Ugh, Amazon advice needed

So I sell action figures on Amazon, and last night someone bought one. I boxed it up, took it to the post office this morning and sent it out. Not two minutes after leaving the post office, I get an e-mail from the buyer "My son bought this by mistake I do not want it please cancel". So what the hell should I do at this point? Obviously the civil thing to do is cancel the sale, but I've already shipped it out. Should I advise the buyer to file a refund request and send the item back once they receive it? Would the fact that I have this in writing from the buyer protect me in Amazons eyes if the buyer tries to pull any sort of chicanery? Should I just tell the buyer to go pound sand? Never had this happen before, so I don't know what to do...

Call the Post Office and see if it's already been sent on it's way. If it has, get the info for the local Postal Distribution Center and see if they can intercept it.

If no luck, inform the customer that the package has already been shipped, and once it arrives, reject the shipment (make sure they don't open the shipping box) and it should get bounced back to you.

Additionally, on Amazon, you have to accept returns for any reason, within 30 days.

Email them and tell them that you already shipped it, and that once they receive it, send it back. BTW, how much was the item? Sometimes, if it is an expensive item, people like to screw with you...

Yeah, just tell em to return it. Most of the time they won't bother because their lazy. Also, his son shouldn't have his Amazon account password, so that alone sounds like BS to me.

This is definitely the truth. I have had so many return requests that people just end up either forgetting about or figuring it isn't worth the trouble.

I had this happen to me. I told the guy that I would take it back, but he would have to pay return shipping since it wasn't my error. He never sent it back.
