Was planning on gettnig a DS lite but my car now needs an expensive repair.....I am thinking of maybe just getting a DS in the meantime since I have seen them for as cheap as $70ish here but was wondering how good/bad the DS's screen is.

Would you compare it to the GBA, GBA SP or GBA SP2 or somewhere in between? I plan on going to gamestop/ebgames sometime to compare myself, but might be awhile since again car needs repair.

I'm pretty sure the original DS is the same as the GBA SP. The DS Lite seems more like the SP2, but I think it might get even brighter at the highest setting. If I had one I would tell you for sure.

I understand that the DS Lite's screen is amazing, but that doesn't mean the regular DS has a bad screen. I think it's pretty good to be honest. For the meantime, IMO, you'll be plenty happy with a regular DS.

Thats what I was guessing. If the DS's screen was similar to the GBA SP2 I would get it in a heartbeat....with it being closer to the GBA SPs I think I will probally go and test it out at a gamestore before I purchase one, might rather just wait a month or two and get a DS Lite.

It's definitely not as bad as the regular SP. The regular SP is front lit while the DS is back lit. The DS is not as good as the SP2 but it's still really good.

Yea it is NOTHING like the original SP. NOTHING. The original SP was front-lit and suffered from blurring and double-vision on everything, most prominently on text and high contrast images. The SP does not offer high brightness, but it still has a sharp screen that is backlit.

The brightness level on the SP(well assuming it is the same as the SP2s darker setting)wasnt what bugged me, it was the lack of color. Even on the darker setting I could usually see my screen, but unless I played on the brighter setting it seemed like everything came out kinda blah, you could hardly make out the colors.

This DS' screen is decent. It's not ultra bright, but it's sufficient and it was a huge step up from playing on the original GBA (which isn't saying much...) I really can't complain about the screen.

Thanks! And after seeing that all I can say is...god damnit. Guess I will be buying a DS Lite. If I could get a DS for like $60 shipped I think I would do it and wait a few months to get a DS Lite(DS is good enough to hold me off and the fiancee would then have one for multi play)but I deffintly will just wait a month or two to be able to afford a DS Lite otherwise.

Damn fiancee buying a Ford!

Bout what I expected, as I said I will just hold off to buy a DS Lite when I can afford it. The screen really blows the regular DSs away and the design is REALLY nice.
