The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

People always say they have to grind. I almost never do. There's only a handful of games where grinding is actually necessary. Off the top of my head, Terranigma comes to mind. There's a stupid mechanic where if you're not above a certain level, you do 1 dmg to the boss, instead of scaling like most games. That's just BS.
I had to grind in Dragon Fantasy a bit. Rainbow Moon as well, though in RM it was because I wandered into the wrong game area. Can't think of any others offhand.

I did grind in FF7 and FF8 by choice, but not the first time I played FF7. For FF8, I just really like doing tons of 9999s with Zell's limit break.

FF10 I couldn't, cause I was trying to beat it in one rental.

FF12 I didn't, cause it was too damn easy that I had to fight marks 20 levels higher just to have to input a single command.

It seem that whenever I played anything that was PS2 and older the grinding came when I was trying to level my characters to max level and/or get all of their magical abilities. I'll agree that FF12 seemed to be a bit on the easy side as I remember setting everyone's Gambits to auto and would set my controller down for some fights.

Anymore, most of my grinds are due to trying to platinum a game.

FFXIII was minimal on grinding.

Great game.
unless you wanted the plat like I did ugh

zaku knows whats up.

and beside hdn victory theres magical star sign which I'm playing right now was very grindy once I got to the wood planet. took like 10 levels to get through that damn jungle and beat the bombing boss. if the rest of the game is going to play like that with having a giant difficulty jump I'll quit it just like I did neptunia.

if you are going to make a game with grinding required make it like ffx or tales where the battles can be quickly won and there are ways to streamline it.

uh thats like the one game where you are NEVER supposed to grind i'm pretty sure due to enemy scaling or whatever. unless you are talking about card farming or something.
I for one can say I didn't grind in FF8. I just put it back into the case and then into the trash.

Recently bought ff8 on psn, good to know grinding isn't helpful. Feburary is a good month for games, can't wait for dbz xenoverse ps3 and Zelda majoras mask when they hit $30 or less. Really annoyed by dbz's season pass though, better have amazing stuff if they want to convince me to get it. Anyone else pre order the majoras mask 3ds/XL case from gamestop, it looks just like the 3ds case haha

I never finished FFVIII. I preordered it from Action Ace (became actionHQ and then went out of business) took a break from it and I got confused at where I was at in the story and stopped playing it. I still watch the intro on youtube. It gives me the chills still. It reminds me of my youth and somehow makes me feel like I am in love and getting my heart broken at the same time.

Is Hyperdimension Neptunia PP for Vita any good? $14.99 is a good price at GameStop but I don't want to buy it just to set it on a shelf. I'm actually trying to play through the games I buy this year.

Producing Perfection isn't a rhythm game so that would make sense.

Number of songs in it is fine based on how often you have the opportunity to use them.

OMG I did not realize that Bloodborne and FF Type 0 was came out a week apart. Looks like I need to start selling some stuff
Toukiden Kiwami and Estivial Versus also come out in pretty much the same week as Bloodborne

be still my aching wallet...

I don't do that to good games. Only bad games like Zombi U.
Thank you, I couldn't downvote Indignate but at least I can thumbs up this comment. I thought Lightning Returns and P4AU were the best last gen games of 2014, not including games released on next gen like FC:4 or DA:I

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward (3DS) is $19.99 at Playasia. Shipping kills the deal, so everyone please PM Amazon.

Something about Neptunia being perceived as 'kind of bad' but still fun gives it a nice feel, like a lot of other Idea Factory titles.

I also really enjoy a game that requires grinding. It's a nice break to just zone out, beat things up, and be awesome for a while.

It's also great on a handheld. Have a few minutes somewhere waiting for your takeout food order or for traffic to get better outside the office? Bust out that Vita and lay down the beatdown.

That's some of the most positive words I've ever heard about grinding. Makes it seem so epic and refreshing.

I'd be fine with the grinding if battles weren't as long as they are and required fighting the exact same enemies specifically over and over. Does the game even give you exp when you auto kill weak enemies? As that would at least be more efficient. Even better if it had a p3 like system where you could sick your party members on enemies and let them auto level

I don't remember which game it was that I played way back in the day, but I remember it was setup where mobs that were too weak to give you exp would run in the other direction. At least HN lets you one hit kill the weaker mobs, though it doesn't make the grind any less...grindy.

The battles are pretty quick. If you hold L you can skip the animations.

That's actually one of good things about Conception 2. You can run into really easy mobs on the map, and kill them without even entering combat.

And of course, Bravely Default also made grinding easy.

I always loved weapons with Death abilities in Final Fantasy games, cause that animation is usually faster than the dying animation.

Got to op to actually deal with anything. All I did in Conception was memorize the area where the enemies with high exp rewards spawned and just kept going there repeatedly.

Nice price for Dengeki Fighting Climax.
PS3: 39.99
PSVITA: 29.99
I wonder if there's any reason to get PS3 over vita. Aside from controls I guess.

Akiba's trip is $14.99 for ps3 at gamefly right now. Cheapest it's been.
Thanks. I've been waiting for Akiba's trip to drop. I wanted to get it new, but I'll consider this since last time I bought from gamefly, it was pretty good condition.

Uhh....I can't find my way around gamefly's site. I found the Akiba's trip but it just says start free trial.

I wanna get Muramasa for Vita. I was wondering if it's worth getting the LE vs the standard. Are the LE stuff compatible with the vita2000? Was hoping the standard will go to $20 again at some point.

Have you ever tried playing fighting games on the Vita? It's not too easy....I will be getting it for the PS3. Just a bit too hard to control for me...though with the PSTV it may be alright with the controller. I don't own that though.

I ended up playing Akiba's Trip mostly on my PS TV. I liked it on the Vita, but I enjoyed it more on the bigger screen. Some of the fights get pretty hectic especially at first before you upgrade your clothes. I say go with whatever suits you better, but it was more enjoyable for me on the big screen.

I was referring to Dengeki Fighting Climax on the vita. I've heard Akiba's Strip plays fine on the Vita. I just can't play fighting games on the Vita...Joysticks aren't precise enough for me.

Playing it through the PSTV isn't perfect either. I tried playing DOA on my PSTV and it definitely doesn't translate perfectly with the controller (I was using a DS4). I don't know how they programmed the controllers to work with the PSTV but there seemed to be some lag with the inputs and translated to the actions on the screen.

It's not worth it to get the LE unless you like the box. Also, the LE stuff was made specifically for the 1000.
