Anyone playing it? Tried it after building my PC, and I love it. I can actually stand to play with random people, due to all of the cooperative elements.

It seems like it's barely even getting any exposure.

Obligatory game information:

Free-to-play third person cover-based shooter. Has F2P elements like buying cosmetic helmets (or in-game items, but limited based on level still - almost everything purchasable with in-game currency). It's been in beta for around a year now, and the gameplay is similar to Future Soldier, but much better (IMHO). Three distinct classes, with unique abilities to choose from. Heavy emphasis on teamwork, that seems to get into a bigger portion of "newbs" than most games. Also very polished. I have had zero issues, personally, besides slow-ish matchmaking.

Is this game mostly (completely?) PvP? Or are there some PvE objectives / missions? I briefly checked the game's official website and the its Wiki but I couldn't find a definitive answer.

Entirely PVP. That would turn me off normally (I hate Future Soldier's PVP), but I found it enjoyable due to the cover system, and the HUD lines that show nearby teammates (and give bonuses past level 8).

It's about a 2.5GB download and 5GB decompressed, so it may be worth checking out if curious.

I liked Ghost Recon and the Island Thunder expansion. Lots of planning out encounters while setting up your shots and commanding you squad. The semi-realism of 1 shot kills or wounds (lose use of your limb) was also interesting. However, I feel like that would make a very boring experience to have two teams of people waiting for the other to make a wrong move and very frustrating to have random people in your game who don't know the first thing about tactics.

Does the other team assume control of guards around the objectives? Also, I assume there is no perma death? I know it used to be if you got a soldier killed in a mission that was it, you could never use them again. Would be interesting though, to have to make a new character if you died. Would certainly encourage smart play.

I wasn't a fan of the original GR, but the games have changed significantly since then.

Both teams are pretty much identical (as opposed to GR: Future Soldier where they had different unlocks/weapons and it caused issues), and have access to all the same gear. There is no permadeath/Search and Destroy/one-life mode (yet?), and you respawn in about 10 seconds or so. Your 3 characters (each class) are separate in level and unlocks as well.

I've only seen two game modes, Conquest (tug-of-war domination) and Holdout (KOTH), which acted the same way. There may be more, but I've been lingering in the "beginners playlist" to play with my brother.

Some neat little things:

 • Damage numbers when hitting enemies.

 • Can buy different armor with different bonuses, and slots for minor improvements.

 • Lots of guns (a new one for each class, every 5 levels, up to level 30), and lots of attachments/variants. Each class has access to two types of weapons, but can only take one primary. (e.x. SMGs + Sniper Rifles, Shotguns + LMGs, Shotguns + ARs)

 • Can swap out abilities + guns (two per class, and two passives per class - one out at a time) mid-game, but can't change class until a game (two rounds) is over.

 • Grenades are consumables (cheap and can be found from "loot" in matches), and are not overpowered. No grenade spam!

 • Ammo is extremely limited, but can pick up ammo off enemies. Can't take their guns, though.
Just saw a gameplay video. Man this looks nothing like Ghost Recon, at least not the one I know.
Seems like Battlefield Heroes.
I've heard nothing but bad things about BF:H... Though, I did say it changed drastically. :p
