Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Yeah, I go to the Play store mostly too. It's actually a bit annoying that the Amazon App Store is so focused on the Kindle Fire. I did one of their promotions to get some credit to use on in-game currency and then it turns out the game I wanted to use it on (The Simpsons Tapped Out) is only available for Kindle Fire through Amazon. No clue why, but I just went to the Google Play store and got it there and it works on my phone fine.
In any case, looks like Tony has his work cut out for him.

Going to miss you, Tony!

Wow, congrats! Looking forward to seeing the Amazon Coins thread on CAG! (That'll be a thing, right?)

Just.. Don't forget about us, ok?

Welcome Josh! You have some mighty big shoes to fill! Good luck! :)
If that thread happens - there better be code-drops there!

And I'm sure there'll be rules in the OP:

"Coins only work on Amazon, not Steam."

"Coins can only be activated on Amazon."

Tony's all psyched about his promotion...little does he know his chief duty will be to tend to the CAK (cheap ass kindle) website thread

Well we all know Tony has a girl in his life now so it's probably fair to say that Tony does not like the CAK :)

Also .. update my sig with a list of games on sale on Amazon from Daedalic Entertainment & Focus home. Looks like there is a small weekly sale.

EDIT:

Not surprised that Neuro5i5 beat me to the CAK joke :)

It's kinda melancholy, so it has somewhat of the same feel of some of her songs, but Fiona is by far a superior songwriter and a better singer to boot. It lacks a lot of the feeling and emotion that Apple brings out in her songs.
I loved Fiona's first album. It's been hard to get into most of the stuff she's put out since. Plus she's crashing and burning with the drug use, last I heard, which is no fun.

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

Cheers,

Tony

Wish you the best in your new job, Tony!

Josh: Welcome! Be aware that you'll be hearing "But Tony would have..." for the next few years. :)

@Josh

I got a question for Josh -

why you on Reddit doing dissertations and not here on CAG? :eek:P

EDIT:

The beta event will run from Friday, March 14, 12:00pm ET - Sunday, March 16, 11:59pm ET.
@Seph

Thanks dude. :D

Much appreciated.

Congrats Tony! The coin department is lucky to have you. Coins are good except for pennies which are mostly annoying except for the copper. Virtual coins don't make my pockets sag so that's a plus. I have spent a few of my coins already on an app that gave me a free Steam key so there is potential for crossover. You don't have to be a stranger!

Welcome Josh! Hand over your coins to Tony on his way out. :)

Wow @ 2700 downvotes. Reddit is such a huge collection of douchebags. It's kind of hilarious, tbh; you can always count on tons of downvotes just because people don't like seeing stuff get upvotes.

(I'm a redditor. I speak from experience; I hate stuff with lots of upvotes and look for top comments just to be a dick.)

((Not really. Well...not really.))
Downvotes?

Her first album is probably the most radio-friendly, but the others are brilliant in an offbeat kind of way. In fact, I like them even better than her first. They were all nominated for Grammy Awards, if that means anything.

Afaik, the "crashing/burning" thing to which you refer is a drug arrest in Texas for possession of marijuana/hashish. I don't think there have been any other incidents and she's definitely still active.

Oooh. Thanks. I own most of that, but FWIW, for adventure gamers, IMO, that deal on Sherlock Testament is at least good.

Oh, I've listened to all of them. It wasn't a radio thing--I never listen to the radio. Just none of them really grabbed my attention the way the first did. I'll admit I haven't heard the remix/re-release of the latest CD, though. I need to check that out.

I thought I'd heard more about her drug problems, but looking it up, yeah, that's all I can find. That's good; I don't really care about people using drugs, but I'll admit that when celebs do it it pisses me off because there's such different treatment versus normal people. I recall reading that Willie Nelson got caught with a bunch of drugs and his punishment was $500. His lawyer suggested a complete joke of a settlement in the form of him singing some song for the court. The $500 is barely a slap on the wrist. A month later I read about a woman caught with far less pot sentenced to jail for years as punishment. She had a couple of kids.

So yeah...I really don't give a crap about drugs. I just have an intense dislike of any situation that leads to celebs getting off on stuff that normal people hang for.

Congrats Tony for your promotion! I hope everything goes awesome for you! And many thanks for all your time shared with us!

Now, I'm curious... you said "I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat." Where do I see your gaming account?

And to Josh, welcome to CAG community! You will find here a great and lovely family! Better than fake Reddit. Don't cheat us with them, please.

No, I mean I'm seeing the waffle post as like 2600 points in the positive. I don't see any downvotes. Not to mention everyone is replying with stuff like "You're awesome!"
*Edit: Ninja'ed

Oh that. That number's an aggregate of up and down votes. There's a Reddit Enhancement Suite Plugin that actually breaks it down to just how many upvotes and downvotes a post got. He got more ups than downs but he still got a ridiculous amount of downs. If you care about that sort of thing. I never pay attention to it but people there get really wrapped up over it.

Also depends *where* the offense is. Not sure WHICH time that was with Willie, but if it was in/around Austin/Travis County, we've looked the other way a long time for small amounts, and I think officially decriminalized under X here recently.

He lives here. Well, close anyway.

But no "normal" citizen in Austin is going to be jailed for years for possession. No way.

Oh, so it's like 5000 upvotes and 2500 downvotes.

That's what it looks like with the Chrome plugin, so yeah. It's a pretty nice plugin; let's you do endless scrolling instead of having to flip pages, is the biggest appeal to me. That and the up/down vote visibility.

Her music can be somewhat challenging. It takes a listen or two to get it. I normally don't have the patience for that kind of stuff, but for some reason her songwriting clicks with me. It's probably a love it or hate it kinda thing for most people. My wife feels about the same way you seem to regarding her post-Tidal work.
