Last year, I fell waaaaaay short of the 35 "games completed" total that I wanted to hit for a plethora of reasons. I will likely be strapped for free time all year, but I plan on making a more concerted effort to take out my backlog. I'm going for 25 games.

February

No More Heroes (2/27/09) - I beat my first Wii game! Extremely fun and stylish title from Grasshopper Manufacture. Loved the fighting mechanic and the over the top story. The overworld was kind of bland and the graphics were a little sharp/jaggy. These minor gripes don't temper my enthusiasm for the sequel. I hope it improves upon an already great game.

Soul Bubbles (3/18/09) - This is now my second favorite DS game, which places it just behind Kirby Canvas Curse. This is a criminally overlooked game that people need to play! It delivers in all aspects (music, atmosphere, level design, control, challenge). Just plain fun.

Chrono Trigger (3/26/09) - I remember first hearing about the glorious nature of Chrono Trigger on my grade school playground around 5th or 6th grade. I'm not sure that I even owned a Super Nintendo at that point, but I really wanted to play it. I couldn't afford it and for some reason I never asked for it as a gift. In the years following that initial hype job, my interest in video games has gone through a normal cycle of ebb and flow, but I've always wanted to get my hands on Chrono Trigger. Major props go out to Square Enix for (finally) putting out an enhanced version of the title that is also affordable AND portable!

I put over 40 hours into the game. Completed all the new content and opened three of the thirteen endings. I did this all within a six/seven day stretch. I really enjoyed the game and definitely will go back to it again in the future.

April

Link's Crossbow Training (4/19/09) - Fun game that utilizes the Zapper well. I love playing through games and beating high scores. I've already spent a good bit of time trying to top my point totals again and again. I've gotten platinum and gold medals in each stage so far -- gonna keep going until I get platinum medals for all of them.


Retro Game Challenge (4/25/09) - A really novel concept with excellent recreations of NES/Famicom games. My two favorites were Star Prince and Robot Ninja Haggle Man 3. Loved it -- hope the sequel gets localized for release in the U.S.

Kirby Super Star Ultra (5/8/09) - This was a little disappointing. I had been looking forward to playing the game for a long time and the only aspect of it that I really enjoyed was 'The Great Cave Offensive'. Oh well.

Super Smash Bros. Melee (5/24/09) - In an effort to brush up before starting Super Smash Bros. Brawl, I went back to my SSBM save file and finally unlocked everything (after owning the game for six years). As far as I know, I'm only missing 9 trophies -- which I might or might not try to get over the next few months.
