Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

When it comes to games w/ often awesome cutting-edge technical graphics/game engines & great shooting mechanics - Crytek does it for me.

Now, if only they could get better actual writing & dialogue, I'd actually be MUCH happier w/ them.

You know, that sounds very familiar to another company I love - Id Software.
i can finish my crysis collection why u dod this tony why u why aka damn u tony im not wasitng money

Hell yes @ Crysis 3 + ALL DLC for $13!

That's what I'm talking about! :D

This has NOT been that cheap just for the Crysis 3 base-game alone, nevermind that you're even wanting to include ALL of the DLC.

This is the kind of trend-setting, ground-breaking and earth-shattering sales on AAA titles that I like to see from Amazon DVG!
Easy there MysterD, don't want you to fall out of your chair from excitement ;)

Regarding Crysis 3: I'm not sure I could be less interested after Crysis 2. I found it rather awful to be honest, pretty sure, but shallow and annoying. I haven't heard anything better about 3, if anything it's gotten less amazing reviews and word of mouth. But to each their own, you can enjoy your AAA eye candy, and I can go back to my grandma games (as Motoki would say) ^_~

Not sure if you saw this, but this was the post from Tony that's Halloween-themed...

...but most of that stuff's already in progress and on sale.

But, yeah - I hope they come up w/ more than that for Halloween - or even drop more Halloween-deals on Halloween (10-31).
Regarding the sale...what are the thoughts on VtM:Bloodlines? I've been watching gameplay videos and it's looking like combat is an extreme minimal, and even then the combat looks pretty poor. Is it just a walk around and talk to people kind of game? :(

It's an RPG. There can be more combat or less combat depending on what you choose at various points in the game. There's also a load more combat later on (too much for my liking), but it's never going to feel superb or be as frequent as an FPS or hack-and-slash - it's just not that kind of game.

If you don't care about story, and just want to shoot, stab, or slash at things, VTM isn't for you. If you're far more interested in the story and lore than in the action, it should serve pretty well.

Lol, I love this thread.

FYI next round of voting is up for a weekend deal.

Yes, I know many of you got Dead Space 3 in the Humble Bundle, one of the things we're trying to gauge is how that deal affects our future deals moving forward for Non-Cags :).

Not sure if it's for you - but it is one of my Top 10 games of all time.

Please read on - if you want to see if it's your cup of tea.

V:TM-B came out when mixing RPG & FPS elements was still somewhat relatively new. The combat here leans WAY more on the RPG-side. This is NOT a FPS - do not expect Halo combat, FEAR combat, or anything like that. It's a bit clunky - b/c it relies so heavily on your skills. If anything, combat here feels more, in a sense, like Deus Ex 1. You really do need to pump skills in your Firearms skills, if you want to actually hit the enemy, do more damage, be more accurate, and make better shots - and you want to stick with your Guns.

If you're not into shooting stuff - honestly, you'd be better off sinking points into Melee combat. I think Melee combat in this game always felt much smoother, much better, and much easier to learn - at least compared to shooting.

By the last 1/3rd of the game, the game does take a drastic turn when you have to make a major decision on where you stand in the conflicts. By then, I do hope you pumped skills into some sort of action skills - b/c the game does get more action-y by then.

A good portion of the game, sure - you can do plenty of talking and get yourself out of situations w/out much combat.

The game's story, lore, dialogue, writing, voice-acting, plot-twists, atmosphere, game-world, choice of licensed music, and its original score from Womb Music - this is what the game shines at and puts many other games to absolute shame, even still to this very day.

