The Wii is making me do something I thought I would never do...PRE-ORDER.

CAGiversary!
Not only am I pre-ordering this sytem THE DAY that the first pre-order is possible, I also have $180 in GameStop Gamebucks that should cover just about the entire cost of the sytem. I am frankly surprised I am doing this as I am a lazy bastard. Such is the power of Wii.

I was gunna pre-order it, but for some reason I would honestly rather stand outside the store for hours waiting for it to open. Just so I can say I did it.

Definitely.

And preordering is just a gamble.
"Ill bet you 50 bucks that I can get it when it launches!"
It's not 100% sure if you will. Only time i'd preorder is if I am in no rush to get the console.

If you are really on edge and want it. Stand outside.

I plan on doing it for the PS3 and maybe the Wii depending on it's availability. Gamecube wasn't that hard to find when it launched.

I'm pre-ordering the first day as well. My buddy at GS will be calling me right when GS gets the word to take orders. I have around $230 in GS credit and hopefully Nintendo Wiill stretch that digital dollar to its fullest.

QFT. There's just something fun about doing this, especially if you have friends with you.

I'm also considering pre-ordering the system, making it my first pre-order for anything. None of my friends like the Wii so I doubt they will stand in line with me.

Not to mention the sweet multiplayer DS action that is sure to take place in line. I'll probably pre-order it as well (and I hate pre-ordering anything), but I'll probably be in line somewhere as well just for insurance.

Yup, I'm planning to pre-order as well. Here's a question: do any of y'all know how these retailers usually handle launch day situations? Such as, if I pre-order at EB or GS and do the usual waiting, do you have to wait until 9-10AM when the store opens and then run in there as quickly as you can - or do they usually do a voucher situation for people in line? Same question goes for Best Buy, CC, etc. I'd just hate to have that frantic situation of having to run around to get the games I want and all that with a ton of fellow losers all as desperate as I am. :)

I went alone to wait outside for the 360. It was cold, I didn't know anyone, but I still had a good time. I think its just that excitement and anticipation that makes it so much fun.

Feh. I waited alone outside for my 360 and the engine in my car broke on the way home. As much as I'd love to spend 12 hours sitting outside playing my DS with everyone else, I'd much rather be at home sleeping this launch :p

No kidding, you people are either insane or really young to want to stay the night outside some store. Me, I'm too old (and sane) for that. I'll preorder . I'll probably end up preordering at a couple places just to make sure I get one though.

I've been doing a lot of game preorders thanks to Gamerush and their preorder deal (and the fact that if you don't preorder they often don't get the game at all). But I've never actually preordered hardware before - hopefully they will get the Wii, as their Nintendo support has been shaky recently.
I will never pre-order anything.

EVER.

Never ever.
I have been screwed on preorders for systems, after the PS2 fiasco and Software Etc. screwed my friend out of a PS2 (I got mine that I preordered the same day he did.) Then the reports of the 360 preorders... Wal-Mart is your fried for system launches.

I'm torn-

Part of me says preorder, and part of me says wait to see if there's any hardware faults with the first batch.

Since the Wii isn't as advanced as the other next-gen consoles, I would expect much less of a chance for any failures, but you never know.

Can you say "DS lite hinge crack"?

I'm counting on it! Like I said, I've never preordered a system, but it works that way with games at both EB/GS and GR, so I assume it would with systems too.

The other problem with waiting outside a Walmart or Fry's or whatever, is that, not only are you spending all that time for no guarantee of getting one, it means paying in real money. I prefer paying in credit (obtained via profitable trade-in deals) that I already have. So, I need to get the Wii and PS3 at either EB or GR. I can wait if they don't get them on Day 1 (though I'd rather get the Wii on Day 1 if I had to choose ).

well at the very least nintendo is opting to fix it free of charge
After the whole 360 hoorah, I'd think that waiting on launch day might be better insurance than preordering...
If going to, say, EB or GameStop, will pre-ordering AND waiting be necessary, ya think?

I've never done it, obviously.

Or might it be a better bet to just do the waiting shabang outside of a Best Buy or CC and hope for line vouchers? Because like I said, if I could avoid the awkward mad dash for games and whatnot, that'd be great (assuming it's even like that, I really have no idea - I know I've had some Black Friday experience though, and it ain't pretty then).

Yeah, I know, but my point is the DS is pretty simple compared to the Wii, and if the DS can have a problem.......

I guess I've got a few weeks to decide whether to preorder. I'm thinking I will, 'cos I know that I'll probably get caught up in all the new console hype.

Ahh, gotta love the start of a new hardware cycle!!!!!

I thought I'd just bump this thread rather than starting a new one, but it's a bit tangental.

I'm torn on what to do for the Wii. On the one hand, I'd think that just waiting at WalMart at launch would get me one. On the other hand I see the wisdom of preordering the system at my local, semi-rural EB store, just for security reasons (but, we all know how well 360 preorders went). My question is, this, can I preorder at GS/EB, and if I can get the system earlier elsewhere (or they don't get enough in, etc.), can I simply transfer that preorder money to game or something?

I've never preordered anything before, so please excuse my ignorance.

Yes, you can transfer it to something else. They haven't even started to take preorders on the system though, and might not take any at all. If they do decide to start, they'll most likely do so in the days following the price and release date announcement.

Right, I just want to have a plan in place in the event that I opt to preorder, I can get in early.

So, preordering is bascilly just buyuing credit then? Even if my machine is there waiting for me, I could just move that money to buy something else in-store or preorder something different?

Exactly. The money you put down is basically saying you want that item, so they'll hold it for 48 hours (unless you have a special circumstance that you can't make it, which they should then hold it longer). If you change your mind, you can move it to something else, either purchasing something that day or just preordering something else.
