Solid state saves so I don't ever have to worry about dead batteries in carts and the ability to save at any point so you don't have to replay frustrating parts of a level over and over (I'm looking at you Battletoads turbo tunnel) and the ability to properly scale output over HDMI was enough to sell me on the RetroN 5 as long as the hardware quality doesn't end up being shitty.
Plus you can use the original controllers with it instead of that hideous monstrosity that it comes with. I paid next to nothing for my SNES, so I'm okay with getting an upgrade to a better device with more consoles to play like GBA to avoid diving into the Wii U GBA VC for a bit.
I wouldn't mind if Sony had a Gamepad equivalent for the PS3 that was optional and allowed you to play in another room. I mean I guess that's the same thing as remote play for PS4 and the Vita, but still. Something like this would help me knock out my PS3 backlog.
Yeah, and the Gamepad does not have this emulate L2/R2/L3/R3 by tapping various spots on the back nonsense. It's good.

*Mario Kart, Smash brothers, Pikmin, Super Mario 3d World, Wonderful 101 machine. Everyone knows that Nintendo console's are generally only good for the first party, but as those titles pile up and the system's price goes down, it becomes much easier to take the plunge. It is of course not nearly as much as a value as getting a PS4 or Xbone, but still...
If you guys think PSN sales stink on their off week, you will be ready to throw the Wii U in a dump when every other week has nothing new on sale. It's crazy that hardly anybody wants to put their games on sale for the past few months outside of the same few indies and occasionally bad Ubisoft sale. I'm glad that I can get the credit on sale from time to time and get $5 credit back for every $50 spent.

Oh man. Nobody is arguing against me on the gamepad now. That can mean only one thing. Soon the mercenary will swoop in and take up the counter argument!

I feel that's the only way I'm gonna beat Hell. It's a pain in the ass.
I wasn't saying that isn't the way to do it. Didn't know you were going for Hell. But if you're going to piss off the shopkeepers you have to get good at dealing with their rampages afterward. I haven't beaten hell yet. I have gotten as close as 5-3, but Hell is so freaking difficult. Lately I can't hardly even get out of the Jungle….

Also, you don't *have* to steal from the shopkeepers to beat hell. I saw a guy on twitch almost beat Yama without doing that and not even having anything left when he got there. He had the jetpack, but had no bombs nor a shotgun, so he was trying to win with just the whip. He didn't but he got amazingly close.

I've been doing all right but lately I've been getting really shitty store spawns as well as shitty room configurations where the shopkeepers are pretty well protected so I have to get in close. I know I don't "have" to steal from the shops to beat Hell but it seems like it'd be way easier to get equipped for it by doing so. And same here, I'm having huge trouble getting out of the Jungle lately too, although I am making it much harder on myself.

The farthest I got was 5-2 and that was when I was doing my Big Money run so I ran out of bombs after using most of them in the City of Gold. I know I can beat it, it'll just take some time.

I'm going to 100% this game, because, true chat, I'm the king.

You guys are making me want to play Spelunky again. I was content with just a temple completion. Maybe I should save Hell for when the PS4 version launches.

Plus you can use the original controllers with it instead of that hideous monstrosity that it comes with. I paid next to nothing for my SNES, so I'm okay with getting an upgrade to a better device with more consoles to play like GBA to avoid diving into the Wii U GBA VC for a bit.
Not even just that, you can use any supported classic controller with any other system slot so you could use the more comfortable SNES controller for NES games or play Mario with a genesis controller.

There's a pretty easy way to kill the shopkeeper 90% of the time (or more). There are some layouts where you can't do it, but the vast majority of the time you can. It takes advantage of the fact that while the shopkeepers are lethal, they are also really stupid and behave in a predictable way.

