Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Started watching Kill La Kill. I expected nothing less from what is basically the creators of Gurren Lagann.
SOLD!

It saddens me Aniplex has the rights to it though because this is one series I really want to buy.
Between Sword Art Online and the laughably generic Blue Exorcist, I forgot Aniplex had good content.

BTW, I saw the finale to Soul Eater last weekend and I liked it. I don't care if it's in the manga or not as long as the content is entertaining and it was. I read from some people that the manga ending is worse anyway so .... haters gonna hate?

It's been confirmed that Space Dandy is getting a second season that's going to start in July.

The Fafner sequel series has been pushed back to January 2015.

The Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine series is getting a spin-off movie based on Jigen called Lupin the Third: Daisuke Jigen's Gravestone.

And here's a teaser for Terra Formars:

People will tell you to watch Kill La Kill, but don't listen to them. They are false prophets.
Kill a Kill is good but I don't get the hype either. The show moves so fast that a lot of content flys over your head in translation.

Finished up Kino's Journey. It got a little boring an predictable near the end. Still a good 13 episode run. It didn't overstay it's welcome.

Trying to find something new to get into since I caught up and finished all my current shows. A friend recommended Natsuyuki Rendavous so I watched the first episode and it was okay. Maybe I'll start watching Rorouni Kenshin finally.

finished rental magica was good but had a lot of nice set up but didnt expand on it like the other magical  groups, itsuki father. Probably did in the light novels

also Jing king of bandits read the manga so i decided to watch the anime. Enjoyed it but think i liked the ova more

I only saw the first few episodes a while ago, but I had beef with the tone. I had a similar problem with Gurren Lagann.

Note to MR fans: Season 2 ends the "Hunt for the Phoenix" storyline. Season 3 is the post-script tournament season never shown on US TV.

Booo, my Silver Spoon, Golden Time and Log Horizon all ended. At least Log Horizon is coming back but any idea if Silver Spoon is returning for a third season? I really hope so. My wife was telling me they're doing a live action movie.

Golden Time ended well enough. Sad to see it go but the story had reached it's end, unlike Silver Spoon.

It's gonna be weird not having new episodes of Space Dandy for a while. Also 40 episodes of One Piece and I'm still not a fan of it.

I agree, Space Dandy is pretty fun. Best anime of the year so far IMO.

I don't get the hype for One Piece. Plus too many people obsess over Nami.

Part of it has to do with the strong early arcs, part of it was it having some strong arcs while Naruto and Bleach were starting to annoy the fan base, part of it was annoyance at Naruto and Bleach getting more success in America (thanks, 4Kids), part of it is Japan also obsessing over the show, part of it is having as many American references (thus allowing Western fans to actually get it) as Japanese references, and part of it was the crazy designs and goofiness that was still fresh way back when.

The fan base obsessess over Nami because Oda himself obsessess over her, especially once he got married and became a horn dog.

One Piece to me just seems like your run of the mill shonen which is why I never bothered. Along with the fact that has hundreds of episodes and am more of a fan of shows that are short and have a clear beginning, middle, and end.

Am just more of a fan  of shows that are about quality over volume, instead of lot that do the opposite. Now I understand if ends early because the manga is on going as long as you end it well.

Both Naruto and One Piece I stopped watching pretty deep within it's run. Naruto around the Pain Arc & One Piece during the Fish-Men Island Arc. I just lost intrest. I may return to One Piece and just skip the Fish-Men arc. That arc really bored me to death.

As for Nami she's probably my least favorite character in the crew.

Is this around the time her breast size went up like 3 cups?

for one piece you likely should just read the manga instead... each chapter that takes like 2 min to read is a 20 min anime episode... it's not hard to figure out that the manga likely has way better pacing with the arcs :p

^ That explains a lot.
Well, she was already popular anyway since she was the only real female member of the crew until Robin came along. True, there was Vivi in the Alabasta arc, but her leaving at the end of the arc sunk that. It also helps Nami that she wears pants about as often as Kasumi from Dead or Alive, though post time-skip she does wear pants more so than miniskirts. Finally, there's the fact that her and Luffy are an obvious couple and Luffy being the most popular shonen hero since Goku (in Japan anyway).

Though as often as Nami is the victim of perversion among the fanbase, Robin, thanks to her powers, is often the perpetrator, especially since Oda confirmed she can use her powers with ANY of her body parts.

Robin is like 100x better than Nami.

Thats still a big comittment given how long the manga has been going.

