You know, I've been keeping my mouth quiet for ages on this, throughout your long feud with Topside, your days as a merc, etc., etc.

You want to know why people think you're argumentative and rude? Because of sentences like this. Reductionism at its worst misrepresenting the views of others, often insulting to those who don't agree with you (conspiracy theorists, etc), and just generally incorrect.

You love to keep shouting "without a shred of evidence". How many times do you need to be told: the $500k is a 'shred' of evidence. The various reviews are 'shreds' of evidence. There is quite a lot of 'evidence'. You choose to view that evidence and disregard it, fine. But you insult everyone who disagrees with you in how you go about doing so. We aren't just randomly making shit up, we're basing our views on our interpretation of the wealth of evidence on the topic.

For example, I don't call you 'naive' for thinking $500k doesn't buy some sort of loyalty. It would be rude to do so. Yet you have no issue throwing around terms like that at times, or insinuating the same about people who disagree with you.

I would call you naive about this subject all fucking day long if I didn't think it was rude and unsavory. So please be more careful with how you debate, as well.

For the past 6 months or so, I think you've been a really nice guy. But it's topics like this where it becomes apparent why there's always endless drama with you.
Exactly, there's evidence coming out of the woodwork. You can't miss it man. I just remembered that Brian Crecente is there too, which is another reason I don't like or trust them.

I don't have anything against you breakfuss, nor did I know this topic was a long going debate. I just have strong feelings about this.

EDIT:

you know what, nevermind. Breakfuss, please stop talking about polygon. We get it, you think we're conspiracy theorists and we think you're naive.
So it's okay for others to talk about it but you want me to be quiet? LoL. You drone on and on about alllll kinds of crazy shit everyday and I never tell you to "stop talking". In fact, I try to read and glean some kind of understanding from your posts even when I really don't care to.

If my defense of Polygon or the gaming press in general is "unbecoming" you're welcome to move along and ignore me. Wouldn't surprise me and it fits perfectly into why I think places like Polygon bother people like you. For the longest the voice of gaming has been a bunch of guys who hang with other like-minded guys and listen to the same guys talk and cajole about the cool things that other like-minded guys make all day.

So, nope, it doesn't surprise me in the least to see so much resistance when places like Polygon present discussions that clash with this paradigm. What you refer to as "click bait". Or what SJD apparently believes is sapping the "fun" out of vidya gamez. You might not think it's important but some of us do. I'm not trying to persuade any of you, and hell, I didn't even start this debate today.

Crecente and Chris Grant being the height of fanboys. Urgh. :puke:

And you boil down stuff to simple terms, like disregarding the entire paragraph before the fun and videogames. Your defense of "press" that is more yellow than the color and offers discussions, which have their place in their own terms, not because "VIDEOGAMEZ HAVE VIOLENCE YOU GUYZ", is what fucking bothers. You're entitled to your own view. Hell, I must admit that some discussions do bring out interesting topics, but they are presented in the wrong way, by the wrong people. I like their podcast, but like I said, the lack of professionalism from people like Plante and Frushtick is unbelievable. I have "evidence", I read their site to see the few quality stuff they produce, like the Overviews. Their review system is broken; if you bother to read how they judge games, how does a fucking panel let some egregious score go pass them by a shitty reviewer and then openly mock him? Professionalism at its best.

I read Kotaku too, sometimes to my chagrin, but at least I can make an informed opinion. Patricia and the rest are terrible. They've been known to censor commentators based on them pointing out how the article is basically untenable and worthless, offering no real issue to discuss. Polygon has been known to do the same. And you defend them? Why? Can't you see it or are you purposefully blind? And the money aside, the conflicts of interest in them reviewing games. Look it up, it has to do with Danielle Riendeau and I believe the dev behind Gone Home. What a fucking joke.

Gaming is changing, true, but some discussions should progress on their own naturally and not forcefully. It's like Patricia and her rape diatribe, where everything she does or hear in gaming is related to it. Ummm, no it's not. We could go on and on, but you say you defend them and you're not loyal, it makes me wonder how much they're "paying" you for the support.

Was Blackgate not free for PS+ or was that a different region? I guess I'll pick it up since with the way I'm missing days, I'll have Rayman Legends inside my vita for another month.

