Valve conducts Half-Life 2 survey
Steam queries more than half a million users about their hardware configurations to "tune" its upcoming shooter.
Over the weekend, Counter-Strike players who logged onto Valve's Steam Web sites were asked to participate in a hardware survey. The survey was nothing out of the ordinary. It asked the approximately 520,000 respondents about their connection speed (most had 256 to 1,024Kbps), RAM (the majority had 256Mb to 512MB), CPU (over 60 percent fell between 1.5 and 2.7GHz), graphics chipset (the Nvidia GeForce4 MX series came out on top--barely), and other hardware configurations. However, the purpose of the survey was worth noting: It was being conducted to "tune the performance of Half-Life 2," according to Steam.
