 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/movies-tv/2959127011/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_mov_1_3_last   (Blu Ray)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.dvdplanet.com/Pages/Search/Category.aspx?ec=42000

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cfm

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

im sorry that wasnt my intention the uk sets are very nice and i like the vhs style digi book look
Oh, no worries. I just wanted to make sure people knew what the Bebop sets were like in case they were on the fence. Especially since the UK packaging of the various Aniplex sets are rather humdrum; especially the Madman sets. Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari have disc art including things like a shot of someone from neck to waist, and another with the top of someones's head stuck over in the corner of doorways(?). The inserts look like something put together by a bootlegger as well.

I am not a big E7 fan and even I thought it was complete crap.
Looked into it some more, and it seems that almost everyone says to stay away from the movie. Took the movie out of my order, but I'm still keeping the series in my order, hopefully I will enjoy it! Seems to be a hit or miss with some people I suppose.

For some reason I have a feeling that I would be one of those people. Can't say for sure though!
I liked Cowboy Bebop, but I guess I'll be one of the few that feels it's overrated. If I had seen it before all the other anime I watched, I may have had a different view.

Most of the people calling it the greatest ever are those people who first watched it over a decade ago on Adult Swim. It was, especially at that time, unlike anything else on TV. Remember, when Bebop first aired, we had no One Piece, no Rurouni Kenshin, no Full Metal Panic, no Fullmetal Alchemist, no Deadman Wonderland, and certainly nothing seinan. The most mature cartoon airing at the time was Gundam Wing. And surrounding Bebop were Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law. Bebop really stood out. Even made it to Conan one time.

My ears are burning...Was some one talking about Bebop? It's one of the best series of all time, especially if you saw it when it was released. There really was no other Anime that I can think of that had ever been like that. The soundtrack and the overall style were unique (the setting was new too, though Outlaw Star was released slightly earlier -though they were the same studio doing it).

I can understand people not thinking it was amazing because I felt that way about Evangeleon. To me even when it was released it was overrated, but some people love it. I know this is an apples to oranges comparison, but Evangelon and Bebop are the Citizen Kane and Casablanca of anime. They are well done and important for the genre, but it may not be as apparent today if you saw something newer.

I prefer Rahxephon to Evangeleon, but again Rahxephon wouldn't exist if Evangeleon wasn't made. (I hope that post made sense, I can't type as fast as I can think.)

I watched Cowboy Bebop for Steven Blum. Its good, just overrated.
I learned something new today. I always thought the voice of Spike was named David something...I always assumed it was David Hayter that did Snake from metal gear. IDK how I was so far off.

I can't sing of a single piece of media, anime or not, which is highly touted and yet is not considered "overrated" by those who went in thinking it would let them walk on water instead of just experiencing it without mammoth expectations.  I'm sure some people think Totoro has too little action, and Grave of the Fireflies is too depressing, that Nausicaa and Akira are pale adaptations of much more fleshed out manga... they'd probably be right, but still.

The name you're thinking of is David Lucas. It's an alias that Steve Blum went by for some of his early anime work.

So i just got Another blueray in the mail and notice the back says its only 2.0 audio on both tracks :(
I believe the reason for this is to dissuade the hardcore otaku in Japan from importing it, as they wouldn't accept anything less than 5.1 audio. I might be wrong, though...

Back in the good old days, some companies would use the union LA studios, some would use non-union. So that people get more work, those who belong to unions used aliases in order to do non-union work. The most popular was Steven Blum's alias of David Lucas, mainly because he kept denying he was DL to keep getting work.

Other popular union aliases were Wendee Swan (Wendee Lee), Robert Wicks (Bob Buckholz), Steve Cannon (Steve Staley), David Umansky (Derek Stephen Prince), Ruby Marlowe (Bridget Hoffman), and Dorothy Melendrez (Dorothy Fahn)

It's not really RightStuf's fault. Their studio sales are always 40% off and Sentai's stuff is so high that even with 40% off it still seems too much. Hence why stores keep marking down Sentai's stuff 50-60% off.

I would have liked Bebop more if Edward wasn't there. She (not a typo) was annoying.

