I'm looking for a couple decent, preferably short films that cover/are related to western civilization from the beginning of time to around the 1600's. Any type of film will work whether it is historically accurate or not. The film can also cover mythological stories and fables as well.

The only movie I don't want to see is Gladiator, everything else is fair game.

Thanks in advance.

That's actually the only film I can think of myself that I would want to watch. I'm not going to exclude it yet, but I want to see the director's cut and it's over 3 hours long IIRC. I'm not completely pressed for time, but I still have some other things to do.

Well you've got your classic bible films, your classic roman/greek films (Troy, Spartacus etc.)

That Clash of the Titans movie was THE SHIT when I was like, 10-12 years old. The guy cutting off Madusa's head was the goriest thing on TV.

If you really want to go old school try Fritz Langs "Seigfried" and its sequel "Kriemhild's Revenge". Both of these are silent films based on old Norse/Germanic Myths.

You might be able to find both films in a DVD collection called "Die Nibelungen". Its pretty cool shit if you can take the slow pace of the movies of that era.

The Patriot is decent. If you want some more modern ones, Enemy at the Gates and Thirteen Days are good. Here are some others:

Elizabeth
Master and Commander
Caligula
Shakespeare in Love
Braveheart
A Knights Tale

Thats all I can think of right now

fuck yaeh! Fritz Lang was so ahead of the time. I love his films. I finally picked up the M Criterion recently.

Bleh, the Hollywood video didn't have Clash of the Titans or the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven. So instead of spending money to rent a couple of films I probably wouldn't have cared for I went to my neighbor's house and borrowed Alexander and King Arthur. Probably not my best choices, but it's more convenient and it'll work.

Thanks for all the help.

Here are some

Spartacus (1960)
Ben-Hur (both the 1925 & 1959 versions)
Jason And The Argonauts (1963)
The Crusades (1935)
I'll try to think of some more. Why don't you check out some of the films by Cecil B. DeMillie.
