Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

I feel that it's more like 50% off is the usual minimum price break we'll accept if we want to play it right away. We'll pay 50% off if we want it bad enough. Only chumps pay full MSRP.

Remember how popular the Borderlands 2 pre-orders were at ~50% off (included Mechromancer pack)?
Yeah, maybe I should have added "for games/DLC that old."

I think you might be using a nonstandard definition for the phrase "Full Priced":

Also, as noted previously in the thread, we've ordered more keys for Dragonborn, we expect to have the product back up this afternoon.

Cheers,

Tony
Anything better planned for Dawnguard and Hearthfire soon?

If the newest Dragonborn DLC is 75% off, what about the other 2 older DLC's going for 75% off a piece?

{eyebrow raised}

EDIT:

Actually, make it 80% off - you guys charge tax now. ;)

^ Picture of the ad scan. I'm pretty sure this will exclude the Zelda bundle but WILL include the M&L Dream Team bundle.
Yeah, the ad scan has been available at certain sites for awhile, but I think it's a no no here (could be wrong). I had mentioned before that the only thing the ad mentions is the $199 MSRP which would qualify the M&L, but no Zelda. However, with Target, I would not be shocked if Zelda works too (if you can still find it).

Speaking of the 2k credit from BS:I, can we use it on Minerva's Den for BioShock 2? (sadly registering a BS2 key from Amazon no longer automatically gets Minerva's Den on Steam)
That update was supposed to be applied to every Bioshock 1 and 2 game on Steam automatically. It was a separate update (that happened automatically) Bio 1 got the Challenge Maps, Bio 2 got all updates including Protector Trials and Minerva's Den. Delete the game from your HD and force it to reinstall through Steam to get the updates, and then they should appear in the DLC tab for the game. http://store.steampowered.com/news/externalpost/pcgamer/1459455885339472166

Well Dragonborn "technically" isn't 75% off since it's not really available. Looks like it was just a VERY limited number that was available at that price. If they really want to eff with people, they should list the price at 90% off... still unavailable of course.

I don't know a lot about Skyrim but from what I've heard, a Hearthfire/Dawnguard bundle would be appropriate since Hearthfire is supposed to be easily replaced with a few mods.

I bought Dragonborn ASAP yesterday at 75% off - had to have it at that price & got it.

Even though, there was tax involved.

Oh, I certainly could get down a/ a Hearthfire/Dawnguard bundle for 75% off or better. Preferably better, since tax has been added. ;)

EDIT:

Amazon doesn't charge sales tax, your state does.
Bleh.

Bought!

$2 for Declassified seems like a real deal. I own pretty much every 2k game you guys carry, so I guess now's as good a time as any to burn up that credit!
We need to come up w/ a list of games + All of their DLC (if possible) that we think should be $2 and see if Tony's crazy enough to request these:

Aliens: CM

The Bureau: XCOM Declassifed

Anything else? ;)

EDIT:

Hell, if companies won't toss in ALL DLC, Tony could maybe also request a Season Pass and/or ALL DLC Pack for those games also at like $2. ;)

I had the same thoughts about Hearthfire initially, but one thing to consider regarding mods is that some mods use assets from all the DLC. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I know some of the mods I have installed require it and/or all the DLC. I actually like some of the houses you can build with Hearthfire anyway.

Amen - I want all BethSoft games' DLC b/c in the end, it'll be worth it in the long-run b/c of the mods!

Same applies for FO:NV - you need ALL DLC to do JE Sawyer's HardCore Difficulty Mod.

Oh, I meant that I had purchased and registered BS2 just a couple weeks ago, well after the changeover from GFWL to SteamWorks where 2k announced that existing owners would get Minerva's Den for free.

It was available for the better part of yesterday... not as limited as you think.

Ill be shocked if you guys can find the Zelda Edition, all my Bestbuys and Targets are completely sold out. They arent coming back either, the Mario & Luigi Limited Edition replaced it.

agggh what is it?!?
Yeah no joke. I literally have spent 2 hours on this. I went through wiki's list of game release dates, then compared them to games screenshots on Amazon's pages for those games, ignoring any game that was already $5 off at amazon. With Tony saying the game was already $5 off, I redid the look through, this time using the price restricter ($4.99 to $4.99) and then sorting by release date. then I realized he said the screenshot we were looking for was on the game's website, not specifically on Amazon's page for it.................so I did it a third freakin time with no luck. To whoever finds this Easter egg, it's well earned. I just want Dragonborn to come back on sale before I have to go to sleep for work tomorrow and I'll be OK.

Was Call of Cthulhu on sale with the other Bethesda promotions?  I think I saw a post where someone mentioned it to Tony but he didn't have the keys yet or something.  Other than that I have no clue.

It was. I don't think Tony would hype that up when it's been $5 before.

Is it... KINGDOMS OF AMALUR STEAM EDITION OMG.  Yeah, yeah 2004-2008.  Looked through the $5 games, didn't really notice anything that jumped out.

Fallout 3 is my guess, because at this point I give up.

edit: I sorted PC game downloads, 4.99-5, 10%+ discount, then by release date and checked everything in that range.

edit2: And most of the game websites I checked, lordy, flash overload, sound overload, obnoxious overload. Going to half their website made me not want to even buy their game!

I spent a good hour trying to find it lol.  Let's do another one :)

Also, what was the Black Friday Amazon Credit with purchasing the year of PS Plus?  It said I was going to get a $5 credit, but I never got an email or anything.  It's still a good deal at $30, was just wondering what the credit was supposed to be?

OMG guys its battlefield 2142 - not that hard.
Hahahah, oh man, Amazon's search and listings, such a fail. I missed this at the bottom of the page:

This search may have been filtered to remove less relevant results.
Click here to include these items in your results.
Of course when I click that, Battlefield shows up, haha, wow. Maybe whoever came up with the search parameters and linkings didn't like EA?

Doesn't there need to be another 2038 battlefields before they reach battlefield 2142?

Here you go, this is taken from another $5 game's screenshots (on Amazon). Maybe it's an easy one, but at least the pic is, ahem, easier to look at this time ;)

I think this is what Mooby was thinking of when he said Call of Cthulhu