I heard a company called Sentai is releasing more Lupin the Third DVD's. Have any of you checked them out ?

Ed is awesome. She is Yoko Kanno in anime form, except a master of computers instead of music.

Sentai doesn't have Lupin's license, Discotek does.

I assume he means in a nice LE box or something. My guess it will end up like the Eureka 7 BD's unless they decide to do something special for Cowboy Bebop due to its popularity.
What would be grand if they offered an iTunes digital copy instead of the discs. I'm tired of storing these discs, organizing them, having them taking up space.

WTF, why was my Btooom! canceled then?
Maybe he stole the last copy? And don't feel bad I've been burned with random cancellations by BB several times within the past two or so years. They do a terrible job in keeping up on what is/isn't in stock.

the humanity has declined blu ray came in a few weeks ago. finally watched it. I must say this was one of the more hilarious, sick, demented, and WTF shows Ive seen in recent years. quite good. I recommend it unless of course everyone here is copying squarehards harem obsession.

Today's the overlap day for Right Stuf's studio sales.  This time it's Funimation and Kodansha (which means lots of Fairy Tail across both media for me).

It was tough, but I had to go with the regular versions of Robotics;Notes 1 and Psycho-Pass 1+2 at Amzon instead of the LE sets at Right Stuf.  The extras simply are not worth the additional $18 and $26 respectively.

I really wanted to watch Robotics; Notes when I thought it was just an anime about kids in a club trying to make a robot.  When I found out about the crazy crossplot  junk, I was kind of turned off.  OH MY GOD, FUSHIGI YUGI IS ON SALE BLAEFBASDLJFDSAFDSAV!  (btw, I'm about that show the way Kirin is about Utena, and to a lesser extent about Princess tutu, and that other guy is about Noein.  If it wasn't Noein, sorry, my memory is bad)

I wish you hadn't said that, I assumed it was just an anime about kids in a Giant Robot building club.

Uh, pardon me for sounding totally ignorant, but is there anything wrong with "crossplot junk"? I'm still intrigued by Robotics;Notes... :???:

Hey, can i get some's opinion here. Do you think at this price ^ 3/4 of gundam 00 S2 is worth it?

yeah, i don't have P.4, that's one of the reasons why i'm so hesitant to pull the trigger.
Finding Part IV for cheap or a good price will take a lot of luck. Unless you believe Part IV will come your way eventually.

Otherwise,I recommend Ebay; I've seen S2 go for $30-40 depending if the Bidders are paying attention.

Well, it kind of is at first, but then it turns into something substantially more dramatic, which I didn't think was a bad thing. I find a lot of the slice of life shows to be bleh. Then again I am loving Golden Time and Nagi no Asukara in the current season, so I guess I'm just picky.

so i just got another shipment from amazon.

kids on the slope

after looking at the backs they all are only dts 2.0 audio.

it kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth paying all that for these blue rays and they cant give 5.1 audio.

is this how most anime are now a days?

Sadly, its a limitation place on R1 market by the Japanese because of reverse importation fears. To deter Japanese fans from buying the cheaper US version.

Hey, it's better than DBZ. The Dragon Boxes are the only release to have the Japanese version in anything other than mono.

Huh, I guess I always just assumed that surround sound wasn't as big a deal overseas as it is in the US.  Although given the choice between buying a $400 set locally or (reverse) importing a $40 set, you'd have to be a fool to let stereo sound be a dealbreaker.

In regards to those UK Gurren Lagann sets I mentioned earlier, there's still no images but there's at least a description as to what is different between the two sets.  The regular one is just the TV series, the Ultimate has "Parallel Works, OVA Ep.5.5 My Gurren is Shiny!! (included in DS Game Soft Gurren Lagann ), SAZIGEN 3DCG Test Animation Footage, TV Textless Openings and Endings,"

I think I'd be happier with the $65.

I've never heard of this before. Are you sure that the releases in Japan have anything but 2.0 tracks (especially for TV shows)? I know that companies like Funimation like to make 5.1 dub tracks, but really that's up to them, I doubt people would be happy if they messed with the original Japanese track to try to "enhance" it.
