Sudden bannings

I've noticed a handful of permanent bans seemed to have happened today and/or last night.  Not really sure why these happened, and some of the people that were banned are people I'm friends with, specifically in the GGT (although I've noticed this in other threads such as the Amazon Warehouse Deals thread as well).  Indignate is one such member, and he tells me that he doesn't know why he was banned.

I've noticed that plenty of other members are confused about these bans, so I was wondering if a mod could give some input as to what's going on? 

 
All those users were banned by a single mod, and we're in the process of figuring out why. Will have an answer for you soon.

 
A mod's account was compromised, and the person who got hold of the account did all the bannings. Working on reversing them now, but I have to do each one manually - it'll probably take an hour or two.

They banned that many people? God damn.

 
Damn - I figured something like that might have happened. I know a few people who need to get banned in response (as they are gloating in various threads about it). There is no way that many regulars (or even one, really) would be banned without discussion about it amongst the mods.

Ok, I think that's the last of them unbanned. Let me know if you come across anyone I've missed. 

 
Thanks for the topic and fixing the problem quickly.  I thought something was wrong with the site because if I hadn't been banned before, I wouldn't be now. :lol:

 
Curious - was anything done linking back to someone regarding who hacked the account?

The list of individuals affected is too coincidental to be random and a handful of comments made in a couple of post just seemed... odd.
