Will there be huge clearances in a few months?

I haven't been a serious gamer long enough to transition gaming generations. I did have an NES and eventually a Super NES, I remember getting N64 for Christmas once--but I never was really into gaming until PS2 came out.

So anyways, do you guys think there will be some huge game clearances soon? I'm talking current gen stuff (Xbox, GC, PS2). Like I said, I never was a gamer until now, so I figure if there are some big clearances soon I should stock up on current-gen games.

No.

There's ALWAYS a huge clearance somewhere every few months. Whether it's TRU w/ 75% off green-tag games + $10 off coupon, CC w/ $x.96 games, BB w/ the occasional $1.99/4.99 sale, or K-mart with $2 games, there's barely been a period longer than 3-4 months within the last 2 years where there hasn't been a huge clearance on current-gen games.
xbox maybe, but both other systems are completely backwards compatible
PS3 isn't completely backwards compatible, it's software emulation like 360.

Link please...last I heard the PS3 was getting a PS2-on-a-chip, which would mean full backward compatibility.

It may not be completely backwards compatible - PS2 wasn't 100% BC to PS1 - but BC functionality is provided through hardware, not software.

We've already had major sales and clearances at Circuit City, Sears, K-Mart, CompUSA, Gamerush, plus Target has a constantly ongoing clearance. The only major retailer yet to do a blowout is Best Buy. They're going to need Wii and PS3 shelf space just like everyone else...hmm.

Thanks for the uh, rather enlightening quote...

Anyway used game stores like EBGames will most likely keep 1 copy of each game on the shelf and keep the rest of the stock of that title in the back.

doubtful why would there be. they will just send back the stock and most of it will go to wholesale places like overstock. I dont remember a playstation 1 major blow out.

also if it does happen dont expect it to happen till Summer 2007 or even winter 2007. it took at least 6 to 9 months to clear out the Dreamcast stuff after the system was dead

Nah, not necessarily. Most EB and GS locations can just switch around their display models in order to accomodate the majority of their games. In fact, I'm surprised that most don't do so already. My local one could triple their storage space on the shelves by adding just a few more rows and adjusting the boxes. In fact, if they did this with the DVDs it would be far easier to sift through.

I don't imagine that EB/GS, at the least, will be clearancing a wide variety of titles just yet. Perhaps in a year or a year and a half when the library of games for the new systems starts taking up more space, but the aspect of backwards compatibility is an important one. Since EB/GS is the most widespread B&M chain that profits greatly from used games I think they may just stay the course since, hey, if they just drop prices by a few bucks now and again you can get people buying games that are already 3 to 6 years old just because of price.
