(DEAD) Stargate SG-1: Complete Series $54.99

The price is fantastic but I don't really care for the packaging - Amazon even has a disclaimer saying the discs could easily be scratched!
This is pretty tempting for the [Stargate: Atlantis] DVD, I've been holding out for the Blu-Ray to be $50-$60.
Same here.

Is there any talk of SG:1 being released on Blu-Ray??
I know most (all?) of the seasons aren't HD, but I'd rather have a set of ~10-20 Blu-Rays than 54 DVDs!

I want to get it but I have to pass it up due to budget constraints. Too bad they won't ever make a blu ray version of the complete SG-1 series.

It would require a huge amount of work especially with the first three seasons (shot on 16mm film) to bring them up to 1080p/Blu-Ray readyness. Special effects IIRC were done at 480p as well so many of them would need to be redone. So the DVD releases will be the best we will get on the home video front for SG-1. Yeah series like Star Trek it's worth spending the money on upgrading them for HD since Paramount knows they will make the money back between the Blu-Ray sales and syndication runs. Star Gate on the other hand isn't nearly as big compared to Star Trek so I can imagine its harder for MGM to put that kind of money towards bringing say SG-1 Season 1 on Blu-Ray at this point. Heck the Children Of The Gods recut didn't sell very well on DVD from what I gather which could have been a good test towards upgrading the series for HD.

Hmmmm, I usually only buy Blu-Rays but this is a great price and as others have said this probably wont get a Blu release....I'll have to think about this, thanks for posting this OP!

I kind of doubt SG:1 will ever be released in Blu-Ray, after the way the series has been treated by MGM I don't think it will ever see the light. I think only the last 3 seasons were shot in HD and like it was mentioned, it would cost a lot of money to convert. I don't even think they even releases s2 of SGU on Blu-Ray and that is recent.
9900 minutes
and i've watched all the episodes at least twice each, now theres some life i was happy to waste!

On a side note this packaging has been known to scratch the living fuck out of the discs, hence why i purchased the series in the slip packs that came out about two years ago.

Can't stress this enough. Complete Series packaging is horrible.

You know the packaging is bad when Amazon has a big bold warning about it right below the price:

This is a multi-disc product with tiered cardboard sleeves as the main method of disc storage. Please take caution when taking each disc out of the cardboard sleeve, as rubbing the back side of the disc against the other discs will lead to scratches.

Yep. The only thing you can really hope for is a repackaged version coming out.

Already had the original sets (Big ole' boxes) so it would have been nice to own this one if the stupid packaging was better.

For those with the older fat packaging of the season. If you really want to condense your collection and have the money. There are the slimmer packaging that came out a couple of years ago:

Those are exactly what ive got! :applause:

I tried watching this series on Netflix, from start to finish. Got about 1 season or so in and was like "holy crap, I've barely scratched the surface." 10 seasons of 1 hour episodes is just insane. Great show though, I just don't have that kind of patience lol.

Is there a place to buy replacement packaging for the fat season? I'd probably go that route if it was simple enough.

I am doing the same thing - I think I started in January :) Just started season 8. My b/f and I try to watch 1 episode a night. Sure, it's a lot of episodes, but a very good show and worth it! :)

Well, i place my order last night and got ti today. ( Amazon prime for the win). Just want to say.... how can anyone who design such a nice outer box and made such shitty i8nterier casing??? I check all the disk and most of them are good, just a few got some scratch on it. For the time being i moved the disk to those microfiber case logic case.

I will inspect each one when I move them over to an extra discware organizer : crosses fingers:

I have this too, replaced the first 4 fat seasons and finished up the series. All shows should have this packaging.

Just an update from me; one disc has a decent scratch I'm a little concerned about but am hopeful. There is one disc though that looks as if it baked in the sun all day. Silver side is all messed up.

Edit: Amazon just returned my email saying they would replace the set or give me 30% off. I think I'll take the 30% off and deal with one ruined disc out of 56

Since the studio in the very early days released volumes of episodes (1 disc) instead of complete season sets if it is from the first half of the series you can probably order a used copy of that disc off ebay or amazon for practically nothing, definitely less than the 30% off.

Oh well, i can live with 55 discs for $38.xx

Guys,

Do NOT buy this ALL-IN-one package. The packaging is very poor. Don't blame Amazon, because the studios made this type of paper sleaves package and they scratched the disc easily when they're moved.