Wow. I see you edited your original post, @affa. But to answer you, nope, I stopped caring about why you think I'm argumentative, especially since you couldn't be bothered to address the individuals who started this discussion. You have the nerve to call my posts "reductionist" after all the shit that was posted before me? The shit I was responding to. Are you kidding? Same story as always.

It's easy to parse sentences to make whatever narrow point it is about me today. Now let's turn our attention to how "rude" breakfuss is (while ignoring everyone else's tone). I apologize if the use of "blah" offended you, m'lord.

And if you're going to parrot that 500K talking point at least make sense of Sony giving them seed money as well. I'm not looking for any evidence but the unfounded cynicism is so old. I'm not the only one who feels this way as I have these discussions on other forums all the time. I'm just greatly outnumbered here. Naïveté has nothing to do with it as I can guarantee I understand the complexity of this better than you. Clearly.

I think different region, because I am positive it wasn't free for us. Hard copies have been cheap. I know you play a lot of games and get dem plats and all that, but buyer beware, Black Gate is really shitty. The map is horrendous and basically makes no sense.

This may not deter TheCro from buying Black Gate, but everyone else do yourself a favor and skip it.

Edit:

Arkham City was free could that be what you are thinking?

I only visit IGN and Joystiq to get news on games. I don't give a shit about journalists opinions. And usually I get the information here first, so I skip over a lot of articles.

I couldn't even tell you any journalists names except Greg Miller and that's only because I find him really annoying in some videos I've watched.

Dude, I do not visit Kotaku. I don't know why you keep bringing them up. I do not know who these people are, lol (honestly).

There are problems with the gaming press. I'll be the first to acknowledge that. Much of it can be attributed to growing pains. Hell, the gaming magazine formerly with the largest subscriber base was run by one of the console manufacturers. It doesn't get more incestuous than that.

There's a way to conduct this conversation without all the fucking hyperbole and misinformation. The reason I get defensive is because I do see a lot of people TRYING to do good. TRYING to push the medium forward. TRYING to be more inclusive. Gies and Plante may be the biggest assholes on the planet but there is no way anyone who spends a decent amount of time on Polygon could possibly think the bulk of content reflects those guys' opinions. Just as I know Moriarty (who is a shameless Sony fanboy) isn't overlord of IGN. That is not how all editorial teams work.

Ok, so Polygon writes a piece on white male privilege. You think parts of it are deliberately inflammatory. Fair enough. But do you honestly -- HONESTLY -- think that outweighs the issue at hand? That's what always tickles me. It seems like people are pedantic about each of Polygon's missteps as to avoid the more important topic at hand. Or, ok, they gave TLoU a 7.5. Whack score? Perhaps. But every criticism presented in the review was spot on. But, people want to lament over a fucking number.

Seriously, let's just agree to disagree. I think the press do more good than harm. You don't. I'd love to talk more about it but the conversation never goes anywhere. Especially when people swoop in hours later to add opinions that fit nowhere into the context of the conversation at hand.

There's nothing I'd rather see first thing in the morning than a bunch of long posts debating whose news site is better.

Bravo gentleman. Well done. You are scholars among men (and one lady).

Hey, can you rebirth before lvl 50 in BS2? Why is the lvl 40 trophy less than 10% but rebirth is close to 90%?
Stotch and ctrlv pretty much answered it, but it's because the three trophies in that DLC are the hardest in the game: playing all the DLC maps, winning on all the DLC maps, and getting to level 50. It only counts you having the DLC unless you get one of the trophies in it. And since the trophies are so hard to get, only dedicated people are getting them - and if they're getting one of them, they're most likely dedicated enough to get all three.

I don't know what integrity you feel has been compromised. Could it be any worse than IGN reporting The Last Guardian cancelled? Like, that was some factual shit and not a peep out of anyone lol. This is just one of those topics I need to keep avoiding. I was doing good, too. I'm never going agree w/ people here and that's okay! Still got love for everyone. LEGOS? LEGOS.
You and that selective memory of yours. I remember people here and in the GS thread being pretty vocal about IGN's incompetence on that one. And also when they were reporting incorrect stuff about Borderlands 2 Vita.

I guess now we know that we can't talk about anything related to gaming journalism without the Polygon Pony asking for receipts or some shit. I'm starting to think Polygon used some of that Microsoft bias money to pay off Breakfuss.

