The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

Add me to the list of people who got the NISA bug this year. I've already purchased DanganRonpa, Ys: Memories of Celceta, and pre-ordered The Witch and the Hundred Knight. That's not counting the other 4 NIS titles I had to catch up on. I'll, no doubt, be ordering Mugen Souls Z, the rereleases of Hyperdimension Neptunia, and Fairy Fencer F when available.
I can't seem to shake the bug for several years now, well except when mugen souls came out. it went away for a while lol

fairy fencer looks alot like arc the lad 4 so I'm mildly interested in it since its ps3. my only issue is the moving character portraits. while they aren't as obnoxious as stuff like trinity universe its still a flaw that really hurts the game for me since all that unnecessary movement hurts my eyes.

Yup, I even picked up used-but-like-new copies of the first 2 Hyperdimension Neptunia games this week, then I grabbed the CE of the 3rd one off of ebay. Help me! :p

That's funny, so did I. The little lunch box with a smaller lunch box. Hyperdimension Neptunia MK2 was also the first game I've ever platinumed. I'm still waiting for the Vita port of the first game since most people agree it was terrible on PS3.

I've heard that too about the first one, but given its condition where I grabbed it as well as my insane need to own every JRPG for the PS3, I grabbed it.  :p  If they announce the Vita version for the US, I'm sure I'll get that & play that one.

Update, got my Braverly and it is damaged. Someone grabbed it and squeezed the top, so it is pinched on the top/back. It isn't terrible, but they really shouldn't ship these things in a bubble mailer.

Did you order from Amazon?

I was amazed that my order from Amazon arrived in a box today, in a plastic bag and plenty of air packets.

I'm glad i'm not the only one that wants Mugen Souls Z. It looks cleaner than the first at least and for what I played it wasn't terrible. I may go back to Mugen Souls next after finishing Zelda 3DS and Bravely Default and Danganronpa. Also have Toukiden i'm playing but I don't ever go crazy in these games.

Yes amazon...and I have done the packaging feedback at least 4 times in the past. plastic bag in a bubble mailer. It wasn't as bad as the one that people added to the listing on amazon, but it is still annoying.

I also received my Bravely Default CE that I ordered from Amazon today and it came in a box and a bag like yours....except it had no packing materials so the bottom of the case is crushed from it smacking the bottom of the box.

Amazon you got so close! Boxed and bagged, 90% of the way there and you still fucked it up.

Guess I'll join the group complaining to these morons. At least I have 2 mint copies...

3 copies, damn. I couldn't manage to get even one.

Anyways, USPS is REALLY taking it slow with the Danganronpa. 2 days past the expected delivery and it's still in Texas.

I accidentally wound up with 3. Went to Best Buy after having ordered in on release day from that Amazon restock, didn't think they would come through and I got the last one at BB. I had mentioned something to my dad to check in the city where he works and while I was looking for mine, he found one as well.

Works out well, my gf gets one, I get one, and one got sold.

I don't think i've had this many pre-orders going at once.

Darksouls 2 CE

Darksouls 2 Guide

Drakengard 3

Atelier: Escha & Logy

Witch Of The Hundred Knight

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles

Thanks for the videos YBX87. Battle Arcadias reminds me of Odin Sphere, but stiffer and less polished. Like an indie attempt at the same type of game. Might still be worth it on sale though *shrug*

I presume NISA will make a CE for Danganronpa 2, so I'll definitely pre-ordering that since I missed the one for the first game. A bundle with the first game would be great too since I'll probably wait for it to go on sale otherwise, though I'd be surprised if they did that.

I don't understand how people put their vita cable in backwards. I mean if you have to force it in then that should be a giveaway. Also my cable even has an arrow on the front.

Mine slides right in upside down.

Just got this email. Kinda pissed, it's super shitty:

"Tales of Symphonia Chronicles - Playstation 3"

Estimated arrival date: March 03, 2014 - March 07, 2014

I don't understand how people put their vita cable in backwards. I mean if you have to force it in then that should be a giveaway. Also my cable even has an arrow on the front.
This was actually a very common problem early on. Several peoples cables can fit in either way, so they had no way to tell it wasn't right. Of course there is arrow or whatever is on it, but I never had the problem personally. Mine would only ever go in one way, so if it didn't go one way, I would flip it. The slim no longer has this issue(Thank GOD).

