With the talk of best rock artist and yadda yadda, I thought the man (Mercury) needed a thread. Queen was a freaking amazing band and I totally agree with the majority of you that he'll never ever be fucking replaced.

The first time I heard queen was on my Sony FM/AM sports walkmen when I was a kid. I was going through our tapes and found Sheer Heart Attack and popped it in. The first song I heard on it was Stone Cold Crazy and man that song fucking rocks. I just remember from that day on I was freaking obsessed with Queen and wanted to be just like Mercury (minus the gay stuff).

My favorite Queen song would probably have to be Another One Bites the Dust and Bohemian Rhapsody. Nothing beats the bass line in Another One Bites the Dust. Nothing beats the epic song Bohemian Rhapsody either just cause, well it kicks ass.

Hopefully you guys have good stories of your first hearing of Queen.

I think my favorite song is Killer Queen. Everything about that song works so well together from the vocal harmonies, to the guitar solos, to the awesome rhythm.

I don't know about the first time I heard Queen since I probably heard them all the time without being conscious of it. The first I became aware of Queen was probably from watching Wayne's World in the theaters when I was like 10.

As a longtime fan, if forced to pick 1 favorite (tough for me), I would choose "It's Late" off of the News of the World disc. For some reason, that one speaks to me...

Gotta love Another One Bites The Dust. The first time I heard Queen was probably when they used Another One Bites The Dust in "Small Soldiers". Hard to choose a favorite but I really like Don't Stop Me Now, Killer Queen, Invisible Man, Under Pressure and of course Bohemian Rhapsody.

This is a ridiculous question, as they have literally dozens of amazing songs.

Five good ones - Keep Yourself Alive, Princes of the Universe, The Show Must Go On, Under Pressure, & Innuendo.

the first time I can specifically remember hearing them (although i know i heard them long before this) was in one of the mighty ducks movies a while back...we are the champions

i dont have a favorite, i like a lot of their songs equally

IU will be your badd boy I will be yoourr bad toy to The spppppppppeeeedddd offfff Liiiighhtttttt...........

Flash AAhhhhhh he is ambigous ahhhhhhhhhhh He saved every one of us now he saved.............

Amazing band. I heard their stuff all throughout my childhood, but these last few years I've really been getting into them. Hell, I just wrote a paper over Freddie Mercury for school.

It's really tough to pick a single favorite song. Some of my favorites are Keep Yourself Alive, Don't Stop Me Now, Leaving Home Ain't Easy, Stone Cold Crazy, and Under Pressure (Bowie is awesome as well).

Damn, This is hard.. Right now, I think I like Sheer Heart Attack the most. It just starts out rockin! There really isn't an album of theirs I don't care for.. maybe Hot Space, but there are still some awesome songs on there (Under Pressure)
I like, Liar, Bo Rhapsody, Flick of the Wrist, Who Wants to live Forever, Radio Ga ga.. too many. I agree with the OP.. There will never be anyone like Freddie Mercury.
They have a new DVD/CD out with interviews and lost of his solo stuff called: Lover of life, singer of songs.. in case anyone did not know.
My first introduction of Queen was A crazy little thing called love that was on a tape that I found when I was like 12 or 13.. then of course after Wayne's World, I had to get a CD.. They were/are still one of the greatest.

My favorite Queen song is Bohemian Rhapsody. It's the first Queen song I heard, and I first heard it when I saw Wayne's World. Of course I'm more into them now then I was at 8, heh. Honorable mention goes to Killer Queen, Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Stone Cold Crazy.

Oh and because of Vanilla Ice, I cannot enjoy listening to Under Pressure.

I probably heard We Will Rock You / We are the Champions first. I liked Queen since an early age. It kind of pisses me off that some people started liking Queen after Wayne's World. Not so much that they discovered them from that movie, but what really pissed me off are the people that pretended they liked Queen or that they heard of them a long time before that movie.

My favorite album might be A Kind of Magic (aka Highlander Soundtrack). A Kind of Magic, One Year of Love, Princes of the Universe, Who Wants to Live Forever... lots of classic tracks on that album.

Bingo.

I must be old becuase Another One Bites The Dust was the Lions theme song over 20 years ago - the last time they were in the playoffs.

The best Queen song ever is I'm in Love With My Car. Period, hands down, there is no other possible rational argument for any other choice, you young, young ones.

Under Pressure. I just fucking love that song. Bowie and Mercury = excellence.

I think my first time hearing Queen was watching Wayne's World.

Barring a unique memory like the OP's, it's obviously difficult to remember the first time you heard something... going by vague, vague memories here, I can remember jamming to "We Will Rock You" while playing outside in the grass during recess... I think there were some popular parody lyrics floating around -- ones that I can't really remember at the moment.

A buddy of mine (who I really don't talk to anymore) really got me into Queen. They're such a ... unique and quirky band. I never got too into them but they definitely had some fantastic stuff.