Ok, I'm noticing a difference after playing some actual vita games. Was gonna side by side my vitas for a better comparison, but apparently I have reached my limit of handhelds on my account(4 psps, lol). The process to deactivate is a pita. Have to call Sony anyway cause I only own 1 of those 4 now. Don't think I ever activated my modded one.

I honestly don't remember there being much fuss about it and I certainly wasn't in the GS thread at that time. Apologies if I overlooked those complaints, but my point is that it's a more egregious offense than a disagreeable review.

I wish you were less interested in trying to make a quick joke out of everything. If you look at what I'm saying it really has little to do with defending Polygon and more what they represent.

Playing one of the Living Dead Levels and immediately remembering why I stopped playing in first place. These levels are straight up bullshit. Completely distorting your view of the game does not equal challenge. Like when would walk back and forth in front of the TV when you were playing a game.
This where I gave up too. I enjoyed the game till then but got annoyed with the BS and sold it..

lol, I'm not personally offended by this since there were plenty of us discussing it, but is this really necessary? Lots of things I don't find interesting here and don't feel the need to say it. No need to threadcrap.
Sorry if your feelings were hurt. Is it even possible to thread crap here in this thread?

I don't get why people care about video game journalism so much, but I don't get a lot of things.
God dammit Pete. You stole part of what I was going to say. But the real problem here is that anyone thinks "video game journalism" is a thing. Seriously? We are talking about video games right? Oh no, someone reported a rumor about what video game was coming out next month. AND THEY WERE WRONG! HOLY fuck, this is going to start world war Z, I mean 3!

And I dont think I have ever read a review or article on a video game site and thought to look at the name of the person that wrote it. Why? Because who gives a flying fuck?

In case anyone is on the fence about inFamous: Festival of Blood, and you care about how many hours you get from a game, it took me 4.5 hours last night to get all the trophies in it.  Getting to the end of story mode took me just under 3 hours and I was taking my time.

I personally think it was definitely worth the $2.44 even with it being that short, but I know some would likely not be happy with it being so short.

I grabbed this last night too. Haven't played it yet though. Still Grinding my way through Infamous 1. Need 8 more stunts (stuck on Have a Nice fall) all the shards and heal 150 people. Not sure what I am doing wrong on that stunt but it is annoying. I found two spots where I can get 3 to 5 guys on the tracks but can't seem to get it to pop. Ended up unlocking another stunt (the one for riding 4 rails or wires).

So bought blackgate for the 4.20 (thanks Sony stoners!) and gameplay is not bad so far (played maybe 1hr) but I REALLY like the cutscenes. They look great and really like the art style.

that might be your problem, has to be 3 guys at the same time with one blast and I don't think rail tracks will trigger the high fall bonus (or whatever) right. they also need to be weaker dudes so that the blast kills them, otherwise hitting the ground does and the bonus doesn't seem to count. I got really lucky with it and knocked two off but not the third since he was a tougher rocket launcher dude. but then he just walked off the edge or something and it unlocked.

I was kicking ass this morning in Destiny and ended up having my best match of the beta with 7630 pts.

Decided to turn the stream on and immediately sucked ass.  fuck

Proud of myself for not buying Backgammon last night just because it's two dollars. Checked out the demo and I really don't think I'd boot it up more than once or twice. That demo is bulshit by the way, it's just a tutorial on how to play backgammon. You don't actually get to play a game.

Now I need to decide if I want to go for Lego Marvel. I got burnt out on them awhile back (Lego Harry Potter 2 was my last one, I think), but this one is supposed to be pretty solid.

stream looks a lot better with your fancy shmancy new internets. at least on my business card sized cell phone.

after watching it for a bit I feel confident that destiny isn't for me, but it looks like it's going to be awesome for folks that it is for. you guys have also collectively convinced me to steer clear of bioshock 2 mp. that sounds grindy as fuck. strangely looking forward to getting ac:b going though, which is also grindy as fuck.

If you have generally liked the Lego games you have played, and like the Marvel characters, I think you should buy it at that price.

Yup, that's what I'm going to do.

IF I could get a platinum out of it, I'd grin and bear it and work on getting all 700 Teensies. But there's no way I'll ever bother plating that game because of the stupid grindy online stuff.