Mine went in very easily upside-down. And the marking that tells you which side is "up" is very hard to see. I'll admit I had to look up online to see why my system wasn't charging when I first got it - I picked it up through Amazon Warehouse Deals and thought I had gotten a dud.

It looks like NIS is now using some outside fulfillment company which is why the game shipped from Texas instead of their offices in California and why it was in a cheap fold-over mailer.  I would respectfully ask that everyone take some time to post their distaste with this change on their forums.  Many people still haven't received the LE they ordered for Danganronpa and a good number of those who have received damaged copies.  Totally unacceptable.

Damn and NISA was one of the ones not being cheap about shipping before. They can use that, but damn the current situation with the cheap shipping for CEs by a lot of us is unacceptable esp with their fragile boxes.

Over at the NISA forums, they have addressed the shipping issues. As stated above, someone else is doing the shipping and in turn, has caused some issues. They said everything was supposed to ship like it always has in the past, so they are upset that it didn't, and is addressing the issue. They also said they have a replacement system in place, so if anyone here got a damaged LE set, go to their website and open a "Damage" claim. It sounds like they have replacements, but how many is anyone's guess. I'd also hope they aren't shipping any replacements in the same manner, but don't hold your breath.

Yup they are now using a new company in Texas for shipping.  It makes no sense to use those cheap boxes as they get to use free box from USPS for priority mail.

fuck.. so got around to opening my Danganronpa LE... and its smashed. I was worried when i saw how cheap the box was. Skimming the last few pages i see a lot of people here complaining about the same thing. I also noticed the slip said it slipped from TX instead of CA which i found very odd. THis is very disconcerting as NISA has always shipped things well. If theyre using this garbage mailer these days i may have second thoughts about some of my pre-orders with them!

The one time i had a problem i believe i just called them, or sent an email to the support address and they took care of it quickly. Do you have a link to the forums for an expedited exchange? Their site is kinda broken into a regular site, and then a store version that seems differnt than the regular one

If they do ship replacments in the same package that would just be the dumbest shit ever... big companies like amazon do shit like that all the time but id think NISA would have more sense

*edit* browsed their standard forum and didn't see anything about a replacement system.. just a post mentioning the new shipping company they use. Where is this replacement system post you mention?

Every company on the planet these days is looking for ways to penny pinch and screw its consumers over if they have to. It's a shame.

If they don't make cuts with shipping, they'd do it elsewhere. Either way, we lose.

Weird the fold over box still allowed for damage. It seemed sturdy enough to me.

I think I got very lucky with this and the BD LE which came in an envelope. Both were perfect.

There's no specific link, you just need to go to their site and enter your "account" and choose "contact support". Then under "Type", select "product damage/problem", and then leave a message and wait. Here is the post that addresses the issues: http://nisamerica.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=89&t=12553&start=1785#p715822

Sad but true. I remember the days when Amazon's packing was percent 95% of the time for special editions. But now, it's the complete opposite. Even Newegg's fallen.

At the very least, I give NISA credit for listening to fans and actually responding to it. I remember getting a damaged HDN Victory CE and they (eventually) fixed that issue). Amazon's response to shitty packing seems be "here's a few bucks, stop bothering us, we don't care" while Newegg's response seems to be "fuck you".

I agree that the box is pretty sturdy, but the problem comes form the LE not being big enough to fill the entire space of the box. If it did, there would still be damages reported, but a lot less as the box wouldn't be so easily crushed where it's empty. When any package is shipped, it gets loaded in massive trucks and they don't spend the time to put big and heavy boxes at the bottom and smaller and lighter ones on the tops. More often than not, items like these are at the bottom of very heave and big packages.

