Xbox LIVE Refer a Friend Promotion

projectionist

CAGiversary!
http://Xbox.com/referafriend

Convince your friends to sign up for a Gold membership and you will be offered MS Points, Arcade Games, or extra Xbox LIVE Gold months. Offer may also be seen on Dashboard.

My offer was 400 points per referral, but it would not let me refer two of my silver friends.

Both have at one point activated a 1-month gold card, but are now silver. That may make them ineligible.

UPDATE: Got an e-mail from Microsoft thanking me for referring my friends even though every gamertag I tried was apparently not eligible. We'll see if they sign up and I get my 400 points per referral. The gamertag rejections may have just been a bug seeing as the site only recently launched.

Best of luck to everyone!

Nice. If you're Family Gold you can't do this because you aren't "Gold". Oops. Or maybe there's some other link I need to follow. That could be it. Will dig around....

Anyone else getting:
One or more of the gamertag you've provided is invalid.

Doesn't matter which gamertag I add I get the same message no matter the browser...

I've gotten that. It was for a gamertag that had a space/underscore as a character.

Program is evidently glitchy.

i got offered the maw and tried to enter 2 different gamertags and each one of them had a different error lol. i got:

One or more of the gamertag you've provided is invalid.
Sorry, this person has asked not to receive any communications from Xbox LIVE.

also i went to the terms and conditions here and it looks like these are the different possible offers you could get:

Offers Available:
A. Get your free member friend to go Gold and you’ll get 400 Microsoft Points and your friend will get 400 Microsoft Points. Tokens to download Points will expire on December 31, 2011. Once downloaded, promotional Points will expire on June 30, 2012;
B. Get your free member friend to go Gold and you’ll get multiplayer arcade game and your friend will get multiplayer arcade game of Sponsor’s choosing;
C. Get your free member friend to go Gold and you’ll get 600 Microsoft Points and your friend will get 600 Microsoft Points. Tokens to download Points will expire on December 31, 2011. Once downloaded, promotional Points will expire on June 30, 2012; or
D. Get your free member friend to try Gold with a promotional token good for 1 month of Gold! BONUS: If your friend redeems the token within 30 days, you will get 200 Microsoft Points. Tokens to download Points will expire on December 31, 2011. Once downloaded, promotional Points will expire on June 30, 2012.

edit: i clicked on the refer a friend a second time and was offered 400 points instead of the maw. interesting.....

Yeah, it is definitely glitchy. It shouldn't be offering me a game I already bought (The Maw). ;)

If I get the 600 points each offer I might refer my son and then sign him up. I'd like to know if him using a 1 month promo code would count, though, or if he has to sign up and pay for it via MS.

Hmmm... I'm thinking that because of this part:
After the friend clicks on the link and follows the instructions to upgrade to an Xbox LIVE Gold membership, the specific offer will be awarded to you and your friend.
it is probably going to require a signup with credit card and all that. No thanks... Plus it says it is open only to those 18 and older - though that may just be for the referrer and not the recipient. But there are definitely too many variables there for me to even want to risk one of my valuable 1-month codes unless I'm sure I'll get the reward in return.

Because otherwise he doesn't need the gold membership just yet...
Waiting for the 200 MPs per XBL Gold 1-Month trial offer...
still waiting.

figured they'd change the offers like they stated in their official rules, but apparently not :bomb:

So when you refer someone, what price is that person offered? Is this a full-price Gold subscription we're talking about? Or is it the 1 Month for $1 Deal, or something like that?

I'm getting either of these error messages:
"Sorry, this person has asked not to receive any communications from Xbox LIVE."
or
"One or more of the gamertag you've provided is invalid."

Does anyone have the same problem? I do I fix this?

The person being sent the refer needs to accept communications via e-mail from XBL.
The person being sent the refer needs to accept communications via e-mail from XBL.
Yeah, but what about "One or more of the gamertag you've provided is invalid."?
The gamertag has no spaces, and I already added it as a friend.
Gamertag currently has Silver membership.

Does this promotion still work if the gamertag was previously Gold?

Um. If your sure it's completely correct, I believe I read something about the membership having to have to be signed up with via a credit card and for a 12-month recurring membership. Maybe if he was previously gold due to pre-paid cards...

Idk man, it's Microsoft giving away free shit do you expect it to be easy?

If the gamertag receives the referral email, does he/she also have to pay for Gold with a credit card, or can the person use a prepaid code? Is there also a membership length requirement (for example, minimum 12 months)?
Maybe if he was previously gold due to pre-paid cards...
I guess that is the case.

Pasto Burger:
Sorry, this person has asked not to receive any communications from Xbox LIVE.

All of the gamertags I have tried this past month have had the same errors.
Even though someone sets "Opt In" for communications, it still says, "Sorry, this person has asked not to receive any communications from Xbox LIVE."

I have change the comunication setting for Pasto Burger . . . can you please try again ?
Thank you !

Getting an error that I'm not a Gold Member even though I am. Still have about 9 months left >_>

This promotion is so glitched that I don't think it is worth it for me to even try again.

Plus, according to buckeyeboy69, the referred person has to pay full price by credit card:
no you have to pay full price ($59.99) with a credit card in order to get a measly $5 in points. You'll save much more buying a discounted card at $45 or a dashboard deal.

It's not even showing an offer now LOL
Don't bother. You still have to pay full price for the subscription.

It is better to just buy the points instantly instead of waiting for the friend confirmation and wasting money on the full-price subscription.

Silver member doesn't have to pay anything, and the Gold referrer gets 200 MPs when the silver uses the trial.

It's one of the offers mentioned in the rules, check it out...
