I recently saw this on an EB Games sign (paraphrased):
"Why buy used? Used video games are priceless, and when buying from EBgames, used games are 100% guaranteed! Get more bang for your buying smarts!"

A few questions:
What in the hell does this mean?
How exactly are used video games priceless?
Are new games not 100% guaranteed?
What are "buying smarts" and why do I want them to bang?

It means "johnny advertising executive has no idea how to speak to the average EB games customer"
It means "Support our near 100% profit business model. Ignore new games, where we don't make as much selling them"
I'm going to go with both.

How exactly are used video games priceless? They are used and rock
Are new games not 100% guaranteed? No. If it dosnt work after 7 days you are screwed. Used games are guaranteed longer and are obviously going to have scratches on the,
What are "buying smarts" and why do I want them to bang? Because what else are you going to bang?

I'm pretty sure management wanted the sign to read something like this:

"Why buy new? New video games are profitless, and when buying from EBgames, used games are 100% profit! Give us more money for your buying smarts!"
Yeah I think I saw this sign too and thought WTF?
I'm pretty sure WTF came out of my mouth when I saw it too.

I totally understand that EBGameStop is a business and wants the biggest profit possible. Excessive pushing of used games is even sorta cool with me, since it makes them money and also saves less-picky people money. But why isn't there any coherence to this sign? (I didn't transcribe it perfectly, but it's close) There are plenty of decent, sensible arguments they could make in favor of used games without resorting to this sort of doublespeak.

Are you sure it was "priceless" and not "priced less"?

If it really says that, I'd imagine "priced less" has to be what they meant.

Win. I thought this too, but I really want the term used to be "priceless" as it's hilarious to me.

Next time I'm in that area I'll take a picture. While there is a slim chance that I'm wrong, I can almost guarantee that it was the former. Either way, "priced less" would make much more sense.

So my memory was a little faulty - I got the "shopping smarts" part waaay wrong but the priceless part right:

Who the fuck are these generic anime douchebag's they have splattered all over the store now too?

Some kind of mascot?

I'm sick of seeing that one dude with his arm up on every caseless game they have.

It's as if Joanna Dark got described to some 14 year old really into anime and someone then took a colorful shit on a stand. Also, the games they're advertising.... .Hack, Ultimate Spider Man, and all sorts of other mediocre titles that are only worth buying at the magic $10 pricepoint.

that's gotta be the most retarded POS ad I've seen in a while. Way to go, Gamestop. Way to go.

I only like shopping there when I'm raping them with their own coupons on games I know they gave someone twice as much credit for a year ago.
I just really enjoyed the title of the topic, nwaugh. You hooked me with that one.
Thanks neocisco - I'm glad I was able to give back a very small part of the joy you've provided me with awesome CC game clearances.
