Is anyone biting on this Square Enix Easter Surprise Bundle? It's about $5.94 and includes 5 games. But what are the chances any of them will be Final Fantasy and not Hitman/Tomb Raider/Supreme Commander/Humble Squeenix repeats?
Pretty low. Here's the games that were in the last surprise bundles (this is their 3rd ever):

Square Enix Surprise Box 2014 - £4.99

• Thief – The Master Thief Edition
• The Last Remnant
• Murdered: Soul Suspect
• Lara Croft: Guardian of Light
• Deus Ex – The Fall
• Nosgoth Founders – Warlord Pack

Surprise Box 2013 - £4.99

• Tomb Raider
• Just Cause 2
• Hitman: Blood Money
• Dungeon Siege 3

Hitman Absolution or Hitman Collection is most likely one of the games because of the system requirements. Because those are the highest reqs, it also rules out a bunch of other games (Thief, Murdered, FFXIV for example).

They're not bad values (especially the second one), the only problem is that most of us will have all the games included.

I thought about grabbing one earlier but since I own the entire EIDOS catalogue (DLC included) except for the Temple of Osiris DLC, it's probably not worth it since most of these are EIDOS games (with 1 or 2 from the Squeenix-side).

Would be glad to be wrong though and see some older stuff included or a Final Fantasy title (3 or 4, no way in hell any of the 13s would be bundled).

No. We need more barnacle sims.
Or do we need more water sims?

How long is a piece of string?

I enjoyed HL1 incredibly back in the day when it first came out (17 years ago). I thought it's AI scripting, plot, etc. all gave a really cool, immersive experience. Without spoiling it, the endgame levels kinda sucked. How well does it stand the test of time? Dunno, I think it's been given an update (Half Life Source?) so maybe that gave it a bit more life.
I thought HL1, when I played it a few years back, was pretty fun despite it's age. Til I got towards the end game and got lost and kind of forgot about it. Still it was surprisingly enjoyable. To the (later in the thread) talk of it holding up, I thought it holds up pretty well, it isn't like Deus Ex (which I couldn't stomach after a couple hours, can see how it was a good game in it's day, but that day is long past).

HL2 I struggled to really get into though, I can't even pinpoint why I did just didn't click with me at the time. Thought about trying it again at some point but ehh.

To avoid double posting, the Sega sale, so far, seems amazing only because it brought out this gem:

EHM is coming back!! WOOOOOO, loved EHM despite being 8 some years old now? It looks like the new EHM is going to be cheaper then the old one was as well so hooray for that too. Especially now that Sega decided the FM series should only see terrible 33% off discounts until the new version is out, because Sega is stupid.

The weird/downside, besides the sale itself:

You know, as much as I love FM and have thousands of hours into the different versions combined, I've never thought, "wow, I'd love to watch a documentary on how they make the game and why it's popular!" Oh and somehow they thought people would pay $11 to watch this? Really?! Why would someone pay $11 to stream a documentary about Football Manager that is 72 minutes long? O_O

That's less than 16 cents a minute! Remember when you had to pay more than that for phone calls? What a deal!

I got a couple of Heroes of the Storm beta keys if any regulars want them it.  And I mean regular posters not regular beggars.

Pricing on Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin (DX11 version):

$49.99, if you don't own the DX9 version

$29.99, if you own the DX9 version, but not the DLC

$19.99, if you own the DX9 version with all the DLC

Regional pricing isn't known yet.

These kind of prices give me plenty of time to go back to work on Dark Souls 1, since I never finished that.

And last night - well, that didn't go so well....

If I were Valve, I wouldn't develop HL3 either.  They pretty much have a license to print money via Steam at this point.  Keeping HL3 in their back pocket in case of rough financial times is pretty smart.

So $20 for a DX11 upgrade? :puke:

Wasn't the launch price of the base game on its own, $60?

Ten years from now no one will care about HL3.

What has Valve really done (not Steam, Valve) in terms of gaming for the single player after half life 2?  Left for Dead went to multi player.  Alien swarm (somewhat under rateed for its time) , TF , CS GO and DOTA 2 were all developed for multi player.

Valve gave up on the single player experience a long time ago.

Eh, it's a little more than just DX11 - a little - but still, fuck this whole thing.

Portal 2, 2011? I agree though, they don't seem interested any more.

Portal and Portal 2 basically. Portal 2 had co-op but at least it wasn't the focus.

portal 2. that's it though.

Valve can do whatever they hell they want now. It's basically a big playpen for nerds with no structure thanks to uncle gabe one day shootin at some food and along from the ground came a bubblin crude aka the world's biggest PC game store.

I'll say this, with how long Valve takes to make games, they wouldn't be able to pull HL3 out as a savior during hard times.  And if they completed it and did not release it no one would want an old game on an outdated engine.

ok I concede Portal 2.  yes. Portal 2.  thank you for the reminder.  I still think Valve had thrown single player aside for more money with multi player.

Even the muliplayer stuff are side projects at this point. They're a store that occasionally releases a game once in a blue moon if they can get their shit together and feel like it.

Ok. Triad Wars. It is really fun!. I can't see it as a MMO... because it is asynchronous, so, you won't see other players. I've only played Through tutorial and a bit more, but you can see it is a more casual game. You manage your "turf" (headquarter and business), hire gang members, create some income buildings, make some raids and upgrade. The gameplay is the same as Sleeping Dogs (with some nice extras of course), so I'm fine because I loved it.

I will continue playing it later on... but as I said, I'm liking it so far, but with some coop option it will be a blast

I thought the original DS2 was getting all the updates Scholar was aside from the improved graphics stuff. Are the new enemy placements still Scholar-exclusive or something?
To be honest I am not entirely sure because they've been typically awful about explaining everything, but the multiplayer is being changed (more players, better matchmaking) at the very least. Again I don't want to come off as defending this because I do think it's BS.

Speaking of Souls (sorta?) I've been playing Bloodborne, and...woof. That framerate. It's probably even more "cinematic" than Assassin's Creed Unity.

I don't see why they need to have the different Direct Xs as different versions. That makes no damned sense. Do the Japanese think this is consoles and Dx9 is last gen and Dx11 is next gen?

Doesn't the PS3/360 get that upgrade for free as well?

No, but it doesn't seem like the upgrade is worth $20.

Portal was released after Half Life 2 as well. Those are two pretty significant predominantly singleplayer games.

If you really want to nitpick Valve, you'd say that Valve has more or less purchased their last several games and then co-developed them. Portal comes from the Narbacular Drop team (now a part of Valve), Left 4 Dead from Turtle Rock Studios, Team Fortress 2 mod team employed by Valve, and DOTA 2 (hired by Valve). To their credit, they've done very, very well with the games they've chosen and shepherded into the marketplace.

I do wish they'd move at faster than a snails pace though. They are capable of releasing high quality games whenever the mood strikes.

All this talk about DS2 has made me want to get the DLC. I thought the purpose of this thread was mock the shitty deals people offer, not make me want to buy things!
