It makes it a hell of a lot easier to navigate blu-ray's.

kind of how I feel about it.

It has all the BR functions mapped to the thing, unlike the DS3. Makes things easier. This is also a universal remote that can recognize and control many tvs

the remotes are a lot easier to use, especially if you dont want to break out the controllers. this remote has the ability to program tv controls which is nice as the previous one required the use of a separate remote for the tv.

It's really ideal for controlling blu-rays, but I would say it's good even if all you do is watch Netflix. One big advantage for me is not wasting my PS3 controller's somewhat short battery life every time I want to watch Netflix and the remote's battery lasts a really long time. It stays synced to your PS3 even after long periods of inactivity whereas my PS3 controller I would have to turn on again after anything ended. It's just more fit for the purpose. For $15 I would say it's worth it.

It's this same price in store as well, saw it earlier. Also noticed that there were 2 different packaged blu ray remotes (official by sony) available to buy in store too.

ordered one, think I read somewhere that it no longer turns on the ps3 if you accidentally push one of the buttons, only the PS button does the trick
thanks OP

True statement.

Also want to mention that the GS PUR coupon for 17,800 points works to get this remote for free. Same SKU as the old remote.

indeed. a friend gave me there remote for the 360 i never used it as i had a controller and the remote is just one more thing that needs batteries or charging,

For any of you fellow PS3 3D display owners (well, I guess more correctly, all 3 of you), this remote will also work with the display, so you don't have to fumble with the controls on the back of the panel.

Oh god thank you, I ordered it thinking it might work with my PS3 3D display. Now I know, thank you and thanks OP for the deal.

Yes, as long as you get this newer model, you're good. The original one won't work for the display, or at least I've never been able to get it to. I need to go ahead and snag one of these while they're cheap.

Well I haven't seen a reason why I actually do need it. I use the ps3 controller just fine to control videos locally or trough netflix. however I haven't played a blu-ray movie at all, so unless theres like 2-3 pages of options I still can't see myself needed yet another remote.

recently bought one of these for my wife and she absolutely loves it one remote for eveything and it isn't always on so does not suck up a charge like the DS3.

I guess those of you who don't think you need it, don't actually watch any movies.

If you watch a ton of movies and Netflix as I do, the PS3 remote is hella worth it. The PS3 controller sucks really bad for navigating. if the remote was actually useless, then they wouldn't sell them. i guess if you like using an awkward clunky controller to navigate movies and shows, and drop your controller all the time and accidentally press the buttons and mess up playback, then skip the remote, if you dislike convenience.

I watch netflix nearly every night from my PS3 while going to bed. Using the ps3 controller with it's insanely easy. Not as good as the wiimote is but still really well laid out for a controller. Plus it's not like the controller's wired to the PS3.

Thanks op. I have the 3d monitor so this has some value to me. Although I did recently discover that my bravia remote worked on it too

This one is so much better than the first version I bought! I used to always hit the stop button watching Blu-rays, then it'd get kicked back to the XMB and I'd have to wait through minutes of loading screens, FBI warnings, trailers, etc just to get back to the main movie.