I agree, but Nami was used more often for fanservice (especially by marketers), although Boa Hancock (one of the Warlords of the Sea who rules an all-female island, a former sex slave, and is madly in love with Luffy) and Rebecca (a gladiator whose costume is the Slave Leia outfit with Spartan helmet) are gaining popularity. Robin has also gotten more fanservicey lately. In particular, she was wearing nothing but a bikini top and short shorts while having miniature people crawl all over her.

I have a huge stack of comics and a couple books still waiting to be read. Thanks for the advice but I have no desire to pick up any new reading material.

Oh, believe me, I am very pervy. Just not for One Piece.

I mean, Heaven's Lost Property has become one of my favorite shows ever.

Speaking of favorite shows, while Gundam Build Fighters had an awesome ending, I am incredibly saddened to see it end. There MUST be a second season!

The first episode of Baccano! had me scratching my head thinking "wtf is going on?" But after I few more episodes I see that was the intent. Things are falling into place. Can't wait to get home tonight watch a few more.

Baccano! is probably my favorite anime. Glad to see someone else enjoying it.

Also, caught up with the Hunter x Hunter manga, and the chimera ant arc was so much more palatable in the manga than it is in the anime. Looking forward to when Togashi writes some more chapters. I too started the Kuroko no Basuke manga and read what is scanlated of the Hoozuki no Reitetsu manga (whose anime is one of my favorites for the season) and the Hamatora manga.

Also finished Golden Time, Hamatora, Kill la Kill, Pupa, Space Dandy, Strange+, and Tonari no Seki-kun, all of which I enjoyed except for Pupa, which was not even tolerable. Not very surprised since the manga isn't very impressive either, but it was short and had small episodes so it's no big deal. Hopefully going to finish Gin no Saji season two today.

Tonari no Seki-kun and Space Dandy are done? I need to pick up on them.

Also started watching Welcome to NHK. Sorta perverted so it's something I have watch while the wife sleeps.

Welcome to the NHK was a good show, but really overrated. It focused too much on the comedy and not on the darker stuff. Also Misaki's character wasn't as good in the show, that and the characters were off model so much that it came off as lazy.

Viz announced that they're going to publish the DBZ one-shot about Goku's mom in their digital version of WSJ next month.

Whoops, my bad. Could've sworn it was done airing.

So far, I've watched the pilots for Blade and Soul, Selector Infected WIXOSS, and Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou as for this season. Blade and Soul seems decent, Selector Infected seems like it'll likely be bad, and Bokura seems good so far. I'm liking the animation.

blade and soul looks really bland to me, just saw captain earth today. i like the art style, and animation. it reminds me of erueka 7, and star driver.

Crunchyroll got the first part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (Phantom Blood). I watched it all last night, I just couldn't stop. Such a male chauvinistic anime. Most the time it makes no god damn sense, but that's why I like it.

Started the manga Uzumaki recently. Excellent horror manga, but my main issue is other than Shuichi everyone treats all this abnormal shit happening like it's an every day thing.

Gurren Lagann is awesomesauce.

GaoGaiGar though....not so much. I actually never finished watching it because of the damn bad guys strobing effects kept giving me headaches.

I don't even know what a GaoGaiGar is.
Super Robot series from the late 90's and one of the series in the King of Braves series (though it's the only one most Western anime fans know of). Helped usher in the large amount of Super Robot shows in the early 00's. Media Blasters released the series a few years ago, but due to low sales (part of it the strobing effect bad guys, part of it the horrible packaging, and part of it was the general aversion most people had to non-digital animation) the dub was cancelled halfway through and the rest of the show was released sub-only.

Finished Monogatari series (Bake, Nise, Neko, and Second Season). It was outstanding! So glad I started watching subbed anime. Looking forward to the third (final?) season.

Got around to watching the Fairy Dance arc of Sword Art Online. I see now why it was so poorly received. It's not that I hated watching it, but coming from how much I like the Aincard arc, Fairy Dance is very disappointing. I think the main problem is
the bad guy is at an absurd level of creep. The idea of keeping Asuna locked into a virtual world that Kirito goes back to save is an alright setup for a story, but they needed to make the villain believable rather than disturbing.

Another thing about the fairy arc of SAO is that they take the strong female lead Asuna and just shit all over her. Now she's the weak victim and it really destroys her character. Plus the whole arc was just creepy with bunch of taboo elements like rape and incest. Like you said, I didn't hate it but it was disappointing.

SAO gradually weakened Asuna's character, the fairy arc just put the final nail in the coffin. I think the whole show should have been set in the first mmo.

Sounds like something I would love.
