Anyone familiar with TheGameChest.com?

CAGiversary!
Hello fellow CAG's,

Apologies in advance to the powers that be, and everyone else for that matter, if this thread is in the incorrect forum, but I read all the forum descriptions and felt that this would be the best choice. I mean, the description says that this forum is for talking about any video game stores so...

Anyway, like the topic says, I'm wondering if familiar with this vendor. The address is http://www.thegamechest.com. It seems to be an online store selling video games (I know that most of you are thinking that I'm just stating the obvious, but please bear with me). However, the problem is that I've never heard of this site nor has anyone else I've asked, in person or via other forums. Their selection isn't great but they're the only ones I've found so far to sell this one game that I have been looking for for quite some time now. I don't know if they sell primarily used games or new or if they have a good reputation or not. I've tried contacting the company for more information but no response as of yet.

So has does anyone know anything about this site? Personal experiences? Rumors through the grapevine? Know of friends of friends twice removed who randomly came across this site thinking it was something else? Because I'm sure you'll all agree that the only thing worse than over-paying for a game is getting screwed all together.

Thanks.

The prices are ridiculous, many of the product images are based on old mock-ups from years ago, and the layout itself is pretty amateurish. I'd trust it about as far as I can throw my desk.

Well I was inspired to email this site after seeing the outrageous prices. Here is the letter for any interested:p

Good Morning,

Well I was visiting my favorite video game forum this morning and I came across your website. Your name sounded interesting, so I decided to check you out. This initial and last visit was suprisingly shocking. Have you not done any research on price comparrison? I understand there is a market that probably has no clue on gaming prices, but for the most part the gaming community is well aware of prices. Who in their right mind would pay $46.95 for the following:

- Advent Rising
- Cold Winter
- Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition
- Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
- Resident Evil 4
- And many more budget titles on your site

All these titles can be easily obtained for around $19.99 in most major retailers. I guess I'm supposed to be enticed with the "Free Standard Shipping" Maybe you all flunked out of business school or missed key classes in marketing, whatever the case don't expect to stay afloat for long. Good luck with this venture, trust me you will need all you can get.

An educated gamer

For some reason the page music doesn't seem to work in my browser, but I guess I'm not missing anything:rofl:

It's a really bad midi file version of Ric Flair's entrance theme...

KOTOR2 - $46.95...W00t!!!

I seem to remember someone with a similar nickname to the OP who did some spamming and got banned. I somehow think that he tried a different tactic and didn't use his first post for spam.

HAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAAHAAHHA

And furthermore, I went ahead and ordered Dragonball Z Legends and Doom 3 because of the free shipping. Both for under $90, which I dare anyone to match. Can't wait to play them.

Looking at the prices, I bet his business is based around getting an order for a game, going to EB/Gamestop and buying it for $20 less or so, and shipping out to the buyer. fuck you, OP.

To my knowledge I have never been to this site before until recently. I heard about this place via another forum that was discussing saving money on good deals and such.

The game I'm looking for is Star Wars: Jedi Academy for the XBOX. And so far that is the only site I've found that is willing to sell it new (I'm assuming that it's new b/c I don't see any indication otherwise but am not really sure) for about $20. All the other places that I've seen that sell it new want $50 for it or maybe a buck or two less than that. I understand that EBGames has the game used for $17.99 but, and perhaps I'm in the minority here, but I prefer not to buy things used due to bad experiences in the past with used items and thus am willing to pay a bit more to buy things new. I've searched via Yahoo!Shopping and that's where I came across TheGameChest in the first place. Otherwise, all the other results were for individual sellers through Amazon or Ebay and such, and were also used. The bigger companies (ie. Best Buy, Circuit City) don't even list the game to begin with.

I understand that this game is rather old and will be hard to find and if my search does end up finding nothing, then I may just have to buy it used from EB but if the possibility does exist that I can get this game new for only $2 more, I'd like to explore it to the fullest before I have to make a decision.

To those who thinks this site is bad or shady, I totally agree. And to those who say I shouldn't waste my money on Jedi Academy, I'm a big Star Wars fan and will basically play anything with the Star Wars name attached to it and like it due to that bias.
