Outfitting a Wii U for a 9yr old girl

With information gathered from this site I put my money down on a Wii U Deluxe package for my family, but primarily for my 9yr old daughter (only child).

This will be the first game console in our home. As such, I have what must be basic questions.

I am confused as to what controllers I should be adding to the system. Do I need to get a "remote+" or "nunchuk" in order to play the older wii games? Should I buy these in pairs so friends can play together? I have been told those come with the Wii U, but when I look at the packages listed on the Nintendo website, that doesn't appear to be the case.

I am intending to pick up two of the "Pro Controllers" to use with Wii U games. Is this necessary?

I will be ordering Super Mario Bros. U, Sing and Just Dance 4. I would love to hear what games your girls in that age range enjoyed.

Is there a particular title that is best at showing off the Wii U's new hardware and technology?

My personal game playing while has always been PC based first person shooters. If I am only buying one for me, what first person shooter should I get?

I am attempting to figure this out while the Newegg coupon code is still active.

To be honest the original Wii is the last console I would purchase a FPS for, however I know they are coming out with Call of Duty: BO2 for the Wii U and it actually looks like an upgrade to the PS3/360 counterparts (not sure of your opinion on COD though). Another title to consider is ZombieU but the quality of most WiiU games are going to be undetermined until they are actually released.

I would pick up a couple used Wii remotes (Wiimotes) and nunchucks for older games.

Wiimotes (Wii controller) are compatible with the Wii U and I believe Nintendo expects people to use them for the HD console.

For your kid some games you could pick up are Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, New Super Mario Bros, the Mario Galaxy games, Kirby's Epic Yarn.

My FPS experiences are all very old, think Doom, I have no opinion of COD or any of the current batch of games. I just figured dad deserved something for him to play. I'll check out both ZombieU and COD: BO2. I would like to pick something that will really show off the console if possible.

If you're not getting a deluxe, I would suggest getting Nintendoland, for something that will show off what the gamepad does.

I would concur that ZombieU would show off the console more so than COD: BO2 would, as ZombieU is an exclusive title designed around the Wii U Gamepad controller in mind.

Also, I would recommend picking up only one of the new Wii U Pro controllers, as you will probably get more use out of the old Wii remotes + nunchuck for starters. The Gamepad will act as a Wii U Pro controller anyways, so you would be fine for at least two players if the game requires a Pro controller set up. Note that all Wii U bundles only come with a Gamepad, no other controllers, just to let you know.

When looking for Wii Remotes, see if you can get the Wii Remote Plus versions, that work with all the older Wii games and newer Wii U games. If you just get the cheapest Wii remotes available (the standard, non-motion plus kind), you would need to get separate adapters to work with specific Motion Plus only titles. An easy way to tell the difference between a standard Wii Remote and a Plus variant is that the standard versions are typically white, while the Plus versions can be black, blue, or pink (this is for the official Nintendo products, not generics). The nunchucks don't matter, any version will work, so look for the cheapest.

Antlp89 has some great Wii game suggestions, I would definitely second the Animal Crossing: City Folk recommendation for your daughter. That game alone may be enough to keep her occupied for some time along with your Wii U games.

For multiplayer party games, you will need a few extra Wii Remotes +s and nunchucks. By them in pairs, but you could buy one less nunchuck. They only sell the +s these days so if you go to a big box store, you'll be fine. You won't really need the Pro Controller, but get one just in case. I doubt your daughter will be playing any games that need such a thing.

Anyway, you're just set. The above recommendations are fine. With the Wii's library, it's definitely nothing to sneeze at, as the games that are worth buying, Super Mario Galaxy, Punch Out, etc. are at the $20 mark.

Ehh... Wait for the reviews. James Bond games are very hit and miss. Nintendoland should keep you busy for a few days while reviews come out for the launch lineup

Official wiimotes are the way to go, but you have to look for them to say motionplus enabled on the bottom by the 1 and 2 buttons.

IGN reviewed JB Legends and said that it was a bad lol. An example they gave was having a huge fire fight in the parking lot of one level and then going inside the building were nobody seemed to releaize all of the commotion that just happened outside. Once inside the building you had to kill everyone with stealth kills (chop to the back of the head lol)

At first I would recommend picking up Wii games for your 9yr old. There are a lot of good games which can be had for cheap.
