game stop points

I was thinking of getting one of those gamestop cards (even though i dont really by stuff from gamestop). When i was reading about it, i read that you get 500points for free when you sign up. How much off would you get on a game with 500 points?

just wondering

nothing. the points are stupid. you can get $10 off a game once you reach 10000 points. you're better off shopping at kmart. read the kmart thread in the game deals forum for more info.

You don't really get the points to apply straight to a discount, at least not if you're smart. The points are mainly for getting any number of accessories, shirts, posters, digital download items, etc. Though you could easily buy a lot of that stuff on your own along the way for how much you'd have to spend to earn the right to get that stuff with points.

You should read the FAQ to get an idea of what it is:

None of these 'loyalty' programs are really any good. It takes forever for you to get any sort of reward for buying/selling/trading shit with them and then those rewards are usually for garbage anyway.

But if you plan on trading in a LOT of stuff to Gamestop, then you can likely get your money's worth out of the card. Otherwise...don't bother.

Thank you for understanding how loyalty programs work. People seem to go into it expecting a free Xbox with every purchase and then complain when the points don't pay for themselves instantly. It's stuff being given to you for free, it's never going to be anything incredible.

Having said that, though, if you frequent Gamestop you'll definitely get some use out of it. Plus it's free to begin with and you get a B2G1 coupon for singing up, so even if you never go to Gamestop again you got a B2G1 for nothing.

Incidentally, for kicks and giggles I ordered the Red Dead wall panel from my rewards. That's pretty cool, I think. I usually blow my points on $5-off coupons as soon as I get them. I hope it's frame-worthy.

It's silly for anyone to bash GS for the new points program because that is simply an addition to their old program benefits--ALL of which are intact, if I understand correctly.

Since the 10% discount/bonus on used/trades stacks with their other (sometimes insane) offers, it's well worth it to a lot of folks. Hell, they're giving an extra 50% on trades right now. With the card I bumped it up to 60%.

The only guys who have raved about the points are ones who used it to get controllers/accessories for free, at least in my area.

I rarely shop at Gamestop, but if/when I do, I can earn a few freebies, which aren't bad. Yes, of course the points are too high to get anything really good without spending a gazillion dollars, but hey, it's FREE. Got enough for a stupid little plush Pac-Man. Gonna give it to my little girl to play with.
