Stop twisting my arm!

So much for everyone saying they would play online once the game came out. Topside seems to be the only one that plays MP somewhat frequently. I see Cainiac has played a few matches of Survivors though.

:nottalking:
It's Gator's fault for making me start Arkham Origins. I'll probably get to TLOU after Labor Day.

TLOU K/D Ratios of CAGs in the PSN OT

User/Kills/Deaths (In Supply Raid)

Topside / 639 / 640
Mpaulin / 112 / 108
Cainiac / 3 / 4
HandsomePete / 8 / 56
Bumslie / 4 / 41

I blame Infamous. not for my k/d ratio, I blame that on sucking.

In regards to TLOU MP, those who focus on the kdr and run-n-gun are in for a very rude awakening. The mp component of TLOU revolves on team coordination and being deliberate. A good team can bum rush and destroy, but it hinges on comunication. Also, the bow is your god in this game.

Also, Stellar posting other's kdr, but not his own, hahaha. Many of us are getting Destiny, so we should set a clan up. Making the fireteams and raids be under the PSN OT clan would be cool.

meant to ask earlier, why do you have enough experience with usb mics to be able to recommend one?
Back when I was doing my "journalizm" thing in college I'd sometimes finish post-editing and voiceover work at home.

USB doesn't deliver the same quality but it has the advantage of being portable and much simpler to use. I used it for interviews as well since it's omni-directional. I've tried a few brands and Blue is awesome, especially for podcasting. The Yeti hits a sweet spot, but of course there are both cheaper and more expensive options.

---

So after drowning in the sea of salty tears over the Tomb Raider announcement, I decided to *finally* give the PS4 version a go. It's actually pretty good. Looks and plays great. I could do without the simon-says QTE, but I like it so far. Reminds me a lot of Uncharted, though, so I don't really see its sequel as much of a loss.

Let's definitely do this thang. I suppose it is still early, but the more people we get involved the better since our collective gaming schedules are all over the place.

I'm surprised I'm anywhere near a 1.0. ratio. I haven't been on in about a week. I'll send you a message if I see you playing and I have some time. Having at least one other person with a mic goes a long way in this game.
this - I don't play much competitive mp outside of fightin games, but I'm amazed at how much of a difference micing up makes on this game. It's dumb I know, but I just never expected it to be so useful. unfortunately I don't enjoy chatting with internet strangers, so I don't do it unless I'm playing with someone I know.

will someone please explain the fuck ing bow to me? I see folks getting 2 hit downs with it, but it feels like my arrows just bounce off of people. is it worse to hold the bowstring for longer? if you don't hold it long enough is your shot weaker? am I overthinking?

Pete and Bum, my brothers in arms! Your ratios look like mine!

I tried the other night, but MP for me was messed up. Couldn't connect. I need to add you Stellar and I'll play.

That's for the best.... you don't want to whore out that sexy, Sean Connery voice of yours. Make it a privilege.

Yes, it's a two hit down. Weird that they bounce off, unless they have armor, which then should be a three or four hit down. You should time holding the bowstring as soon as you know someone is there, but not move while drawing it fully, since the aim gets wonkier. You have to find a middle ground, unless your shooting at far away targets. I recommend the Bow and a shotty, since the Bow is killer at mid range, decent at close quarters and depending on skill, works at sniping.

Think of it as a jump shot, you have to find your sweet point of release and practice it.

Anyone here good with the chocobo racing in FFX? I don't think I'm ever going to get a 0.00 time for the trophy at this rate :(
there's a lot of luck involved, but here's the advice I can give (spoilered for boring):

- try to stay away from the other rider as much as you can. no reason to dodge 4 birds at a time if you don't have to.
- actually think about how much your chocobo moves depending on how much you push the stick - the angles matter. the wide angle (tap a direction lightly 3 or so times) dodges birds well, the skinny angle (tap a direction lightly once) tends to line up with balloon runs
- think of the race in three sections:
-- first section is starting line to the 180 degree turn. during this part never try to cut off the other rider. half the time you'll get 4+ balloons directly in front of you and these will probably be your best runs
-- second section is the wide expanse. vital to stay away from other rider. if you veer all the way to the left immediately after turning and then back to center to pick up balloons a lot of times you won't have any birds to dodge as long as you're not near the other rider. experiment and you'll find it.
-- third section is the narrower part after the next turn. just get as many balloons as you can, try not to get hit more than once (preferably not at all). this part tends to suck mostly because the other rider is behind you and you can't purposefully steer clear.
- it is possible to succeed and get hit if you have a good number of balloons.
- don't give up.
- watching videos is pointless.
- stotch thinks I'm bad at ffx, but I'm only sort of bad. I'm pretty boss at velocity ultra though. I know he's reading this. hey prof.

I feel you; I'm still trying to figure everything out.

You're possibly going up against someone with armor. If you recognize someone has armor on aim for the legs, then break the armor before you execute so they don't respawn with it.