You've probably noticed that if you pick up an item in the shop (instead of buying it) the shopkeeper starts following you. If you carry it out of the shop, past one square outside the shop, the shopkeeper goes nuts. So what you do is you stand on the one square outside of the shop door and put up a rope. Then you walk in and pick up any item and carefully walk out, but NOT even tiny bit past the rope. The shopkeeper will be following you and when you go up the rope he will walk right underneath of you. Now you push in toward the store (that's important!) and then go back down the rope and carefully place the item down, back inside the shop. Don't throw the item! Then you walk out. The shopkeeper will just stand there like an idiot. Now if you were to place a bomb on him or on the one square outside the shop door, he goes nuts, but since he's standing right on that square, you carefully place a bomb just outside that one square and he will continue to just stand there. Step back and BOOM! You'll probably screw this up the first several times, so expect that.

If there's a shotgun or freeze gun in the shop then you don't need to do this. Shotgun, just pick it up and shoot him 3 times. If a freeze gun, pick it up and move a little so he steps out of his corner. Then shoot him with it and jump on his head to shatter him.

Do the daily challenge! It's one shot a day and no practice, so it doesn't take a lot of time (unless you're doing well, and then you won't mind). Also I am not that good, so it's not like I'll run away with it. I don't get to it everyday, but most days.

So apparently The Walking Dead Season 2 is cross-buy? I bought the season pass for Vita and it's showing me available for the PS3 as well. It doesn't mention it in the description. I'm playing it on the Vita anyway but I'm wondering if there is a glitch or something going on. I couldn't find any info online about it being cross-buy or not. Unless I'm just missing something entirely.

Did anyone grab the Sly Trials just in case?

EDIT: Found in the comments on this PS Blog post that it isn't cross buy as it was written in error?

So confused.

Went to my download list, definitely have the option to download it to PS3 as well as Vita.
Interesting. I want to play this on my Vita but will wait till they actually release all 5 episodes though I think at this point. Unless there is a good sale on the PS3 season pass and it is cross buy.

Thanks for the tips but I already knew those. I've only been able to do the bomb trick like three times, that's how shitty my dungeon generations have been. I've been whipping him and taking the one hit to life and that's been working most of the time.

The download list on what? Vita, PS3, web store?

Ah.

I can't do that technique of whipping the shopkeeper. I can't pick up the shotgun fast enough so he kills me. The only times that rope+bomb trick can't be used is when either there is no square outside of one square past the door (it's a ledge) or if there's a stack two high in that spot. Otherwise you can do it. If there's a stack of terrain two high I think you could do it by careful placement of a bomb to clear one of those blocks, but not sure.

Ok, will stop talking about Spelunky. I know Tyler is getting ready to explode. But I am inspired to make some runs at Hell again tonight….

You sure this isn't just the Vita download you're seeing? IE, DL to the PS3, then transfer over to Vita? It's not cross-buy from PS3 to Vita.

What does the baseball glove do? The glasses reveal the hidden gems and stuff? Think I should probably know this by now.

Throws things (like bombs) straight and they won't stop until they hit something. Combined with paste, it's a huge help.

I thought glasses were pretty pointless until I found out they prevent dark levels.

are you sure it's not just the ability to download the vita bubble to your ps3?

edit - beaten by like 20 minutes. I'm as bad at reading as I am at ffx.

Cool didn't know. I hate dark levels too.

I'm only seeing it on the web store right now...not near my PS3 but when I go to my download list on the web store I get download to all your ps3s, download to vita, and or download for all systems. It also says playable on PS3 and vita.

I did not know this! Always something to learn….

If you can't get jetpack. Cape + plus climbing gloves is a decent substitute. Climbing gloves are great with Jetpack too. The only downside to climbing gloves is that in some cases you don't mean to stick to the wall… so you've got to be aware of that. Spoiler about alternate source for glue and cape:

you probably already know these, but: kill a giant spider, get glue. Kill a vampire bat, get cape. There's others like this, though I think the others are all random whether or not they drop their item.

Play Spelunky, suck at life. Blab on and on for pages about Spelunky, suck even harder at life.