Yes, the best Queen song is The Show Must Go On. My first experience was seeing the video for Bohemian Rhapsody and I had to hear more music from them.

I don't really have a favorite song, but I remember listening to my dad's albums when I was really young, and he had News Of The World in there. I always preferred listening to Zeppelin, though.
Fat Bottomed Girls hell yea!

Get on your bikes and ride!
Honestly, Fat Bottomed Girls is the only song I don't care for from Queen. Though I know a couple of guys that go ape shit when they hear it for obvious reasons...
i can listen to Dont Stop Me Now over and over again...
So can I. It's one of the songs on my player when I'm shooting pool. I go on an ass-kicking streak when Queen hits.

Man, I feel sorry for people weened onto Queen from Wayne's World.

Thankfully, my parents are awesome when it comes to music taste, and Queen is their favorite band. Alongside all their vinyl (which I have requested to be given to me, which has now been granted) that runs the gamut from Beatles to Stones to Pink Floyd to Cream to The Who, Queen stands tall and proud and singular.

They'd rock that shit out all through the entire house the way it was meant to be heard - under a damn needle and on a turntable. Still do, in fact.

'Course, they have CDs and casettes of everything, so I've been listening to Queen songs for as long as I can remember (their only competition in terms of early exposure is Harry Chapin, who is a brilliant musician, and you simply have not lived if you haven't listened to him).

So we'd be on car trips, and they'd blast out Bicycle, Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Gaga, Killer Queen, We Will Rock You, and everything else in between.

Only other thing to mention is that, being near Texas A&M college, I believe We Will Rock You was an anthem for the Aggies for a while, so I probably heard it off and on around town and on TV.

Anyway, easily one of the best bands to ever come around, and Freddie Mercury is the best frontman who will ever live.

RIP.

I first song I heard of Queen's Another Bites the Dust. R&B station in chicago used play the hell out out of it in the late 80's. The guitar is so fucking cold on that song.

Liked them since 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' was a current single. (yeah, I'm old)

other favorites:
I Want To Break Free
One Vision
Radio Gaga
Under Pressure
Killer Queen
Fat Bottom Girls

You are very, very deluded. That song doesn't even have Freddie on lead vocals.

It's a good song...considering Roger sings it.

Speaking of that song, though - Sheer Heart Attack IS a great album. I'm pretty sure that was the first "regular" Queen album I bought (meaning a non comp/greatest hits album).

Made in Heaven creeped me the fuck out. It was eerie as hell to hear Freddie come in on the first song when it had been a few years since his death.

While I won't say it's the *only* song I don't care for from them, I agree it's one of their worst singles. That and "You're My Best Friend."
Man, I feel sorry for people weened onto Queen from Wayne's World.
I don't - at least they got into them. Most kids in their teens now won't even get into them because the hot new Nickelback song is all their local rock station will feed to them.

I started listening about a year or two before Wayne's World came out, so it was actually pretty cool timing. I got into them, got an album or two and liked them, then they hit a popularity resurgence to go along with my interest.

Made in Heaven creeped me the fuck out. It was eerie as hell to hear Freddie come in on the first song when it had been a few years since his death. Over the last 10 years or so we've all become desensitized to stuff like that, though. This phenomenon is known as "The Tupac Effect."

Great song no one has mentioned yet - I'm Going Slightly Mad.

My top 5 favorite Queen songs:

5. We Will Rock You
4. Tie Your Mother Down
3. We Are The Champions
2. Fat Bottomed Girls
1. Bohemian Rhapsody

MTV played the video for Bohemian Rhapsody a lot after Freddie Mercury died. I believe I was 10 at the time. I've heard Queen before that, but that's the first time I really paid any attention to their music. Then Wayne's World came out, and for a long time, I associated the song with that scene from the movie. In my sophomore year of high school, I got into rock music, and discovered more of their stuff.
However, for whatever reason, it wasn't until this year that I finally got some Queen CD's. I got Greatest Hits a few months ago, and Classic Queen, which I bought on Amazon, just came in the mail yesterday.

Bohemian Rhapsody-probably cuz its 1 of like 3 songs of theirs that I've heard. I first heard it in Wayne's World.
I heard "We Are the Champions" when the Spurs won the title in 03. I didnt even know it was them at first.

I was in 2nd grade when Flash Gordon came out. A kid in our class brought in a 45 of the main theme which became class property for the rest of the year. The flip side was the "football song" from the movie. We'd spin that on the huge-ass brown plastic industrial school record player and all the boys would move the desks and slam dance 'til we were dizzy. Later, our teacher, Ms. Purvis, who was hotter than the Sun, would read us a Mr. Men book and we'd get juice and cookies. To this day, I think that's probably what Heaven is like.

Rollerskating at the local rink to "Another One Bites the Dust" around the same time was another highlight of my youth.

Get Down, Make Love
Killer Queen
Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Under Pressure
Don't Stop Me Now

There are a ton of great Queen songs...
