MP trophies are the worst offenders but it's not limited to that. Like, did you see what they did to the trophy set in Terraria after the patch? LOL. Someone who got 100% completion before had it exponentially easier. How is that fostering fair play and competition? If you're not willing to boost or use a guide or sometimes even break/exploit the game then you're forced to sit out.

I just don't understand why a system so obviously flawed is the only way we're able to display our gaming feats. If Sony has no intention of regulating at least give those uninterested in participating in this bullshit something else/more. Again, I mean no offense by that. I'm just saying - not everyone has the desire or time. Some people might focus on a small set of games while others (like me) prefer to play a wider breadth. If feels like the former is being rewarded while the latter penalized. I know complaining about it here solves nothing.

The other alternative is giving trophies for watching netflix/amazon. I can agree that Sony has to delineate a better trophy system. The no platinum of Ground Zeroes still stings.
 
Unless the game is multiplayer only, ALL MP trophies should be required to be of the "+" variety like DLC trophies are and cannot count toward the platinum.

Holy crap, I didn't notice all that about Terraria. I got the plat last September, before the patch...and I'm glad. All that just sounds like a pain in the ass. They should have just added new trophies for things like that..."Collect all the new pets", "Collect all the new armors", etc.

 
So I played War Thunder (f2p, ps4) last night.

So... aside from the obvious PC heritage (mouse is even used in the tutorial dialog) it's a solid game.

There is a ton of complexity hidden behind rather obtuse menus and screens (again, it's obviously coming from pc land) that I didn't get into, but I did play a couple dozen rounds online in 'arcade' mode. There are also 'realistic' and 'sim' modes. I played long enough to win a couple rounds, research some new planes/equipment/guns... but not long enough to know if those upgrades were automatic or if i had to apply them somehow.

Nothing seemed 'pay to win'... in fact, i was earning mad amounts of in game currency and was freely buying stuff (though again, i didn't play long enough to totally understand what i was buying/upgrading). I was fully competitive with my starting gear... like I said, I even took first on my winning team a couple times.

Playing late at night (midnightish PST) I could easily get into new games. 30 second wait, tops. Pretty impressive, actually.

I'm not sure if I'll keep going back to it (I want to try out some of the other f2ps)... but if I were really into planes, I could see losing myself in it. Dogfighting was fun, and there were some seriously awesome incidents (like the time I had to do a rolling loop to avoid one enemy and just as I was straightening out another enemy plane came into view and we had a head on collision...).

Worth checking out. Don't let the crazy complex looking menus put you off -- get some arcade rounds in, you can learn all the complex systems later if you dig it.

Game designers just need to treat trophy design as an important element of game design -- it can either make a player enjoy a game more, or piss them off to the point that they begin to hate a game they loved. It's understandable that since some game designers aren't great to begin with, they wouldn't be able to implement solid trophies... but it seems like even some great game designers don't realize the importance of trophy design either. Or perhaps they're forced to shoehorn in stuff like MP trophies to satisfy the marketing dept or whatever.

go for it. Ac2is the only plat I have for all the ass creed games. Because it doesn't have mp trophies. And it was really fun as well. I dont remember it taking too long either.
 
Mp trophies suck because they usually require way too many hours and/or some stupid win streak that 99%of players will never get without boosting. Its safe to say most folks boost mp. They just have too unless they only want to play one game a year.

I know they took the wonderful multiplayer out completely on the ps3 version, and lumped some of the collectables together. But have you ran into any kind of bugs/glitches playing the ps3 version? I had been playing on the Vita and it was about 50/50 really good, and completely terrible, depending on what glitched on you during your play period.

Also, ACII was extremely fun and played so well. I think the only daunting task was collecting the feathers, and it wasn't too bad. May have been my very first plat, but I can't remember.

Man, I platted that on my birthday too. I can't believe I didn't remember that. I think I basically played the whole thing offline, then when I finally played an online game it autopopped since it gave me that gearbox trophy.

Edit: nope, the arena trophy lol, I had no interest in trophies back then obviously.

I haven't run into any glitches, aside from the screen occasionally going foggy in the bayou if you want to call that a glitch.

Nah. On the Vita, I had ran around and purchased a bunch of shops to get a trophy. Then the game froze up. When I restarted, it didn't save me buying them. From that point on, every time I purchased one, the screen blacked out. Had to use eagle vision and get to a checkpoint to get the screen back. Also, most of the trophies were bugged, as in you had to get way more than x number of kills for it to register. I also have a missing diary page that is simply not there. Multiplayer progress randomly reset at least 3 times. Numerous other things. I eventually just gave it up, I wasn't having fun.

