Star Wars intellectual property will never make its way to Warner Bros. toy-to-life title LEGO Dimensions, Disney vice president of production John Vignocchi told IGN in an interview at E3 2015.
“Don’t count on it,” Vignocchi responded when asked if Star Wars will ever come to Lego Dimensions. He explained that introducing Star Wars to LEGO Dimensions would cannibalize the Disney Infinity business. Good for everyone except Disney Infinity.
Vignocchi added that Disney Infinity is truer to the filmmakers’ vision (at least in the playsets), the licensees don’t want franchises mixing together, which is the whole point of LEGO Dimensions (and the toy box mode in Disney Infinity).
LEGO Dimensions will offer a number of sets based on well-known franchises when it launches in September, such as The Simpsons, Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, Portal, Jurassic World, Midway Arcade, Scooby-Doo, DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, The LEGO Movie, The Wizard of Oz, LEGO Ninjago and Back to the Future.
Star Wars support for Disney’s upcoming toy-to-life game Disney Infinity 3.0 was announced back in May, and will feature characters from the Star Wars Rebels television series.
Disney yesterday announced that a limited edition Star Wars Saga Starter Pack featuring Boba Fett is coming exclusively to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. Sony’s platforms will also get Star War Rise Against the Empire Play Set nearly a month before other platforms.Be sure to stay tuned IGN's E3 Hub for all Disney infinity 3.0, Star Wars and E3 news.
