PSN Off-Topic - Happy Thanksgiving Chumps and Chumpettes!

I played AC1 earlier this year, then Bloodlines, and I'm about halfway through 2. 1 was decent enough, but definitely has some annoying aspects to it. Specifically that the controls aren't that great and that there are waaay too many NPCs and guards everywhere. Getting anywhere can be a huge chore because you're either stuck having to move slowly through the massive crowds on the streets or jump from roof to roof hoping the controls don't end up in fights or jumping off a building accidentally. I'd still say it's worth playing, but it's definitely got that "first game in the series" kind of feel.

What should I play next? Should I replay the first Assassin's Creed so I can finally start catching up on the series? Should I play Resident Evil: Revelations since it has a decent amount of online trophies? Should I go back and clean up Payday 2 for the same reason? Or do I replay Demon's Souls?
You've actually played AC1 before, and you want to play it AGAIN? You're crazy. Just watch a video that summarizes the story and move on to two.

I really dislike this ESPN FF site. It's not put together well at all. I scheduled two drop/adds and now I can't find what happened to them and they don't seem to have gone through. :wall:
just bc you do the drop/add does not mean you will get them. It depends on the waiver order. Look at your league homepage to see if someone else got the players you wanted bc they had a higher waiver priority. Wednesday morning is when waiver adds open, so if you tried adding them before, they are conditional.

Are you going to buy a 2nd one?
No. My need for a 2nd controller comes up so rarely, and I can just use my Vita if I ever need one for collecting a random co-op trophy or something.

I'm gonna wait for a cool new DS4 to come out probably before I grab a 2nd one, if they release any more cool ones. Like if they released that Dragon Quest controller here as a standalone I'd definitely buy it.

Did anyone here preorder/buy Madden NFL 15 from Best Buy at release? It'll be $10 off at Best Buy next week, and Elite/Elite Plus members can get some money back by bringing in their receipt with the ad: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/335323-best-buy-ad-914-920/

I hate that they changed the policy to 15 days regular when it was 30 days everyone! would have loved to get $10 back, oh well, i still got my $10 cert for the preoder

It's unfortunate that you aren't at least Elite, as you could keep the $10 preorder certificate and get the price difference back.

don't know if anyone knows this, but i thought on True trophies the rarer a trophy the higher the multiplier? NHL has a lot of rare trophies, but is just getting the regular score, no extra points.  how long does it take or how many people to get the point totals to go up?

Bleh, I don't know why I didn't preorder it this year. No, I do know. It's because I barely played Madden 25 at all. But I still wish I had. I'll probably grab it for $40 after GCU next week though.

(And then not play it)

Got another $5 Amazon gift card from Bing Rewards yesterday, love that shit...so easy.

I breezed through the last three levels of Metal Gear Rising (they were really short) last night to get stuck on the last boss. He's a PITA. The worst part is I didn't really use many health packs the entire game and didn't realize when selected in the menu they get used automatically. I probably used a few in the dumb
mech fight
before the last boss and didn't even know it. Wish I could start back there. I figured out more to the fight near the end so maybe going in with a cooler head later today will mean victory but still, why are all end boss fights super annoying!?

Playing more of The Amazing Spider-Man on Vita, haven't run into any real glitches yet but it did freeze once. It didn't set me far back at all so it wasn't really a problem. The load times to load the city can be a little bit long but overall I'm impressed they crammed the sucker on the Vita.

What are you talking about? You're missing something based on what I see on your profile.

Edit: I do see one trophy like that, but probably hasn't updated. Only shows one tracked gamer unlocking it, which would be you. The rest of the trophies are adding extra score though.

Right, but I don't remember who it was I tried to add and there's no record I can find of the attempt.

NHL 15? TT shows it as being unreleased.

Edit: Oh, "EA Sports NHL 15". Look at the page, they're clearly weighted: http://www.truetrophies.com/EA-SPORTS-NHL-15/trophies.htm?showall=1&gamerid=15664

I bought and downloaded Minecraft for PS4 last night.

Assuming that MS actually does buy Mojang, I highly doubt they will pull the Playstation versions since I'm sure it's a breach of contract.  That being said, I'm not taking any chances on MS not being huge dickholes.

They might pull it from the store, but it wouldn't be removed from your download list.

It seems like EVERYONE in here picked the titan class for destiny.  I almost want to start up a second character already just so that I can bring some variety to fireteams.

Some aren't. Maybe more than one person has to earn it before the score changes, else the score for that one trophy would be through the roof. It shows the ratio for the silver he's earned as 1,000, which would make the value 30,000 which is obviously absurd. Anyone know the details on this?

Apparently all of us are pansies afraid to stray from the "normal" character.

