etc.).

One more small fast complaint is that when you find new equipment you have to mouse over it and wait a second or two to see if its a magical/rare item. It does not just glow green or some other color like in most other MMOs. It also does not show if it is stronger then your current equipment either, you must go in to your inventory, look at it, open your equipment screen and then mouse over and compare the two.

Small complaint, but the game has a bunch of the small complaints that keep it as a worthy $2-$5 purchase but much more and id have been annoyed.

Got this in a past sale. it gets better once your kid character grows up.. But it still is a really rough somewhat boring game. It kinda feels like a single player mmo, which is fine for most things. but there's just so much walking and not as much clear direction on what/how do do things.

There might be payoff further in but I can't say myself.

I still haven't beaten Torchlight and never started Titan Quest. 2 bucks is a great deal, but if it has problems and it's no longer going to be supported, I'll save the money for Monday and grab Dog Fight instead.
Feels more like an off-line WoW-clone than a Diablo-clone to me. Either way, it's well worth the $2.
Yes and no. Thing is that the way it controls and looks is closer to WoW, but since you do not explore much, just kill in a never ending sequence that slowly moves you forward, and since it has the loot system it does that is more Diablo. Either way though I can see it feeling like both and either way for $2 its a solid purchase.

I never finished Torchlight nor Titan Quest + Immortal Throne - ARPG games which I do really like.
Just, as usual, I buy newer and/or other stuff - and that stuff gets in the way.
