NFC Figures
Pokemon Rumble U was released alongside 18 different NFC (Near Field Communication) Figures . These figures are available in capsules at participating GameStop stores for $3.99 each.
These figures are optional, and are able to store in-game data on a chip inside the toy. Simply place one of the NFC figurines on the square symbol on the Wii U Game Pad (left side) to read the data -- and later place it again to save the data on the figure. The data that can be saved includes coins to power up the Pokemon, move set changes, and new traits. They can then be taken to a friend's house and used on their Pokemon Rumble U game with the same info.

It is unclear how many Shiny versions of the toys there are in Pokemon Rumble U, but it's likely there is at least one shiny version per box of NFC Figures (18 per box).
