Is there a free anti-vrius software thats any good

AVG 6.0 ive heard is good, just got it yesterday, also might want to try spysweeper in addition to spybot or adaware. it gets most of what they miss.

housecall.antivirus.com

online virus scan from trendmicro. same pattern file & engine as pc-cillin. works very well esp if your comp is alredy affected.

As multiple people have put up.. AVG (same as www.grisoft.com) is the way to go. Automatic updating and scheduling, pretty up to date and seems to catch about everything. I've run it up against Norton and Mcafee and haven't had either of them catch anything AVG missed.

Just to chime in, I've been using Grisoft's AVG for years, and it's been excellent and easy to use. Also, about once a week I go to Trend Micro's site and run their free online scanner. Can't be too careful.
Avast for virus.

Zone Alarm for a free firewall.

Ad-Aware and Spybot for spyware.
agreed

some stated above...

Ad Aware, Zone Alarm & Spy Bot/ Search & Destroy are all great free programs.

Google them! b/c 'google' is a verb.
