EDIT: resolved, go ahead and close it mod, thx

OK, I sold my half broken PS2 (played only silver bottoms) and some games to a guy in another forum that has over 350 pos. feedback. I told him many times about the problem:

1.Me = "Well small problem, when I adjusted the lens to play PS1/colored disc's the other day, it would play those fine but not the normal silver ones. I just noticed that today. So I adjusted it back and it plays the silver normal games perfect but can't read the colored (black/blue bottoms)."

Then he says:
"Ok so i guess i'll still take as long as it will play the Silver bottom games"

So he finally got it, and now he wants to send it back since it doesn't work. I told him earlier he could do that if it doesn't work (silvers) but he wants to send it back b/c the blue/ps1's don't work.

What do I do? I told him many times before the transaction what was wrong and he agreed. I need the PS2 gone so I said he can have it for $15 below what he agreed on. He's a nice guy and I'm trying to give him a break.

What do you guys recommend? I hate being an ass in plain words but he did know before it didn't work too well. I also threw in a free game too to compensate.

What the hell? You clearly informed him that the PS2 didn't work right, and he bought it anyway, and is now complaining? Did you remind him of all the times you told him it wasn't working right?

This guy is a jackass. I imagine, though, that you're trying to build a good trade reputation. I would try talking to other people on the forum and see if they've delt with this guy before. I really think you should just tell him that if he doesn't want it, he should pay for the return shipping costs himself and you will refund him all or most of the cost.

He said he will return it and he wants to work out a deal w/ the games so at least the whole trade wasn't a flop, which is good, but it just frustrates me that I spent 3 hours! the day before driving around trying to find a post office so I could use flat rate box.

And I told him that it only played silvers, he said OK, and now that he has it he wants to send it back.

I sent first though since I only have like 4 feedback and he has almost 400.

He seems like a nice guy it's just that I'm frustrated, plus I need the PS2 gone, and I'm going to have trouble trying to sell it again

Ok, so we are trying to work out some other deal, so he listed some games/systems he has. I'd much rather have money, but this is better than nothing.

What is the best to get (maybe even for re selling)? I'll list what he listed

"Any intrest in a like brand new GameBoy Advance Wide Screen w/box & manual, Wormlite, Super Mario Advance 4/Super Mario Bros. 3 w/manual cart, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 cart, Final Fantasy 1 & 2 Dawn of Souls unopened, Texas Hold'em. Dreamcast Sport Edition w/h-ups, 1 controller, 1 VMU plus mc,Record of Lodoss War, Dino Crisis, Unreal Tournament,Test Drive 6, GameShark CDX. Let me know if any of it intrest you.
Poker complete, Xenosaga III unopened, "

Guy's an ass, but sounds like he has you by the balls. He has your stuff and hasn't sent anything to you yet.

Be careful about taking it in the ass on the new deal he wants to work out just on some games. If it looks like he just wants to screw you as far as what you get vs. he keeps just tell him to send the entire package back and forget it. If it does look like it's going to be a total bust you might want to post a thread or contact a mod/whatever there just so your side of the story is established if he decided to leave you poor FB for sending a damaged PS2 and then nixing the deal.

Well to be honest, I don't want the PS2 back, I won't have a chance of selling it again, so I need what I can get and sell it to get some money for the silver PS2

He has 390 feedbacks, which is crazy, so he seems trustworthy. I told him I wasn't too interested in the stuff he listed but would rather get some money/games if possible.

Don't worry, I'm not going to let him screw me over, I'm not that dumb

stupid noob, the usps will send you as many flat rate boxes to your door(free).

In all seriousness(you are not that stupid of a noob, i have seen much much worse), its possible something happened in transit, given how fragile the ps2s are.

I would let him send the ps2 back and then give him neutral or negative feedback depending on if he compensates you for the shipping and mention that you stated up front that the system would only play silver bottom games, and he is returning ti because the system doesnt play silver bottom games.
edit
ok, this is a trade with framerguy, dont take any of his crap. tell him if he wants to back out of the trade and cancel the trade he needs to compensate you for the shipping

iirc he screwed someone in a secret santa on gametz as well, but dont quote me on that, i dont remember the details and I could very well be mixing him up with someone else.

edit: OK i remember, he sent someone a snes 3rd party controller for a secret santa present(all of the items sent out were supposed to be in the $10 to $20 range.) He probably wont rip anyone off overtly, but be inconsidate and an ass and difficult to deal with. hope it all works out for you.
I bet he tried to adjust it to play PS1 stuff and ended up fucking it up completely and wants to ship it back.
Exactly what I was thinking. Tried to follow the repair faqs, fucked it up and now wants his money back cause he thought he could repair it.

As long as you kept saying it only played DVD-rom games(those are the silver ones), he knew what he was getting when he paid. If he wants to send it back, make him pay shipping and some money for your wasted time mailing it to him. Then leave his ass a neutral for not going through with the offer.

I know USPS sends them for free, I just couldn't wait 7 to 10 days for them to arrive.

And wow, how'd you find out so easily who it was/where? I didn't want to mention his name though..

I like the 'pay shipping for a refund' part... but do NOT send back any money until you get a chance to once over the system and make sure it's in the same shape you mailed it. Do inform him that if he attempted any self-repair of his own and further damaged the unit, you reserve the right to not send the refund (becuase then it's his fault it's not working.)

Attempt to work out a seperate price for the games, and refund less that amount. No more issues there.

At the same time, I'd inform a mod of the situation NOW, in case things go super-sour, and ask a few of his more recent dealers to see if he pulled any odd stuff with them.

It's cause of the post where you mentioned what he was offering. Even I knew from what he was offering a widescreen GBA, Super Mario Bros. 3 & THPS2 that it was Framer.

It's best to contact the mods and send them the messages of him saying it was okay that it was broken.

Unless I'm mistaken the OP has nothing from the other guy to refund as this was a trade, he sent first, and his trading partner decided he didn't like what he got before sending anything back from his end.

Here's what I told him:

"OK, well here's what I think we should do, ordered from what I'd like the most:
1) Send $__ via paypal or M.O (that's $__ off what we agreed)
2) Send some money and rest we trade for difference
3) Send PS2 back, we work out a deal on the games, and you pay some $$ for the hassle/shipping I went through

LMK what you want to do. I think I'm being fair since you were informed of the condition. I'd like to avoid 3 but whatever"

Just curious, how much did you sell the PS2 for?

I think you are being very nice to this guy, I can't say that I would have done the same. I would have told him that a deal is a deal.

Ok, he's sending it back with $15 to compensate. I'm just going to put the PS2 up here on CAG for cheap and hope someone takes it.

i might be interested. does it play blue-bottom discs?

just kidding! ;)

why not trade it into EB Games/Gamestop? They have a promotion where you would get an extra $20 for it. So you would get $70 total for a slim and $65 total for fat PS2.

Granted it's too late now, but I would simply quoted all my previous messages to him where I pointed out that it didn't play blue bottom discs and said... "Ahem, I believe you've read the above mentioned messages previously and agreed to them, therefore give me the money we agreed upon you stoopid twat!"

It's done, I am getting $30 extra ($15 to compensate and another $15 for 2 games), and I have someone that is interested in it, so I guess it's all good now.

Oh well, thx for all the help guys, this thread can be locked now

it is really really easy to find out that sort of thing- i typed in your user name on the gametz search engine(i figured you used the same name there as you did here) and then click on the button "trades" and it shows all of the active and completed trades.
