Code 80048821-can't log in to Games for Windows Live

Wolfpup

CAGiversary!
Ugh. What a disaster. I find out Steam's backup thing doesn't actually work (here's the entire game locally, hey, I know, I'll redownload the entire thing for the heck of it!)

But this... I've been logged in to Games for Windows Live on my PC before, though not since reinstalling 7 on a new hard drive, and not with this version of the client.

My Xbox connects fine, but I just get a 80048821 error when trying to log in on my PC, saying the password isn't right...except it's fine, and I can even log in my browser.

I tried forwarding some ports that were suggested, disabling Windows and my router's firewall, turning on Universal Plug and Play...it's just not working...I feel like they're just breaking this intentionally or something.

Anyone have any other ideas? I was hoping to get the points for Halo 2 on my profile. On top of everything else, Halo 2 has activation despite the box saying nothing about it whatsoever.

Guess I'm giving up and hoping I can do a local profile for the game, so I can at least play it.

Woooow. One of the help pages linked to from the brand new version of Games for Windows Live is a dead link

Yeaaaah, this is really professional. So weird how Microsoft treats their main platform!

And-I'm not kidding-I just got an email from Xbox.com going on about some rewards program. Click the link and it goes to:

"Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Server at rewards.xbox.com Port 80"

on a white screen

Yeah, I am facing the same problem. I can't play Fable 3 because of it. Tell me if you ever figure it out.

I had that problem when I installed a couple games. Turns out the problem was special characters (exclamation point, parenthesis, etc.) in my password. I had to change my password, install the games then change the password back. Of course I also had to use a different password than I used before.

I had this error, and it was not because my password was too complicated.  It was because I had two-factor authentication enabled on my Live account, and GFWL doesn't know what to do when it encounters it.  If this is what your problem is, you'll need to create an application password from your LIve account in order to play.

Go to login(dot)live(dot)com, sign in, and click on Security on the left.  Then about halfway down is "App Passwords."  Click on that to generate a password to use with GFWL.

Apparently I'm not allowed to post links because my account is so young, and I hope my post is not seen as an effort to circumvent the restrictions.

I didn't know there were "Apps Passwords". Sounds easier than my solution.
