Oh god some of these indie developers really need an editor.

The new Steam store page for the upcoming release of Block Story says this:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/270110

  • One of the top role playing games
  • One of the top block building games
  • One of the top dragon action games
  • Cross platform compatibility with mobile
  • Ten expansive ecosystems to build in and explore
  • Summon five different creatures to join you in combat
  • Fantasy/middle ages art style
  • Level up, grow stronger and battle on
  • Hours of quest game play and fun
Never mind that you aren't told where exactly it is supposed to be a one of the top in multiple categories.

Thanks to Motoki's awesome generosity (thanks again Motoki =D)  I've given Super Toy Cars a good ol' playing. I like it a lot, it is a little buggy here and there, nothing devastating, but it's still Early Access so that's to be expected. It's another "Top Downy Toy Car Racery Arcadey Game" * in the mould of Little Racers STREET, Bang Bang Racing, Mini Motor Racing EVO etc. I'm gonna post some pros and cons for this one.

PROS

- Very nice graphics, one of the prettier of the genre so far, on par with Bang Bang Racing.

- Different cars have fairly different driving characteristics, which you can see from their specs on the Purchase screens. Acceleration, Top Speed, Handling etc ratings are shown here and DO make quite a difference. Some cars are quite "drifty" on corners, others have better handling and grip but you can apply the handbrake to drift on the sharper turns.

- Weapons - Like Mario Kart, Wipeout etc you can pick up "single use" weapons off the track to use against other drivers.

- Choice of three views - close behind, further behind and a Micro Machines style zoomed out and directly overhead view (I had the most success with the far behind view. I would prefer an option of far behind and higher up like the one's available in Little Racers and Bang Bang)

- Fun tracks, all kinda toy themed, like the old Micro Machines game

- Great soundtrack by "The Spin Wires"

- Track editor and Steam Workshop support (although it seems fairly complex compared to Mini Motor Racing EVO's)

CONS

- A little buggy, in the hit detection you can clip objects that don't seem to be there. On one of the maps, a small raise up in the track can flip and flick your car up and get you sideways. In the "Minefield" track a mine can suddenly appear directly in front of you giving you no chance to evade it. Again, nothing too serious though. For an early access game the game is very highly polished compared to some.

- The tubes you have to drive through on some maps, are a bitch. Extremely difficult to negotiate without clipping them or getting flipped onto your side on the exit. Some cars seem a little better at getting through them cleanly.

In the Battle of the "Top Downy Toy Car Racery Arcadey Games" * , I'd place them in this order:

1) Little Racers STREET

2) Bang Bang Racing

3) Super Toy Cars

4) Mini Motor Racing EVO

As silly as that is, I'm happy it's getting on Steam. I got that in some Flying Bundle that I bought for an unknown reason.

Unfortunately the bundle only included the PC version... not the Android version. The description said you could bring your game to your Android and keep playing between PC and Android, yet it failed to mention that you had to buy the game twice, once on each platform...

I emailed the dev about it, and surprise, he never replied.

In any case, hopefully I'll get a Steam key out of it at least. Some people seem to really like the game, actually, even if it is a blatant Minecraft clone with better character models.

This is my first post here, and I was wondering, is this really legitimate? The prices for some of these games are really low. How can they charge so little for them?

On the subject of Mars: War Logs, I will say that what the combat is probably most reminiscent of to me is Risen 2.

Lots of rolling around and parrying and smacking things from behind after rolling around way more than any person should really be capable of.

Put like that it sounds awful, and it isn't fantastic, but you definitely get the hang of it pretty quickly.

Outside of Mass Effect and KOTOR, Sci-fi RPGs are hard to come by, so if that's up your alley, War Logs is without question worth $3.75.

Just know going in that it's a janky little game with a big heart that you'll have to forgive a little before you can really love.

I guess I should post this here just in case people aren't following the Diablo III thread...

Well, its not much... and you have to go to Gamestop but they have a 15% off code that I just used on Reaper of Souls.   It valid on store pick up.