I take that back, I did have a glitch where like parts of Aveline's hat expanded and covered the entire screen. I restarted the checkpoint and it fixed it though. Also once two black boxes appeared on screen for a few seconds. Nothing game-breaking like you mentioned.
 
it would really make my day/week if people could spoiler tag world cup game commentary.  i often can't watch the games live  and need to wait a few hours so this thread is a minefield.

I agree that some trophy lists are better than others, but I look at it the same way I view the quality of games in general. Some games are great and some games suck; it's the same way with trophies. Expecting all trophy lists to be great or not to have any cheap trophies is the same as expecting all games to be on the same level of quality. It's a flawed system but it's the one we have and it's likely here to stay. I can understand the frustration (especially if it's a game you love and want to complete) but trophies have and always will be an optional side-quest of gaming. Messing with a game's trophy list by making trophy's harder/easier to get after the game's been out for awhile is one the biggest of all slaps to the face though and shouldn't be allowed.

Not sure why you're worried about displaying your "gaming feats". That doesn't sound like the breakfuss I know. You've never been concerned with that type of stuff before. And you'll have to clarify to me how people that play a wider variety of games are "penalized". You're not referring to the imaginary yet all-mighty epeen, are you? Again, that doesn't sound like the breakfuss I know.

No one is forced into trophy hunting and if you don't have the desire or the time then don't do it. I've got my share of responsibilities that keeps me from playing every game I want or going after every trophy I'd like. I pick and choose to do what I want and sit out on the rest. If a lot of us had more time we'd likely have more trophies, but there's more to life than our trophy cards. You pick and choose to fill your life with what you want. I would hope after you look at the things you chose to do over trophy hunting that you wouldn't be too upset over what your trophy level is or your TT ratio.

In the end... who really gives a fuck? I don't need a bunch of plats to be a fucking badass and neither do you.

Was the vita slim bundle supposed to come with these ar card things? I haven't seen them so maybe I threw them out on accident when I got it. Now I can't play some of the games on smart as..

Mine had them, but I haven't ran into a game I needed to have them though. I wasn't aware they were like that.

Oh okay, when you said breakfuss was one of the most misunderstood people in the thread I took it as you thought I misunderstood him which would be a complete load of bullshit. Breakfuss and I are always on the same page... cut from the same cloth, two peas in a pod, two trophies on the same game.

 
I'm one trophy away from the plat in virtua tennis and it's one of those must grind online for a thousand years trophies. Either that or find someone to boost with for a measly hundred years. It's a shame, the game stands on its own really well, it's a great tennis game.

Terraria gets WAY better. There's been some good tips in here but you should probably just work towards crafting some stronger weapons. Like Breakfuss said you can get super overpowered to where only the bosses pose any sort of threat. The "combat" does take some getting used to but getting the timing down (AKA swinging earlier than you normally would) will help that a lot either.

Also don't think the comparisons to Spelunky are accurate in that if you die in Terraria you might lose a few items and get warped back to your house and you just keep playing in your world. Every heart in Spelunky is pure gold and death is much much more devastating.

World Cup spoilers though I think at this point it's not going to help affa at all (though I will spoil any comments I make in the future as well)

Yup, hell of an ending. No doubt in my mind that Holland coasted the entire first half to save energy. Then they gave up that great goal to Gio early in the 2nd half which wasn't part of the plan. Mexico fell back too early (subbing Gio out in the 60th minute? C'mon!) and Memphis Depay came in (he was guaranteed to have an impact as he's an excellent player and having fresh legs vs everyone else out there) and that completely changed the game around. Holland dominated the last 35 minutes and unless Ochoa was actually a brick wall, they were almost bound to score with all those corners and set pieces, and finally did on Schneider's gorgeous ball.

The penalty was pretty questionable, but there was also a non-call in the first half that was actually more egregious. Regardless, I don't see Mexico threatening a whole lot if it went into extra time and the ref really only saved all the players of 30 more minutes in that heat.

If Mexico fans want to blame someone, blame Herrera for getting too conservative too early.

It is an awesome game, one of my favorites on the Vita. If you need to play any matches online for trophies, I might be able to help. I haven't played the game in forever, but I doubt you need me to be competitive if you're hunting for a trophy.

They're in there, but as a foldout piece of paper you have to cut instead of the nice, thick, laminated cards that shipped with the 1000. Not surprising since almost nothing used them. Smart As ... is pretty much it.

So I caught a clip of the news today that showed the Mexico fans celebrating their loss. This girl was on the back of a tow truck jumping up and down thinking she was boss. Well I was happy to see the driver hit the gas and she went falling on her ass. Seeing that clip was great and put a smile on my face. If I find the clip I'll post it cause I'm sure it'll bring some smiles to other CAGs.
