Minimum PC specs are also listed. If you want to run the game, you'll need: Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7 (32/64-bit), a 2GHz Processor or faster, 1GB RAM and a DirectX 9-compatible graphic card.
We first reported this as a rumour a few weeks ago - additional information gleaned at the time suggested that the game would retail for around £7.99 (about $12).
The announcement trailer, below, suggests that this is a straight re-release, not an HD remake. A version of Final Fantasy VII was previously released on PC by Eidos in 1998.
UPDATE: IGN has contacted Square Enix and has gotten a clearer picture of the extent of the upgrade done on this game. The new Final Fantasy for PC release is based on the same PC port previously released, but features up-res detail of the character and monster models in the fight sequences and in in-game cut-scenes. Rendered elements such as backgrounds and CG movies will be the same as in previous releases of FF VII.No specific release date is mentioned; it's simply listed as 'Coming Soon'. You can take a look at artwork and character profiles on the official site here, if you like.
