TV speakers broken, cheap surround system?

I am getting a free TV from a friend of a friend. The reason he is getting rid of it is because the speakers don't work anymore, he got a new one and just doesn't have the room/time/ambition to sell it or fix it. So I get a free 42 inch TV, but I need to get some kind of sound system thing to get sounds from it.

Can anyone tell me what I need, and give me any links to cheap options?

I got a 5.1 set from WalMart for 40 or so. Just the speakers and sub. Not necessarily good quality, but it's cheap and 5.1.
