UMD Death ahead?

I think Blu Ray will share the same fate for a different reason -- too much protection and not enough of an advantage for anyone without an HDTV (which is most people.)

UMD's are just straight up impractical.

But isnt the point of Blu Ray for HD TVs. In the near future HD TVs will become cheaper and most people will own them. Blu Ray and HD DVD are made for HD TVs, so why would there be any advantages to a user without that kind of tv?
And i agree totally about UMDs being impractical and just to add there overpriced

Honestly, who truley bothered to buy overpriced UMD movies to play on a small screen when most people had the original DVD's already? Then sony wonders why they flop :dodgy:

Its funny too, because I know some people did go out and rebuy the movies in UMD. Which the funny part is they could care less to see the original again, but bothered to rebuy it just to have it. Oh well....

If umd movies were 7.99-12.99 max then we wouldnt see any problems with selling umd movies imo.

over last xmas i remember seeing umd movies for 19.99-29.99 at best buy
those prices are a joke imo .

new dvd releases are around 14.99-16.99 and you can rip them and use them however you like.

there was never any justification for the high prices for umd movies.

example.
umd movie priced at 20.00 sells 20,000 units = 400,000 dollars
umd movie priced at 13.00 sells 50,000 units = 650,000 dollars.

Basically more people will buy umd movies if the price is LOWERed .

But also lets not forget that with every month that passes more and more people buy Psp's . which means there is still a bigger potential to sell umb movies today then there was last year when they were first introduced.

Price point make a huge difference in success of failure of selling any product.
And umd is a perfect example.

well i did like having the option to buy umd's.. sad that they are pulling support..

Some were reasonbaly priced at ddd and thats were i would always order them from.

Great prices on the wrestling umd's

UMD's was a decent concept while they last(ed). Just sony doesn't seem to care much after they release their new formats. Just like minidiscs. Ironically, how can a 'universal media disc' have such a name when its propreitary?

Again with the price helping is failure, seriously how can you expect a consumer to go out and REBUY certain "media" when its priced higher then the current media they already have! Its not even mainstream! Its foolish.
If they made Porn UMD's, umds would survive
In Japan they do. Go hit up play-asia and browse their UMD section.

UMD is awesome... if you're playing games. The only reasonable use for a UMD is a PSP game, just like a GBA cart is a great place for a GBA game.

I heard very bad things about their porn, so no. But if an American company would have made umds, it would have sold well and maybe got people into the habit of buying umds.

I believe you. The real bordome is, that we as a consumer have to pay for sh** we even not benefit.
I even go so far, to say, that HD DVD will make the run. Just simply because M$ is on the board to support it and promote it.
It makes me somewhat :censored:.
I know people saying that Blueray will be the standart. But we will see, how it look one year after release.