As for the timing, I'm still working on that. I do know that you do less damage if you don't draw completely back. And when you hold longer you'll notice your aim won't be as steady.

played more abe's oddysey last night. it's really damn good. the difficulty with regards to stealth/platform/puzzling ramps up earlier on than I remembered. requires a ton of patience, but pretty satisfying. my hopes of getting the speedrun trophy are about nil.

Doesn't this one have difficulty settings? What do you have it set on?

Both. You're not overthinking. Its a monster of a weapon once you become good and accurate at quick aiming.

Per Eurogamer, Microsoft's exclusivity deal with Square over TR has a duration.
I also just read that but it doesn't specify duration and what platforms it'll eventually end up on. I guess I don't care as much as others since this morning was the first time I've ever played a Tomb Raider game (besides GoL). Had it been Mass Effect or Fallout or something I'd be upset. I know it's unfair to call it an Uncharted clone since it technically came first but that's exactly what it feels like.

I could care less about TR. If it was Fallout 4 though... I think the whole internet would have shouted "Riot!" ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ

I have it set on normal but I think it's pointless to go below the highest difficulty since the goal is to not fuck up (it's much more like a puzzle game with timing than platformer - there's right and wrong answers to every screen). the lower difficulty gives you more buffer against fuck ing up, but it's really better to just die and try to get it right than just survive.

Wrong, its the next Sleeping Dogs that is the killer app that would kill the PS4 if its X1 exclusive. And since TR is published by Square and so was Sleeping Dogs, we all know this is going to happen. So sell your PS4s now!

Honestly, I find the fact that it's cross-gen way more offensive than some timed-exclusivity deal with MSFT. That shit has gotten out of hand.

Thank you very much for all the info

I'll try again later once my controller is charged and the baby is napping :D

I don't think it's unfair to call the latest one an Uncharted clone since my understanding is that it's quite a departure from the other TR games (this was the first I've played too). IIRC you can complete the game without actually raiding a tomb. The reboot was obviously inspired by Uncharted.

I agree. But most of the cross gen releases don't appeal to me at all. And it's a bit unrealistic to expect them to be churning out games exclusive to current-gen and PC, when there is a combined 150m market of last-gen versus about 16m current gen. That said, I'm sad Kojima, who is usually a very forward thinking developer, didn't opt to develop exclusively for current-gen. I hope he rectifies that with Silent Hills, which considering the "Trinity" of talent involved, is probably a Day 1 purchase for me.

Going back and watching the Gamescom press conferences from yesterday, on the MS one currently.  That whole FIFA section was quite awkward.  Also, what they are doing with FIFA is worst than the whole TR thing, IMO.  System exclusive players?  I don't really get into the Ultimate Team thing, but that's messed up.

I rarely buy games full price, but for the first time in years I have some funds available and I'm kind of itching to get some PS4 gaming in. I think I will probably preorder Destiny, but I am also considering Diablo 3. I have been looking forward to Destiny for a while, but I didn't think I would be that interested in Diablo until now. The PS4 version seems really nice.  I guess I still have a few days to decide.

On that note, all these multiplayer games make me wish my schedule was more flexible. I work nights and will be going to school MWFs starting in a few weeks. It seems like my schedule is opposite from everyone else here lol

Oh, happy days. Now everyone can stop being butthurt over something they shouldn't have been butthurt over to begin with.

The only thing that bothered me over the whole deal was the statement they made acting like they have some sort of special bond with MS, saying garbage like "MS gets us" and "they've always been behind us".

Don't insult our intelligence; just say they gave you a shit ton of money and you couldn't refuse.

Yeah, I know. That's what I'm getting at.

When they first announced the feature one scenario they brought up was you could have a friend help you get past a part you were stuck on. That's fine if you're stuck, but you shouldn't be earning trophies for stuff your friends are doing. That would be complete bullshit. Man up and do that shit yourself. If they end going that route then why not just give me all the trophies that my friends have? They earned them but no reason I can't have them too, right?

But if it goes down like that and people want to take advantage of it, that's their choice. I don't see the point in it though. If they do this it just makes trophies mean even less then they did before, which wasn't much to begin with. But I enjoy going after certain trophies and I'm proud of some of the ones I've earned and this would just mean that anyone could have them regardless of whether they put the effort into it or not.
It's no different than boosting.

I was just coming in here to ask about Diablo 3. The PS4 version has been on my radar since the series is so well received, but I just watched a half hour or so of gameplay and I don't think I get it. It looks like mindlessly walking around and pressing the X button. Not sure if anyone can fill me in on something I might be missing, but I will likely wait for a deep discount before giving it a shot. Destiny is only a few weeks away.

Not sure how you can say they're "no different" from each other. Boosting bends the rules a little, but under that scenario someone can have any trophy out there without ever picking up a controller.

Sony might as well endorse buying saves to auto pop trophies.
Explain why some devs ban players when found boosting. Boosting is a very gray area skewing to black and clearly not what the developer intends for the player (no matter how fucked up the online trophies are). I believe Sony is offering this feature as a way for players to test out a game, buy it and still it hasn't been explained fully.

Skip Diablo, let's fireteam in Destiny.
