Just received Natural Doctrine in the mail from my Best Buy preorder.

SRPGs are my favorite genre (Fire Emblem my favorite series).

Playing a lot of Madden now and have quite the backlog to work thru, but have been anticipating this release for months.

Anyone play ND yet and if so, what are your thoughts?  Is there a good online presence that I should take advantage of now or just plan to play it down the road offline?

Early review scores are destroying my interest and I'm a big time Ogre Tactics, FFT(PS1), Disgaea fan...

I think I'll pass. If I get a hunger so a SRPG I'll dust off FFT or Disgaea 3.

I haven't played it yet, but I wouldn't write it off just because of those scores. The SRPG genre is usually criminally underscored these days since it is so niche. It also doesn't help that it appears to have a steep difficulty curve, which unless a game is titled Demon Souls, will result in people bitching endlessly about it and trashing a game.

I still have high hopes for the game, I just don't have the time for it at the moment (sucked into Madden myself when I do have some gaming time).

Disgaea 4 was released a couple years ago has a 82 critic score and a 92 user score on Metacritic.com

Natural Doctrine has a 52 critic score and a 7.5 user score.

So yeah, you're right that critics are harder on SRPG than gamers but still, gamers aren't glowing either.

I knew I would probably be taken to task for those comments. :)

I know what you're saying, but I still have a feeling that I am going to really dig ND once I get a shot to finally play it. I pretty much enjoy all SRPGs to some degree and with the pedigree this game has, it just ramps up my expectations a little bit. I also tend to be pretty dismissive of reviewers, so I was not really put off by the crap reviews at all.
