Let's be honest here, nobody is buying this for the original game itself. Cubic Ninja is just... well, it's terrible. I mean, my god. It's SO bad. If you happen to pick up a copy of this, set yourself the challenge of playing it for 15 minutes when you first get it. You probably won't last.

But, yeah, the mods you can perform with this game work, and they're really straightforward. You just open the custom level editor, generate a QR code for your 3DS from smealum's site, scan that "level" code with your 3DS, and all of a sudden, there's a whole new world of content this game lets you access. I mean seriously, the new potential of your 3DS is just staggering. Just be aware that it will only work with certain firmware versions, so check the Ninjhax site to make sure your 3DS is on the right version.

Worth every cent.

Very Basic, Not Much Fun, Decent Graphics

The screenshots looked promising, but the short level boards and mini-missions just fail for me. Basically, you start each "level" with Cubic Ninja popping out one door with this mission to exit another door, usually the opposite end of the board. These boards do get progressively harder, though not by too much. And they are all fairly short, think 10-30 seconds each. There are goodies to grab alon the way, and as you move through these rooms, spikes and dropping boulders and falling walls and platforms to avoid. *yawn* It's been done before. All of it. But, you know, better. In Mario, Donkey Kong and the attack of the Mini's, Sonic the Hedgehog, etc., etc., etc., The list can go on forever. But sadly, we get this little carbon copy Cubic Ninja. He could have BEEN something. Really. Instead, he's just this sad little square getting sucked into holes as he hurries to grab goodies an avoid spikes. *yawn* Oh, and you can build your own boards as you progress, you know, with the stuff you pass along the way. I guess for some people that makes it more exciting. Minecraft anyone? *yawn* I can't flat out say I dislike this game though, it's just too short and simple for me. But that is the appeal for the younger crowd, and my 6 year old does love it. And Cubic Ninja himself, well he's cute. The graphics have a certain, weird appeal. So, while I don't LIKE it persay, I definitly can't say I dislike it either. It's just OK. So I gave it 3 stars. Would I recommend it? No. Is it worth the $10 or whatever I paid for it? meh. Not for ME. But for my 6 year old? Definitly. If you're buying this for the 8 and under crowd, it's a decent purchase. Unless of course, they are already filling up on the likes of Assassin's Creed and the sort. My little princess plays Mario and Disney games and the occassional fighting game with us so she thinks its fun... for now. But even she will probably be bored sooner than later. Truly you are better off buying a better game or waiting for this to hit the real clearance rack!

Playing in 3D Mode (Circle Pad Mode ON)

The first thing I did was go to Options and select Circle Pad Mode (which was set to OFF) and turn it ON.

Note that you cannot play with the Motion Sensors, but you get to play the entire game in 3D in exchange and you will be just using the Circle Pad & X button.

The 3D doesn't look that good in the first few levels, but gets more better later on, but the cinematics have a pretty weak 3D effect also.

Some levels will be challenging, but if you want a real challenge.....well that's what the Boss Battles are for.

And you have 4 extra buttons on the Touch Screen which will get a 5th Button if you die 5 times in the Level to increase your amount of Ninja Scrolls to do Special Ninja abilities to help you beat the game.

Long story short, this game is worth around $10.

CONS:

The Frame Rate drops every here & there in the 4th stage (Levels 61 to 80) with the 3D ON (Circle Pad Mode ON), but this is fix with a Wireless Update to the 3DS, if you have Firmware 4.2.0-9U, but if you have 4.3.0-10U then you will have a drop in Frame Rate.....until they fix it again with Future Wireless Updates to the Nintendo 3DS.

TIPS:

Some of the best characters to use are CC & The yellow rubber guy & Muss-L & Feme-9 & Neme-something (the iron ninja) & sometimes Fros-T.