Granted, this game is old - so, don't expect the best graphics in the planet. When it came out - sure, it was on Source Engine when that was new and was one of the best looking games during its time. Wasn't always the best running game, back then. Runs much better now, though. So, make sure you use the Widescreen Res' Program and bump it up, if you need to - if you do decide to buy the game and want it to look more on modern, if you have a very nice modern rig. You're likely going to either get Wesp's Unofficial Patch or Tessmage's True Patch to get it running - especially on modern OS's & hardware.

btw - since you've got the devs' ears (tails?) and nov/dec sales are coming again any chance you guys will be updating the download page?

some suggestions:

  • a way to search our library - paging through things to find a game is all a guess work
  • anyway to filter by type of game? say steam/origin/amazon - this way we could find games we have to download from amazon fast.
  • more on filters, how about showing claimed/unclaimed keys
  • better way to handle dlcs - either let us hide them or group them with the game and have them as something we can unhide - some of the games have dozens of dlcs taking up pages and somtimes spread across diff pages.
  • minimally, if the team can at least make the paging system a bit more user friendly. use the same page number size and navigation as rest of amazon - right now it's tiny little numbers that are hard to tell which is the current page, and make paging a bit faster - maybe let us choose larger number of games per page?

anyone else have any ideas on the download page?

thanks
Tony,

I just wanted to add to this if you are still taking feedback. I'd like my Video Games and Software library to look more like my music library. A lot of the above ideas naturally flow into this idea.

Tony or anyone who knows:

Are things like this Origin codes? When does the Sims stuff go off sale?
Any "PC Instant Access" title is going to require you to link your Amazon account directly to your Origin account. This version will give you a key that you manually enter into Origin, but even though it says DRM: Origin, you might not need it. I purchased Supernatural from Amazon earlier and it shows up in my library as a title I can download directly from Amazon.

Registering any Sims 3 key on the official Sims site will also automatically add that title to your Origin account. I'm don't think Origin is actually required to run any Sims 3 title, since that game uses its own launcher.

@Tony: The Doctor Who games by Legacy Games just got Greenlit on Steam.

Is there any way you can work with Legacy Games to get Steam keys for existing owners of those games on Amazon?

The Steam release is going to be all 5 games in one pack which makes things a little thorny for giving out keys to existing owners however those of us who bought the Legacy Interactive Bundle a while back from Amazon got all 5 of those Doctor Who games plus some others so we already got them packaged together anyhow.

PS - I want Grandma's Kitchen 3.

Seriously.

I do.

FYI, we're currently running $10 off NBA 2K14:

Since this thread isn't exactly hopping and Tony had posted shortly thereafter about other stuff I'll take that lack of answer as a no.

Disappointing but rather what I expected.

Someone else mentioned that it delivers a steam key, but the store page makes no mention of it. Do you happen to know if it does or not?
A lot of people confirmed that they got a Steam key through email when buying it from Uplay. They are also able to obtain the steam key going through the Uplay client, which isn't necessary.

Anyone know what features were taken out of the pc version of 2k14?

I can't find any info on it.

Heck, I'd just like to see this bundle go on sale again for a discounted price. As it stands it's pretty silly that the bundle costs more than the games do individually.

Oh sorry, I don't have an answer yet and was waiting to get one.

Answer: I don't have an answer yet but have asked.

Will the deal on BF be at least equally as good as the one from Ubisoft? And not a bundle deal?
Sorry just actually clicked through to the link. Negative, our deal is currently 50% off, I've reached out to Square about getting a better deal now that I've seen this, but if you want the game at $3, get it from Ubisoft, I have nothing confirmed right now for a lower price.

Cheers,

Tony

Thanks. I'll grab one now and another on BF from Amazon for a friend.

Tony,

I'm sure you don't have enough stuff to work on for Black Friday yet, so how about a $5 deal for this?

http://www.amazon.com/Disney-Mickeys-Typing-Adventure-Download/dp/B00ADQRISI

Price tracker says the sale prices have dropped from $12 to $10 to $8 so far in 2013, and I'm willing to skip the $6 price point and go a dollar better. What do you say?
Lol not sure if serious.

I can ask the software team about it if you think it will actually sell at that pricepoint though lol.

Cheers,

Tony

Tony, any chance or way you could export an Excel list or something for all the games from the Steam sale that are available on Amazon and are (about to get) price matched? I'd rather leave my money on Amazon, but going through the games one by one to see which ones are actually available there kinda puts me off.  :whistle2:k

Tony, if you can get dark souls at 5 bucks for black friday-ish timeframe I'd be allllll over it. Thanks for taking the time to answer q's and shizz here.