Code: paypal15

Things of Note:  Make sure you click apply next to the code box...  It won't pick up on it otherwise.  (Also make sure you select the store or they'll ship it to your house.)

My total after taxes was $36.87

I started playing Diablo 3 a few weeks ago for the first time - got it as a Christmas gift. Having a blast with it and totally hooked. Glad to be playing only since the loot 2.0 implementation as the drops are quite often useful. Already ordered Reaper of Souls (full price=fake CAG - I know). I'm running a level 42 Monk right now as my first and only toon on hard. I'm finding it to be extremely polished and very addicting. With the bonus 50% experience until the launch of RoS, I think I'll hit 60 before finishing the campaign.

If anyone wants to add me in-game, find me as DrR0Ck#1881

I noticed Shadow Warrior is on sale at Amazon for 80% off - $7.99.  Looks like it's been a bit cheaper before, but not a bad price for those interested.  Link

Considering picking it up but it's not quite in impulse buy territory yet.  Also bundle?  Someone buy it so it will be sure to get bundled soon.

Thanks

So anyone think Mars: War Logs is worth $3.74? I know spoder said it wasn't, but all he plays is hedgehog games.
I am probably way too late to answer this, but I did not enjoy my time with it at all - although I only played it for an hour or so. I was excited to get it in the Amazon bundle, installed right away & decided it wasn't for me. After reading everyone's posts though.. well maybe I'll give it another chance someday (probably not..but maybe!).

ETA - I realized I didn't mention at all what I didn't like about it. Combat felt way too clunky to me, 10 minutes in I was already backtracking through the small area I had already explored, uninteresting dialog & textures. The reason I say I probably won't end up revisiting it is simply the amount of games I own & want to play - and the fact that I haven't once re-started a game from my "Not feelin it" steam category. I have a hard enough time revisiting things from my "Stalled - to go back to?" category. Yeah.. I have atypical steam categories.

I'm not going to defend the game because it's not without flaws, but I will say this... I gave up on Mass Effect 2 during the intro mission my first time through. Just did nothing for me. Gave it another chance a year later and the rest is well known history.

I hear what you're saying - it may be a good game, but I wasn't really into it. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for that type of game at the time, but with my backlog, I honestly just don't see myself giving it another shot. As for Mass Effect - with me it was love at first sight :) It's my favorite game franchise.

New Bundle Stars Underground Bundle - 6 games for $1.99

  1. Knytt Underground (Steam Trading Cards)
  2. Captain Morgane and the Golden Turtle
  3. Kairo (Steam Trading Cards)
  4. Gravity Badgers (Steam Trading Cards)
  5. Holy Avatar vs. Maidens of the Dead
  6. Bionic Dues (Steam Trading Cards)
Did you say cards? :whistle2:k

Can't justify it, no interest whatsoever in those games. The cards go as high as .17 for some of the Knytt ones but I think you'd be lucky to make $1 total, probably much less.

Speaking of this sort of thing, take a gander at this. Anybody else wonder whether this is just industry BS? The story doesn't state anywhere what criteria they are using to determine whether players finish games. Unless a game has a specific achievement for completing the story mode (and many don't), simply using % achievements unlocked or something like that is meaningless.

EDIT: I find many of these numbers very difficult to believe. Unless a game is Steamworks, I'm just not convinced that Steam completion is even a valid metric to use to measure this statistic.

Remember when there was a pack with all Prince of Persia games but Ubisoft removed it 'cause they're dicks?

Figures Dragon Age isn't available in the cheap countries.

Considering the amount of recent major launch troubles, game breaking bugs, constant patches, and dlc on top of dlc for games lately, why don't they write the even more troubling article "Most Developers Don't Finish Games Either", amirite.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands Deluxe o includes Sands of time so that might be better choice than separate.

2.99€ vs 3.98€ separately in EU. :D

"some interesting statistics from Valve, based wholly on Steam Achievements."

edit: Though it does seem weird that Mass Effect 3 would be in there...

