It seems my L button for some strange reason has ceased to function. I need to press down EXtremely hard on it in order for it to work and even then it only works 25% of the time. I have never dropped my DS lite once. wierd thing is that it clicks normally like the r button.

Unfortunetly it is a Japnanese one. Do you guys know if nintendo USA will repair it for free if it hasn't been a year yet?

Nope, you're outta luck. Thus the risk of importing (or buying-while-abroad) hardware. You're only chance is to find someone in Japan that could be "home" for your DS and have NCL fix it for you, send it to them, and have them send it back to you. But once you've paid for all that shipping, it'd almost be easier just to get a new DS I'd wager. :p

An eBay auction, with the issue clearly stated, should net you very close to what would get you a new unit. My friend just sold his DS Lite (also an import) with a slightly goofy touch screen for $180 w/ a game.

I had the exact same problem w/ my right shoulder button about two months after I bought it. Something was wrong with the rubber casing, thus causing it to not work. Luckily I found someone in Hong Kong to repair it while I was there but it should be a relatively easy fix.

Consider going to a local computer shop and asking them to take a look?

yeah that's what I figured. Well I put the motions for a warranty repair in place and It seemed my serial # worked but we'll see if they actually send me the shipping label.

I tried registering my DS Lite on the Nintendo Website but it wouldn't recognize it - so it's a crap shot. Good luck!

well weird, so far i've gotten up to the point where they've sent me a label so everything looks legit so far. also the invoice says no charge. I sure hope they don't get it and suddenly say I have to pay for it to get repaired. =(

Oh well here we go D:!

...how certain are you that you have a Japanese DS? As Ecofreak pointed out, US and Japanese systems have different serial numbers. The fact that you said your serial number was accepted seems to indicate that you have a US system.

well I bought it in Japan, it had japanese packaging and it's a Dark blue DS color which is only sold in Japan.

He tried to register his DS so maybe that's different than requesting an RMA repair. dunno o_O. I just hope they don't call me and suddnely say I need to pay.

Very odd. I've known several people that have tried to get NOA to honor NOJ's warranty with no one having any luck. If you got this far I think you'll be okay with the rest of the process. They do usually sell imported Nintedo hardware at the Nintendo World (or whatever it's called) shop in New York.

oh wow, lucky then. I just got a call from nintendo in my messagebox and I was worried, but they simply asked me what color I wanted to replace it with, so i'm just gonna call back. Looks like it's all good :D! horray
