I'm starting to love Chris Christie more and more. I love that he's not a party guy, he does what he thinks is best. He might be wrong sometimes, but I don't think it's because he's playing political horsecrap games. I admire that. Best line in the clip:

"Sharia law has nothing to do with this at all. It's crazy. It's crazy," Christie said at a press conference Wednesday. "The guy's an American citizen who has been an admitted lawyer to practice in the state of New Jersey, swearing an oath to uphold the laws of New Jersey, the constitution of the state of New Jersey, and the Constitution of the United States of America . . . .This Sharia law business is crap. It's just crazy. And I'm tired of dealing with the crazies."

Yeah the absence of bigotry on a certain issue isn't something to applaud. The presence of it is something to denounce vehemently.

You don't get brownie points for not being a bigoted piece of shit regardless of your party affiliation etc. That's one of the bare minimum qualifications for being a decent human being.

My praise is not in the fact that he's not a bigoted piece of trash, it's that he elects to speak out against those who are. It's much easier to sit there silently and say nothing, but hold his beliefs. To be so bold as to call it "crap" and refer to those insane "Sharia is Invading our Country bigots" as crazies is something we haven't heard from anyone in politics, or at least I haven't. That's what makes it news to me.

What's so hard about saying no to crazy bigots? It's obviously easier then saying no to dessert.

Well, I can kind of get the point he's making.

He's a conservative and one I thought was reasonably popular among tea party types.

So he does risk alienating the far right bigots of his base/the religious right by speaking out on that since those many in those groups are so anti-Islam.

It's not personally hard to speak out against it, but it is "politically hard" in today's conservative party unfortunately.

Good for Christie, but there is something to be said that we're excited at this rare display in the Republican party that stands up to rampant anti-Muslim bigotry.

Everything else about Christie is still appalling.

This.

I also think the fact that he's a Republican governor of a blue state and his approval has been dropping as of late wasn't completely irrelevant to doing this.