That's true, but those heavy single games aren't worth "$10 or less". Last I checked, a good complete copy of Lunar was going for $100-150 depending on condition. $5.25 isn't really a big deal in those situations. Even thick manuals don't put things over 13oz though. Trust me, I've shipped Morrowind. >_>

But yeah, if you have a heavy game worth under $10 for some reason... there's no point to selling it anyways. There aren't really a whole lot of situations where you run into such a heavy single game, though, unless you're dealing in steelbooks, which you're better off selling to collectors on CollectorsEdition.org.
as usual, i'm a day late and a dollar short...

holy hell! lunar silver star story complete is expensive on ebay! that reminds me - i have it and i've never played it. i should do that, sometime...

I'll accept their numbers for sake of argument but I'm not sure how much they say. You can play the crap out of games like Skyrim, Just Cause 2, Borderlands, Saints Row 3/4, etc without finishing the main plot. Is it really meaningful if someone has 250 hours in Skyrim but never completed the main storyline?

I was a little surprised at Portal, given how short it is, but they've also given it away for free so many times that I bet a number of people grabbed it just because it was there and then had little interest in it. If it was $4.99, they never would have bought or installed it.

For ARPGs and the like, I'd be more interested to see a chart of how many people reach each "stage". I've heard that the 50% divorce rate is a little misleading -- most divorces happen very early into the marriage and if you can last five years, you'll very likely last twenty more*. Likewise, how many people start Mass Effect and say "Nah" within the first hour or two versus people who make it 75% of the way through and then drop it?

*Off topic but life expectancy is the same way. People didn't all die at age 30 in the 1200s; rather a lot of them died between birth and age 5 and, if you lived past that, you could likely hit your 60s. Infant mortality skews the whole "life expectancy" angle pretty hard.

Man, I wish Adventure Park was good....  only 11% of people Like it.  LoL.  Wow!

After the debacle that was yesterday's RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 announcement, I'm ready for a good amusement park sim.

(me:  RCT4 finally coming!  To...mobile?  Boo!!!  Wait, its coming to PC, too!  As....a Facebook game?  Boo!!!!)

So my amusement park sim dreams are down to Theme Park Studio, apparently.

Really been wanting the Prince of Persia games. Can anyone speak to the quality of the ports?

Prince of Persia bundle incoming?

I'd just like to point out that if you're interested in buying both Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, you might wanna consider just buying the deluxe version of Forgotten Sands. Every copy of the deluxe version of Forgotten Sands nets you a free copy of Sands of Time. This will end up costing you the same as buying the two games separately, but you also get the OST to Forgotten Sands & a few skins and an additional map for Forgotten.

Nice to see DIII: Reincarnation on sale already. I'll pick it up when it hits $5.

Yeah, there have been a lot of Ubi sales this week. I'd say they're up to something. With my luck, the bundle will include all games I already own/do not want/Uplay only.

I got it for $6 when it was 75% off GG before it was sold on Steam and then Severose used the Oops discount to get it for me at another 20% off. But yeah, it's not a recent game just a recent Steam release so it can go lower.

I didn't even know there was a RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 announcement yesterday. And now, after reading this, I'm wishing I would've remained ignorant about the possibility of RollerCoaster Tycoon 4. Seriously, mobile and Facebook only??

I'm confused as to why you say that most games don't have a specific achievement for finishing the story mode. To me, this seems to be the most common achievement in every game that has them and, for all the Steamworks games listed in the article you linked to, they all have one for that. While Mass Effect 2&3 do not have Steam achievements, progress is tracked on Bioware's social website, so that data is very accessible.

It also doesn't strike me as odd that, on a platform where people tend to have the most games (1000+ games is not uncommon in this thread), they also have the most unfinished games. How many times have we started a game that we got dirt cheap in a bundle, decided it's not worth our time, and went on to play sometime else? Or started a game right before there was a sale on another game and never got back to the first? I'm just saying the numbers they present seem pretty realistic, especially on PC.