Why announce this now?  WHY!?!!?!?

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.  There's no way MS has so much stuff lined up for E3 that they have to get all these announcements out now.  There's no way!  So what's their plan?

Maybe this was a leak.  Maybe everything was ready to leak and they were jumping the gun.

I also don't think a ton of people are out there dying to replay the old Halo campaigns.  When Halo 2 Anniversary was rumored everyone was excited about the MP.  I wonder what kind of MP this remastered set will have.

Pretty sure it's a

That's a big leek, you retards.

Microsoft may be pulling a Nintendo and rerereleasing some Halo games on Xbone. So now you can play the first Halo on all three of their consoles!
Still not enough to make me want a XB1. I mean...do they have a single exclusive released yet that's been received well? I know Ryse was a flop. I haven't heard anybody talking about DR3. I tried Forza 5 at GS and it seemed crappy. And then there's KI, which I also haven't heard anybody talking about.

How much time do you spend in the XBL thread? I'm sure those are all nominees for greatest games of all time if you go over there.

I disagree about the Xbone exclusives, I think they were way better than PS4's at least, but I agree why would anybody want to buy an Xbone for Halo remakes? GAF is full of "well now I have to buy an Xbox One" comments. Seriously? For 4 old games? I mean it's cool that Last of Us is coming to PS4 but it's not a system seller. If when a UC 1-3 collection is announced it won't be a system seller. I really don't see how this is either. Especially with no comment about what the MP is going to be.

I'm not trying to pull a Breakfuss here, but what has PS4 had other than Infamous? It seems like their exclusives have kind of been duds too. I feel like this is how newly released consoles start. The games that make us say "Holy shit I need to buy that" don't come out until at least a year into it.

I honesty can't stand this trend of releasing all these last gen games on the new consoles. They're all cash grabs, especially when they hardly add anything new, and only give you minor graphical updates. I blame Sony, with all their HD collections on the PS3. And I blame all you assholes for buying them.

Square's remakes are always stellar and add tons of new content. Didn't you just finish one?

Finally got my ps4, which looks mighty nice with my xb1. I have a question for anyone that can help. I recently grabbed A realm reborn so I can upgrade for free. What exactly do I need to do for this? I figure I need to install it to my ps3 first. Do I redeem my code on the ps3 and start a game up before I upgrade? Then is the upgrade process easy?

Yes, and I'm confused about what new content it added. Everything in the game was in previous releases.
They brought the voice actors back into the freaking studio 10 years later for X-2. Completely redid music for X (surely you noticed this???) For KH they recreated game assets because they didn't exist any more, updated control schemes and updated the command menu. Square is on it.

I agree with you on a certain level that the need to get a console at launch may not be necessary, but in a year when all the great games are out, I may miss some of the launch titles that deserved a play through. For example, if I were to buy a Vita today, there is a good chance that I wouldn't get around to playing ACIII Liberation, because of all the newer games and that game was a great handheld experience. Liberation did come out later in the year, but I think my point is still valid. Another example is I just finished Outlast which was a free Ps+ game and instead of it sitting in my backlog for 2 years, I finished it and now I want to get the DLC because of how much I enjoyed it. This most likely wouldn't happen later on. None of this is necessary, but there have been some games that I have really enjoyed at launch.

Enhanced audio and visuals are just part of the HD upgrade process. Square is better at it than the companies churning out crap for the other Sony HD ports, I'll agree with you. But it's still the same game that came out all those years ago. It just looks and sounds better.

And while I loved FFX HD, I still can't stand the trend. Yes, Square is setting a better example, but it's still a cash grab. They put 5 people on updating the game over the course of 2+ years, which means they're sinking as little into it as possible. At least it's not as bad as the Jak Vita collection, where they just rushed to put a turd out the door as fast as possible and didn't care what the end product was.

That's because you can download any Vita game to your PS3 and transfer it over to the Vita. It doesn't mean they're playable on PS3.
