Persona 5 (Winter 2014)

Now I haven't actually played a Persona game, except Persona 4 Arena, but I'm pretty hyped about this Announcement. I've played Shin Megami Tensei games, but no Persona. I'm happy they're finally releasing this at the end of next year on the PS3 and it gives me a chance to dive into a Persona game for the first time.... Well that's unless I get impatient and buy Persona 2 on PSN.

I'm still quite furious that it's coming to the PS3 and not the PS4, but I shouldn't have been surprised. Atlus likes to milk a console dry, at the very end of the console's lifespan, for some strange reason. P3 and 4 were the absolute end of the PS2 lifespan... plus I think the PSP ports were pretty far into the PSP's lifespan too. Maybe they do all their coding with two finger typing and it takes five years.

Anyway, if you haven't played a Persona game, you should definitely look up Persona 3 Portable on the PSP/PSN (works with Vita) or P4 Golden (Vita exclusive remake of P4). They're incredibly addicting dungeon crawl RPGs with monster hunting elements and have shockingly likable characters. You'll definitely have favorite party members.

As far as story goes, P3 is more like a Harry Potter type of plot while P4 is closer to Scooby-Doo (that sounds like it would be dumb but it's really not -- many think P4 is the best they've ever made).

Just be glad we're getting a console release at all, I had almost given up hope that even after Catherine (their tech demo for their RPG's) that we wouldn't be getting any SMT games on console after SMT IV went to 3DSXL. And even though I just beat it a few days ago, I would have preferred a console release (especially after 100 hours of squinting at that screen).

And your last comment about milking system until after it's expiration date isn't totally accurate, they started on PS2 with SMT Nocturne in 2003 and then finally released Persona 4 in 2008, which is usually how Atlus does things.

This last console generation wasn't kind to them in terms of development and their lack of productivity. Not sure what that was about other than Index skimming money off of the top (of development budgets) or something like that.

Isn't the goal to release a product to as many potential buyers as possible? The PS3 currently has over 80 million units sold, versus 2.4 million for the PS4 currently. Now, I'm sure Sony will be able to get that number up to about 10 million by next Winter? That's still nothing compared to the amount of potential sales the PS3 will get them. Once 2015 hits, I'm sure this will be different and the PS4 will be the main system for the market.
