The main mission? As in the mission I want to play to connect the MGS story, the mission that's the true mission in the game, and the one most people came to play?

Get off Mt. Pious, Stonch. If I wasn't terrible at finding the second prisoner, that could have easily been 90 minutes. I'm going to play the side missions, but they weren't the ones that compelled me to this game in the first place and let's not act like they're gonna add a large amount of playtime either.

I came to play Metal Gear and what I got was a really good, short main mission that's the reason I'll play the rest. If the main mission wasn't good, I'd be complaining about the length. Right now I'm commenting on how much of a demo this truly is.

Edit: Just to be clear, you weren't being pious. I felt it's only fair I include an awful point in response to the terribad SF example.

So I've been playing Tomb Raider, I've got to be getting close to the end at least.  It's been quite fun, but I am ready for it to start wrapping up.  The settings are starting to get a little tired.

Slight spoiler of the layout of the game:

It feels like it goes forest, cave, village, RUN! VILLAGE COLLAPSING, forest, cave, forest, village, RUN! VILLAGE COLLAPSING, cave, forest, and that's as far as I've gotten. 

I understand why Uncharted completely shakes up their location every few chapters.

 
i'd still trade our sale for theirs, expecially if i could get ff 1&2 and white knight chronicles psp/vita.(sorry tyler) i already own steamworld though(so happy i actually played it). i'll probably pick up txk though.

hyped for that star ocean wannabe game, especially if it makes its way to vita.

I wish they went more towards the exploring and platforming route that the game was best at. A lot of the shooting parts seemed forced and put on areas better suited towards platforming.

Still, really fun game. Great shotgun.

Get off Mt. Pious, Stonch. If I wasn't terrible at finding the second prisoner, that could have easily been 90 minutes. I'm going to play the side missions, but they weren't the ones that compelled me to this game in the first place and let's not act like they're gonna add a large amount of playtime either.
I came to play Metal Gear and what I got was a really good, short main mission that's the reason I'll play the rest. If the main mission wasn't good, I'd be complaining about the length. Right now I'm commenting on how much of a demo this truly is.
Edit: Just to be clear, you weren't being pious. I felt it's only fair I include an awful point in response to the terribad SF example.

The side missions are just as important as the main mission, and a couple are equal length. You can't come in to troll if you don't know your facts and are just spewing random shit in every direction. This is probably the 3rd or 4th time you've failed miserably at a troll attempt in the last week. I know you're only 13, but Jesus, learn to grow up a little. That shit might be fine over at GameFAQS, but not here.

Also, don't use words if you don't know what the fuck they mean. You'll learn that around 9th grade or so, but this is an early warning.

Eh, I really liked the Arkham Asylum-ish design of the game and being able to go back to previous environments for collectibles and whatnot. I guess there's only so much variety they can do when it is contained to one island, but I didn't really mind since it all felt cohesive. Most important to me was that the shooting felt awesome. A few notches above Uncharted.

Where in the game are you at? It felt super stretched out to me. I kept thinking I was getting close to the end and then it would just get longer and longer. :(

I did think it was a little to long for very similar game play throughout. It definitely had the Uncharted 1 feel to it being in the same setting the whole game. Hopefully for the next one they mix it up and go to different parts of the world. I want some Tigers in India as a throwback to the original. :)

Calm down, chubs. This is why new people are afraid to come in here and we end up with page after page of soccer talk while legitimate game discussion gets drowned out.

Anyone going in blind wouldn't know that the side missions extend the length of the game considerably. You can just tell him to check them out. I'll admit I was bummed when I reached the credits of the main mission so fast, but those side missions really were fun, arguably more fun than the main one.

Edit: I'll admit the dude definitely doesn't know what pious means.

Tomb Raider is all about the bow and arrow especially when it gets upgraded. Screw guns.

Speaking of Metal Gear, I started on 4 for the first time finally. I'm nearing the end of ACT 1. I was kind of surprised by how much ammo you get. It makes it feel a little more like a shooter. Overall though I like how it feels a bit more fluid than 2 and 3. I have this weird thing booting up MGS games, like I always feel like it's going to be a slog to do so but once I start playing I'm always into it. I'm thinking after this I might have to play and finish Peace Walker and then Ground Zeroes so I can hit the ground running when 5 comes out. I'm a little worried about the "open world" of 5 though, not sure I'll like the change or not. We'll see.

Thomas Was Alone is good for about 30 minutes, then after that you just want the narrator to shut the fuck up, the game to end, and you start to question why you played a game that looks like dog shit. Not sure why you would need a guide as someone mentioned, that game was easy as shit, unless there was a bunch of hidden crap that I didn't know about but don't really care about either.

I have never played ground zeroes, but I would say the point Stotch is making is that you cannot really complain about a game's length if you have not tried to experience everything the game has to offer. It does come off as trolling or unnecessary whining.

 
I'm definitely gonna down those missions today. Some look fun as hell, I just wish Sony's platforms got better exclusive content.

Yay, we get to see nostalgic moments... that happen thirty years later in the plot... from the viewpoint of a different character...

Aside from that, shit looks fun. If it helps people rationalize the purchase price, so be it.

Agreeing with Stotch is like agreeing with a bitchy girlfriend, but the side missions are important to the story and resources wise, in The Phantom Pain.
 
Really proud of my son today.  We started up LBP Karting and he was having a little trouble with it at first.  There's two difficulties; normal and casual.  I had put it on normal to start out with and after I saw he wasn't doing so hot with it I asked him if he wanted me to knock it down to casual. 

"No dad, I want it to be a challenge."

Ha, that was me. But it was more of a "if you dont want 0% on your card and dont really like the game, guide that shit and minimize time spent". I definitely didn't need a guide.

Yo, I'm totally up for that. If I'm wrong on how important they are to the plot, then I'll find that out today.

I'm still gonna bitch about the length of the main mission because that shit is legitimately very, very short.
 
I actually found myself playing Ground Zeroes both to explore and speed run. Hard is no challenge and that reflex mode is a crutch, so I turned it off. Kojima better include Extreme and European Extreme difficulties (Big Boss and The Boss difficulties in MGS4).
 
I feel like my point was proven in two ways here.

1. I said that you shouldn't complain about the length unless you play the whole game and got attacked, almost as if the response was just waiting to be posted. Just like his comments last week about buying an Xbox instead of getting PS Plus and he started jumping on everyone.

2. Being called a Metal Gear apologist, when I blatantly said the main mission is short and can be done in 45 minutes. Not sure how I apologized for anything.

I can't stand when middle schoolers are off for the summer.
 
With all this MGS talk I hope a new game Vita version comes out at some point, maybe after 5? Ugh who am I kidding? Come on vita sales pick up enough to make it happen.

I still need to play 4 if for the gameplay, I can't believe what an abomination and fan pandering that story was. I mean, yes, lolvideogame stories, but that was goddamn ridiculous.

For clarification, I watched an analysis of the entire story on YouTube. Some of that was legitimately terrible.

Agreed on the "story" length. I feel Kojima lost a chance of episodic dlc and/or making it more vital to The Phantom Pain. I don't really know what is going to carry on to TPP in detail, but I hope it is something substantial. Like all the personnel from each mission I kidnapped...

Eventually, your son will be asking you the same question and you'll give him some excuse like "I'm a busy grown adult and don't have time to be challenged." At least that's what I say when my kids see that they're better than me at games.