They stick anything, anywhere. This is why some get damaged, and others do not. I've worked at UPS and USPS in the past, and I'm amazed I don't get everything damaged(it's not a pretty sight). The only way to insure safety is in the packaging process, as there is no way to keep any package from going to hell and back. Shippers just need to make sure it's ready for the trip. LOL

I personally send hundreds of packages through Ebay in any given month(during my busy times), and I spend the time to ensure proper packaging, as I can't afford returns due to damage. Amazon, BB, Newegg, Etc, can't afford to waste time doing proper packaging, as they would lose loose money due to the volume of their sales. It's nothing personal to them, but it's a "numbers game", and for every 1 LE item they need to replace or refund a portion of the cost, they have 50-100 books, shoes and toasters that arrive just fine or if there boxes get slightly damaged, the consumer could care less.

The best thing a company like Amazon could do, is offer a premium packaging service for LE and or preorders, where the customer pays 5 dollars extra to ensure proper packaging w/box(Call it premium shipping, or something along those lines). Then that extra money would off set the fulfilling agents extra time in packaging the item properly, which could still be done in under 5-10 seconds.

best way to get stuff safe from amazon in my experience is order it with an sd card as they always send those in giant boxes with bubble wrap and air packets. either that or order it with candy in plastic tubs or some other type of large item.

oh and if you want extra water protection you may get lucky with toilet paper as they wrap the toilet paper before putting it in the box so if you ordered it with something else they'd possibly wrap that too.

Amazon never gives me credit, they just tell me to return it. The last 3 CEs I bought have all been significantly damaged, so I did return 2 of the 3 even-though they were sold out everywhere.

not the case with bestbuy, they are starting to ship in oversize boxes now, LOL

not sure if this is posted already, sorry if it is a repost

but bestbuy has put up listings for demon gaze, and conception II

Demon Gaze Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars

Edit: for conception II, they show the picture of the limited edition with the sountrack, so i assume they are offering that as preorder/ first run copies.

They took a long time to get those two up (especially since Conception II isn't that far away at all).

For how fast the Demon Gaze CE was going it sure seemed to slow up.  It's kind of a shame because everything I've looked up or asked about it on NeoGAF leads me to believe that it is quite a good game and I don't remember it being censored either...but the shipping problem is a pretty serious issue too.

Unfortunately, already sent a request on the 12th, and I haven't received a response.
The first time I left them a message, it took almost 5 days to get a response, then after that I would just reply to the email they sent, and they would normally get back to me the same day(or at least within 24hrs). (714)540-1185 is there support phone number, 10-6pm PST. They will probably be closed on Monday, but the phone number might be a faster way to go.

I love Best Buy and had very good experiences with them in the past. But even they changed their free shipping policy to $25 and over after Amazon changed theirs to $35. It's happening everyday with companies all over. Outsourcing customer support to overseas, changing return policies that put customers constantly in a bind, using lower quality packaging to save money, sell gutted games as new because they don't want to lose money selling them used or gut batches of rare new games to sell them as jacked up used prices(*cough* Gamestop), make their customer support lines fully automated so they don't have to pay operators-making it impossible to actually get an immediate answer to a niche problem that isn't recognized by their phone bot, etc.

This is the type of stuff I expect to see from mom and pop stores that can't afford to stay in business unless everything goes right, but big corporations are doing it all the time. I guess it's part of why they stay big corporations. Again, the customers lose in the end.

sorry, i was talking about them shipping CE/limited editions of video games in big boxes now, unlike amazon with their mail bubbler envelopes.

That really sucks about NISA. Every time I bought from NISA, I was impressed at their packaging. Now I don't know if it's even worth bothering with CE's unless I can go to a Gamestop since there is a almost certain chance of being crushed.

I know, but I was just speaking generally. Best Buy is usually very good, but even they aren't impervious to penny pinching policy changes, as proof with their shipping policy change.

generally for collectors edition. gamestop is probably the safest best, if you want it to come undamaged, or in the best condition.

i agree with what you said

Yeah, about the NISA shipping problem, I just fear how they're gonna handle the Hundred Knight/Fairy Fencer F/Demon Gaze (and other NISA) LE's once they're out. I fear what might happen to them, unless get it right this time and ship it from their own wherehouse instead of a 3rd party distrubutor.

Other than that, things happen, and they should fix it.
