Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens ingested a large amount of prescription pain medication in a suicide attempt at his home, according to a Dallas police report cited by WFAA/Channel 8.
The report indicates that when police asked Owens if he had tried to harm himself, he said yes, the station reported.
KTVT/Channel 11 reported Wednesday that a woman named "Etheridge," likely Owens' publicist Kim Etheridge, called police at 7:51 p.m. Tuesday to report a suicide attempt. The station said Owens ingested 35 pills. On Tuesday night, a Cowboys source said that Owens had suffered an allergic reaction to pain medication and was admitted to Baylor Medical Center.

Owens left the hospital early this morning and police said they would make a statement during "working hours." A news conference will be held later today, police said.
On Tuesday, Etheridge said of the incident: "This is not serious."

KTVT/Channel 11 reported Tuesday that a fire rescue team took Owens to the hospital, reportedly to the emergency room to induce vomiting. Dallas police did not confirm nor deny any details. Calls to Owens' agent were not returned.
Owens was on pain medication after he suffered a broken bone leading to his right ring finger in the Sept. 17 game against Washington. The next day, Owens had a plate screwed in to protect the bone so it could heal with no further risk of damage.
Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said Sept. 20, "the pain medicine made [Owens] ill."
The original prognosis was that Owens would be out two to four weeks.
But after having the plate inserted into his hand, the question was whether Owens could withstand the pain of playing and catching passes with the plate.
Owens has not practiced with the team since the injury. He caught passes Tuesday on the side from teammate Sam Hurd, and Parcells said he thought Owens would join the team for practice today.
"Yeah, the swelling has gone down pretty good," Parcells said. "He's caught some balls and he ran a lot [Tuesday]. [Today] he'll do something. We have a ways to go."
Man, he and Rodman are peas from the same pod. I'll never understand them, but they are both great athletes (or were), and are both crazy as loons.....but in a good way....sometimes. Just keep on rocking on the field, and do whatever off the field.....or quit if that makes you happy. Suicide solves nothing.

Pretty sure he did not really want to die, just kinda of cry out.

Yeah, he is good on the field - but he is an ass.

Rodman never tried to kill himself though, at least not that I remember. While there's no doubt both need the constant attention, I think TO has some very severe emotional issues.

I remember an interview where he said after a game in either Detroit or San Antonio, he was in his car in the parking lot with a gun and thinking about it. So he didn't attempt it, but he contemplated it for quite some time.

It was in Detroit, I believe. He wrote about it in his autobiography.

Merge it, baby!
Unless I'm missing something these threads are two different topics.

Hmmm, I just imagined the opening scene from The Last Boy Scout...I wonder why...?

Just saw the Live press conference, after working out at practice a few hours ago T.O. seemed to be pretty coherent and he mentioned he took anywhere between 2-3 pills of hydrocortum along with his supplements. He also mentioned he couldnt really recall vividly anything from about 5pm yesterday, when he had some physical therapy treatment. He denies attempting sucide and his publicist said he has "25 million reasons not to".

So, it really is all about the Benjamins?
whatever he says, I still believe he did it
The initial report was that his unidentified friend noticed an empty bottle of pain pills, from which Owens had supposedly only taken 5 of (out of 40) previously. And he tried to stop him from stuffing two more pills in his mouth. 35 pain pills ain't an accident with supplements and vitamins.

Unless he's trying to say that all of this happened while he was out of whack due to a reaction to his supplements/vitamins from the day before.

I think he tried it too. It just sounds so TO. Besides, telling me that he did not try and waste himself because he has lots of money is BS, rich people kill themselves too. Suicide is not determined by only money.

I think this is just a cover because this is VERY bad press to have, of course his agent and he himself are now saying he did not try and kill himself. This crap happens a lot with sports stars, you see it a bunch when the person that is involved in bad stuff is from the town you are from(and it is a small town).

I'll be interested to see if they release the tape of the 911 call. I certainly hope that if it was his intent to kill himself, that he'll get some counseling. Denying it now won't help anything, and his publicist is foolish to think that 25 million is going to deter him from making another attempt somewhere down the line.

He gets such a rough treatment from the press because of him being such a caliber player and the fact he didn't get along with a couple of teams. I would hope that he would get treatment, but I doubt it, it would just show weakness and that definitely isn't what T.O. is about. I mean he is playing with a broken finger, thats gotta be rough.

maybe this is the first chink we find in his hard exterior. maybe now we can see the real T.O and not the one we have been witnessing before this tragic incident.

Here's what the president of the Dallas Police Association had to say:
"The officers reacted because they were called to this location to do this job. Now they're being put under a microscope by some fancy little football person," Senior Cpl. Glenn White said. "Give me a break. Those officers are 10 times better than this man. ... We police officers don't go out to these calls and make stuff up."

pwned... or something.