I'm disappointed in all of you.

I was the first person to get the superstar trophy, it is only worth 30 points as a silver. I meant it isn't weighing all of them...
Could be that with only 1 gamer having it they don't add the weighting in yet as that could cause some absolutely ridiculous scores for a single trophy. Imagine somebody getting a plat for a Japanese game nobody plays; suddenly their TT goes up 180,000 points. :)

I picked a Hunter class due to the op of it in The Crucible. Warlock was nerfed to hell, so last class I'll bother with, although I enjoyed it.

After avoiding FPSs since July, Destiny is great. The palate cleanse worked. 9/10 Vigs.

So why is it 1/10 Therms?

I picked warlock. I'm trying to reserve my judgement until I get a taste of everything, but right now it's just a good solid game to me. I would put it much higher if it had a legit story, but maybe I haven't made it far enough into the game for that. Definitely having fun though. The first competitive multiplayer I've liked in quite some time, and the strike missions are a blast.

I am loving Destiny. I think the last time I got this hooked on a shooter was CoD4. I'm not much into shooters so it probably helps that I haven't played one in a while, but I think a big issue people are having is an issue of unrealistic expectations. Just like Watch Dogs, Destiny was hyped to be the game that ended all games and changed people's lives. So if you are gullible and buy into that hype of course you are going to be disappointed. I went into it expecting a mediocre game and came out loving it because it is pretty damn good

Oh barf, RE: Revelations 2 will be episodic: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/09/10/resident-evil-revelations-2-will-be-an-episodic-experience?abthid=54106ad6fdbd9aad0c000012

Looks like I'm waiting for the full retail release next fall. :headache:
Generally this would bug me, but it says the episodes will release weekly instead of month-long waits like Walking Dead. Also announcing a retail version already is nice of them to save those of us who can wait.

I think this is actually an interesting idea, we'll see how it plays out. Most interesting take away I get from the article is that the game will cost $24.99 double-crossed E's. That's only $32.30 in real money, meaning it's going to be a budget game to a certain extent.

Destiny players. Is it just another Borderlands? Just curious. I wont play it either way.
I like Borderlands better than Destiny so far. The fact the missions start and end independent of one-another is very jarring to me. Why couldn't it have just been a big open world with fast travel?

I predict the PS3/360 retail versions will be $39.99 while PS4/XB1 copies will be $49.99. I hope they're all $39.99, but we'll see if Capcom is the money-grubbing type.

yeah, I was annoyed when I read it, but the pricing structure isn't that bad. according to the capcom blog it's $6 / weekly episode or $25 for the season. you can wait and get the disc for $40 with some additional content (they get an internet high five from me if the 'additional content' is the 'platinum trophy'). I would actually consider paying $25 digital for a 4 week long resident evil game (it'd probably take me a week to finish each episode anyways).

I played a hunter during the beta. I always gravitate more toward sniper/stealth characters.

This is only feedback on the beta (and what I've watched of people streaming), but Destiny is more taking Halo's gunplay and putting it in a Borderlands style open world.

In terms of just pure shooting, Destiny feels amazing and flows a lot better than Borderlands ever has for me. Everything is incredibly snappy, melee kills are soooo satisfying, and your overall movement speed is at just the right level between slow enough to be controllable but fast enough to be maneuverable. It just all feels incredible and is some of the most enjoyable gunplay I've found in a game.

That said just about everything else is lacking any real sort of identity. The story is completely devoid of substance (maybe this improves after the first few hours, but what I've played and seen has been typical sci-fi fluff) delivered by a shockingly bored sounding Peter Dinklage. The world looks nice, but there's nothing defining about it the way areas of Borderlands are so iconic. Every mission I played was a dull "run to point A and hold square until a set piece triggers and enemies start spanning", which got pretty repetitive after the first few times. I also didn't find many of the enemies that enjoyable to fight, though their AI is definitely miles ahead of Borderlands so they at least react more realistically than just running straight toward you like meat for the grinder. The way you're booted from the planet after every mission is also really jarring, and means you'll be spending way too much time watching load screens when you're often jumping right back to the same planet (so why have you leave in the first place?).

Overall my thoughts were largely that of being underwhelmed. It's by no means a terrible game, and the foundation is entirely solid, but in a market already saturated with so many shooters it doesn't do enough to stand out to me. Hopefully by the time Destiny 2 rolls around (because that's obviously a given) Bungie will have figured out a better way to put their excellent gunplay into a more compelling world, with a tighter narrative and better mission variety, since I would really like to play a game that feels as good as Destiny does that doesn't make me want to take copious amount of muscle relaxers any time I'm not actively shooting something.
