That "Name in Game" thing is genius. I've never played the game, God only knows if I ever will, I'm sure there's 15,000 named dudes and the chance of me ever seeing mine is 0.5% and yet I still think "Hey cool, I could have a named guy for four bucks!" It's dumb as hell but part of my brain still wants to do it.

I mean, I've already named two living breathing children but who the hell cares about that? VIDEO GAME PRISONERS are where it's at!
so you didn't name your children like celebrities does, with names like Apple, orange and etc...

It was just always like that. At least in North America they had the CE stuff separated out into its own package and then you just buy whatever platform you want the game on, console disc, PC Digital or whatever and then get your swag junk separate.

I actually kind of like the idea. A few times I've wanted to uber Fakeybro and go whole hog and get some crazy collector's edition (don't judge!) but then it sucks because you're waiting for some damned box to get to you that has your game key in it and meanwhile your friends are posting feed pics like 'wish you were here'.

Anyway this way they only need to make one set of physical junk and then people can just buy the game however and where ever they want.
I really like the idea of CE Stuff sold separate, as well.

How many times do I already own the game, then the CE Edition gets cheap and I want it for the swag - but it has the game I already own? Or, how many times have we seen Console Versions get a CE, yet PC version just gets a Regular Edition? Or, how many times does Steam have a Regular Edition and then you can't later buy an Upgrade to get the CE Extras (Thief 2014, anyone)? This separate box solves those issues entirely.

Though, I think it should be labeled better -> i.e. Lara Croft AtToO: Extras Only Box, or Lara Croft AtToO: Swag Only Box, or something of the sort. When people see "Gold Edition", they think of the game + some kind of extra content.

I have no desire to own video game toys but the idea seems strangely consumer friendly to me. Better than the whole "I had to buy the XBox One version for the keychain and the PS3 version for the snow globe and the PC version for the bumper sticker and the PS4 Special Edition version from Japan for the body pillow..." thing some of these collectors do.

most of those companies are getting cheap now, you are lucky if you get more than a hardcover strategy guide and/or statue.

Oh, yeah - I forgot all about how certain platforms get exclusive crap CE crap! Great point.

If separate swag-only boxes can keep this exclusive crap away, I'm all for this. Let those interested in the swag by it separately, no matter what platform they buy the game for + where they buy the game.

So, uh, Drabes how much did you pay again way back when to get your name in the game, which still isn't finished by the way.

I don't remember it was back when I was buying tf2 keys from tremor and trading with commies.

Take a pic using the map as a bib with the Lara chibi eating candle lit dinner with you.

Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide are super tempting right now at $5 a piece on HumbleBundle.com. But Wild Hunt comes out tomorrow and I probably won't ever play Dead Island again after that releases.

THat's actually not a great deal at all. Franchise pack (included both games/dlc) was on sale on steam not too long ago for about 8 bucks or so.

it is basically a poor man's incomplete version dying light
Yea and I never finished Dying Light either so maybe I should just play that. I just kind of prefer Dead Islands setting and wackiness a little bit more.

@pasports31 Yea, it's actually the 'Game of the Year' editions of both games so it would only be $2 more than that.

fuck it though, Witcher comes out tomorrow and I have laundry to do.

The franchise pack was $6 from GamersGate last week, so yeah, Humble's deal isn't that great. It's guaranteed to go on sale for that price or better again.

I also wouldn't be surprised, if you were to play the long game, of seeing some Humble Dead Island Bundle or some crap. PWYW for Escape Dead Island, Dead Island 1, and something to do w/Dead Island Epidemic, and BTA for Dead Island Riptide and Dead Island 2 or something.

I still can't believe such an average franchise with such lukewarm reception has spawned so many games in such a short period of time.

hey guys,
So I forced myself to play through the Witcher 1 for 2 hours now to catch up on the story but the experience was intolerable... SO FAR (the k/m on combat is clumsy, the inventory just blows and the gameplay is run of the mill). Do you think I can just read the story recap online and skip straight to the Witcher 2 w/o missing on anything?

Thanks

P.S. the intro was still one of the BEST cinematic intro I've seen
...so your saying the combat sucks? ;)

It's the most addictive and fun average game I've played in recent years.

No ycs.
Disagree...I've only played part of the first one, and I thought it started out great, but it dragged on too long. I haven't played it in a few years but I remember getting bored awhile through and abandoning it. I've been meaning to try it again with a different class but eh.

I remember how excited I was to pick up Prison Architect back in September in some Humble Bundle.  I still haven't played the thing.

I'd be a bit ticked off right now if I were one of those people who put so much money into their game and they are practically giving it away now without even being out of alpha.  (for instance, that dirt cheap name in game thing on Steam is 50 bucks on their website)

I liked what I played, but I ran into a stupid bug with power connections that there was no workaround for so I gave up on it.

I have the name in game edition, too. Hm... I should probably figure out a horrible backstory for my named prisoner.

well, good thing u didn't back Planetary Annihilation then.

At least PA (Prison Architect) is a decent title

so I said everything seems so ... off, considering all the praises it got

I am in my 3rd hour now and it gets better (not sure b/c I got used to it "off-ness" or it actually gets better). :whistle2:k What a strange sensation when I play this game.
nerds over hyping a game with lots of nudity, sex and potty mouths? nah that could never happen!/s

not clowning, the story/world is what looks interesting to me. that combat though...

Sometimes I envy the console deals. Right now the Mass Effect Trilogy is $5 on PSN.

I paid twice that for the PC versions and thought it was a great deal.

Yeah, I was really hoping after they announced they were finally doing away with Bioware points that a true, complete, collection with all DLC would finally become available.. but no luck yet.

Maybe after they release the next in the series they'll try capitalize on the hype from it to finally release a complete set of the first trilogy.

It's EA u are talking about here. If they didn't release ME1 complete when ME2 come out, if they didn't release ME2 complete when ME3 come out.. what hope is there to expect there'd be ME complete triology when ME4 come out?

The point of selling ME trilogy WITHOUT DLC (or incomplete) is to gouge on DLC.

Yeah, but at a certain point they'll realize they aren't making money on the DLC anymore.   When that happens, it'll occur to them that they can capitalize on everyone re-buying the game as a complete edition in order to get all the DLC they refused to buy individually.

Agreed. Little point in buying DI or DI:R now. Wait until Dying Light is $10 or less. The games are functionally the same with Dying Light having more graphical and gameplay polish (although still fairly tedious after awhile).

Dying Light is fun. I like running around the rooftops yelling "parkour!" and throwing molotovs at my friends while they fight zombies.

Had that before, gotten a bit better but still. They did a bug bash again last month, no idea if they got that one fixed (also hoping they get around to letting you place lights, instead of having zillions of them in a building).
